My wonderful wife passed away very unexpectedly a few months ago without either of us having a chance to say good-bye. It ripped my heart out to lose her. My therapist suggested that I write a letter to her, telling her what I would have said if we did have a chance to say good-bye. I did, and it helped from that perspective. Then recently "Babe" came on the radio and it hit me between the eyes. This song, in so many ways, seemed to me to be her way of saying good-bye to me. Now I play it several times a week and let the tears flow down my cheeks. Bye, babe.
I really love the song. From its lyrics up to the melody, it really touched my heart everytime I hear this. Yes, it relates to someone leaving a loved one..
A man I went to high school with recently passed away. He had posted on Facebook that he remembered our high school dances and how we always danced to this song and he would always hold it close to his heart ♥️. Rest in peace Michael. I pray you are at peace and flying high .
I dedicate this song to my beautiful and gorgeous mom that passed away. We danced to this song every weekend. Great memories. I miss and love you momma.
This song meant the most to me twice in my life. The first time, was about 15 years (and 3 children) after we eloped to get married, my wife wanted to separate because she missed her 20’s as a single girl. We never really parted and it lasted about 3 months. She came back to me and all was forgiven. We stayed married and in love 53 years. Soon after that, in February 2019, she died from cancer. And that was the second time this song had a significant meaning to me. “I miss you, Babe.”
I lost my wife of 29.5 years Aug 2022.. She was my breath of fresh air.. she left me, 3 kids and 2 grandkids behind... I miss her everyday.. I would give my life to be able to sing this to her... 😢
And its sad that over 68% of the modern feminist Gen of women will never know love like that.! Being that they are so strong and independent. i'm sure the nursing homes well take good care of them.??
We played this song at dad's funeral yesterday, around the beginning of the service. It was emotionally heavy for us, because the whole family likes Styx. I'm glad my parents got to go see Styx in concert a few years ago.
I lost my husband over 20 yrs ago n this song was 'our' 4:07 song! Whenever I'm down i listen to it for strength because i know he's watching over me n that gives me the strength I need to go on! I miss him him every day!
My favorite song by Styx.. it’s My high school sweet hearts song when he was leaving for the Marines.. 40+ years later I still think of him every time I hear this song!!!💕
My husband and I have been married almost 45 years and has always been our song. But he passed away may 1st 2024. I play song to him everyday when I’m at the cemetery. I miss so much don’t no how I can go on with out him. I also had this song at his funeral showing. Closing song was stairway to heaven. His death was unexpected

Contemporaneously this song played on the school bus home in a quotidian fashion yet it lingers on decades later for the ear that heard and appreciated it at the time and beyond
Wow, I like what I'm seeing here. I mean, I love this song and This is music to my ears. Yeah, I was born in 2000, but I love the 80s. Hell yeah! That was a really great decade and Those years were wonderful times because There was good music and There were good movies, but Those years are over. However, Good music will never go out of style and I like that. Thank you very much for this video, I think that old is beautiful. 👍🙂🤘
Hi Maggie's Ace. Thanks so much for your comments. You truly do understand the loss and the love. There never will be a replacement for my "Babe," but I am trying to live my life with the added joy that she brought to it. She taught me so much!
Dennis DeYoung initially penned “Babe” (1979) as a birthday gift for his wife. He didn’t envision it as material for Styx - just something personal - but when their record company heard it, they pegged it as a knockout and insisted it be on the “Cornerstone” LP (1979). DeYoung had taped this song as a demo with bass guitarist Chuck Panozzo and drummer John Panozzo. But it sounded so good that the demo was what they used on the album, with just a Tommy Shaw guitar solo added on. All the vocals were by DeYoung, who recorded himself to create the harmonies. “Babe” was Styx’s only #1 hit in the US, and by far their highest charting track in the UK. Unfortunately, Styx had to move on without Dennis DeYoung in 1999. Consequently, most of DeYoung’s creations were immediately jettisoned from the group’s setlists. And unsurprisingly, “Babe” ended up being a staple of the solo artist’s concerts❕ ONE MUST-LISTEN‼️ 💛🎵💙
