  • Eyewitnesses and hospital sources have told the BBC that at least a dozen worshippers have been killed in a crowd crush at the Kumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj, India.
The incident took place between 1am and 2am local time (19:30 and 20:30GMT) when it is believed some pilgrims tried to jump over police barricades to reach Sangam Nose, the point where India's most sacred river Ganges meets Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
Devotees believe that bathing in the river will cleanse their sins and help attain salvation.
Wednesday was billed as the most important day for bathing during the festival, and officials expected up to 100 million people would attend.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has in a post on X (formerly Twitter) offered his condolences to devotees who have lost family members.

Correct your statement about Mecca. Muslims died in Mecca not because of crowd crush but because of heat wave. In Saudi Arabia, especially Mecca, the temperature touched 50C last year when people died of heat wave. Mecca has strict guidelines for pilgrims, they allow fixed number of people for pilgrims. Each year they give quota to each country for performing Hajj, they don't allow everyone from anywhere to come and perform Hajj or Umra.
All in all such religious festivals need strict management to allow only a limited number of people to save from such incidents.

@Just..Junior ridiculing the logic. Can't blame why the management is not getting better, because they keep pointing fingers at others, especially at their religious ceremonies.
India needs to manage not for others but for their own people. Giving excuses from the government's part won't make it better, instead it will give them immunity as not to work for people.

Superstitious uneducated and ignorant population of Endia 🇮🇳 is a shame for humanity.
90% Indians have average annual income of just USD$ 890
And There is this Mahakumbh thing going on, which is basically a gathering of more than 400 million indian animals and they are coming to that place to just take dip in the Ganges River.
They have no clue that the river they're bathing in, is scientifically proven to be dirtiest river in the world. 😂
Why is you so defensive for your feral culture. Look how those naked junkies who are extremely unproductive come out from their caves.
Worshipping (basically bribing gods with money) Thousand gods but not treating fellow countrymen equally, Believing reincarnations but not contributing to make this life better for oneself and for others is beyond stupidity. Mental lethargy, Ignorance is not called a Civilization. Civilization is built through hardwork and dedication, wisdom, care for fellow countrymen, not socially isolating yourself (Sadhu/Naga) from the society.
And don't care about those developed wealthy nations, they care a lot about their own people that's why they top in every aspect of rankings, such as World freedom index, happyness index, they have low income inequality and so on.
The best will be for indians to leave This Fanatic, Feral culture called Hinduism, Completely Adopt Western Cultural Values and do some real work.

Citizens of developed countries give very little glory to the dignity of India when they see Indian people holding such religious fairs. They are laughing at this. They strive for the progress of the country by avoiding religions as much as possible. Many bigoted people here keep repeating this.

That's far from tragic. That shows the faith that millions of people have in wanting to attain liberation or moksha. Mahakumbh happens once every 144 years after 12 cycles of 12 years and during this period the planetary alignment is such that it promotes a natural surge of energy in the human system in this location in Prayagraj. There is a whole science behind it.

CONSERVATIVE estimates put the number in India at 16 MILLION children forced into prostitution!
That's more than the TOTAL population of countries like Czech Republic, Sweden, Portugal, Greece, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand, etc...........
Basically the types of countries that Indians would sell their own mother, sister or daughter into prostitution to try to enter & live in!
