How did it go?
@ethan murdoch I want to know as well.
Yah how did it go bro ?

If we had this much evidence for anything else in ancient history it would be called fact and be in every history book. But because it’s the bible they put it through the hardest and most hypothetical situation and scenarios. But every time it prevails. May God bless those who are blinded by their own mind
Not really this is just trying to make few things they got right seam like there are no things they got wrong. Also they are trying to make it seem that Acts count as evidence for Jesus and that is just wrong.
Filip Cordas he is just talking about it’s reliability the resurrection series is about evidence for Jesus
@@red_robin1122 Well yes that is my point. You can establish reliability of the four gospels by saying acts are accurate. They where written at different times by different people.
Filip Cordas luke wrote act but we cool
@MegaE5150 Please don't use Carrier as an authority it's just makes you look silly. He is a popular author and has no work published, his methods are bad, doesn't know what he is taking about, and his PHD is in history of science not in fields he likes to think he is an expert in.
I don’t normally comment on videos but this one has compelled me too. Thank you for putting this together. I’ve really been struggling with the historical aspects of Christianity and whether or not the Bible is reliable. This video has both inspired me and driven me to keep on studying the data and to keep on seeking the truth. Thank you.
Keep seeking the truth brother, I pray it leads you to Christ!
Don't forget that Matthew was a tax collector and so him getting the tax amount and exchange rate correct makes it even more likely he was the actual author
You must have not watched the video
I was not expecting this much external evidence! It doesn’t matter if Christianity will always “feel right” to me anymore, it’s basically truth for me at this point.
I love the fact that you research not only pros that support Jesus' existence but you also research many cons that defy Jesus' existence and then you counter it efficiently.
Denying Christ Is not based on intellectual reasons.
Puseletso Mampuru
Sure is...lying about supposed evidence to support jesus existance is wrong, and accepting jesus based simply on what's written in the bible, which is not proof, is self deception...and to pretend like your own self- deception concerning jesus is fact and presenting to others as if it were fact is lying!!
Jerome Elster If it was before I would take what you're saying in consideration. But now I know Christ's deity to be true because there is also some external evidence.I have been changed from my wicked ways by the Gospel.I have seen hardcore serial killers ,rapists and even apologetics of other faiths completely transformed. What is it that turns turns a suicide bomber to practice the faith of the very people he hates and was sent to bomb up.I try and try everyday to understand things from an atheist perspective but the evidence for God is overwhelming.Nothing makes sense if He doesn't exist.
+Jerome Elster Thousands of Muslims See Christ and testify and die for their testimony. Why are you calling them liars? Who are you a liar to call others such?
Jerome Elster THANK you!!
This RUclipsr does the best work I have seen on Christian apologetics! And I have seen nearly all of it. Keep it coming.
Mark Birchall
These aren't simply apologetics...they are LIES!!!
Jerome Elster Starting with...?
Jerome Elster the truth will set you free. accept jesus christ as your lord and saviour
Jerome Elster show your proof.
Varun David the burden of proof falls on the person making the positive claim that would be you. if you want to assert leprechauns or Jesus exist it's you that needs to produce the evidence. there is nothing, but allegorical myths that even mention Bible Jesus, from the first century. we don't have a clue who wrote the Gospels. (Christians like pretend to know that the know but have no supporting evidence).
Josephus is passage that he mentioned from 1st century was a forgery probably by eusebius several hundred years later. and this can be conclusively demonstrated if you don't just buy into the lies this man is feeding you. apologetics is only a different word for propaganda
Great work, now you just need a series on the Old Testament. ;D
Sparky if the NT is correct, Jesus is God. If God confirms the OT, I trust Him. Haha
UnratedAwesomeness Still would be awesome!
If the Bible is true:
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God..... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us
That would be a long series
He should match the Septuagint and the dead sea scrolls Bible.

Very well done, IP. You're motion graphics are getting increasingly better.
This video series completely flew under my radar. I just now discovered it and am loving it.
This is so inspiring,so well-researched; it's a great load of facts and evidence packed in so short a video! Thank you.
Wow, that sure was a lot of accurate stuff! You should consider making a series disputing or refuting every thing that Wikipedia editors keep claiming the Bible has "wrong". It's usually minor, and I know Wikipedia is not exactly a valued source, but it is commonly used enough that I think it would be great to just sort of debunk it all.
funny how much of it's been debunked!

Thanks😊.
I've already checked most of what you're talking about. I've been checking all this for 5 good months, watching debates over debates, conferences and seminaries, learning history and reading articles and books, it really didn't debunk my belief... I've taken time to analyze what both sides say and what their reasons are... honestly, they're just a bunch of arguments that sometimes actually make sense, but too weak to say they debunked anything. Anybody who is really honest and who takes time to analyze things very deeply will know there are stronger arguments by the side of christianity.
I suggest you do the same you've suggested me to do, with an unbiased perspective.
And apart from that, you can always ask Jesus to reveal himself to you if he's real...

@@loisirsentertainment5919 Ok well I used to be a Christian. Wanted to stay a Christian. After several YEARS i began to realize it was false. There are WAY more then two sides to these debates. if the new testeament is so reliable why some skeptics still doubt of the miraculous events?
why would the followers worry so much about detailing places, names and cultural practices just for a lie?
Can't take the Skeptics again seriously at this point.
Simple, everyone would rather believe what they want to believe. The simplest evidence is flat earthers, do not think that no human on earth is immune from the deceptions of pride.
Once you see evidence like this, supposed literary parallels to mythical accounts just doesn’t cut it anymore.

I showed a friend this video and his pride still manages to make him believe that he deserves direct proof of the things in the Bible, it’s not enough for some people to be shown that it’s a reliable account and that these were real people who saw real things, incredible but real. Really interesting. It's nice to know how the supporting evidence is presented, and to get a better picture of what the supporting evidence is.
This video seems a little flawed due to bias. Using the same logic, one could conclude The Da Vinci code is a factual account, or that Spiderman really exists.
+Daryl Soar - You only have two options Daryl. Either produce a science experiment that exactly duplicates the universe as we see it or admit defeat. There is no third option. You and your nonexistent evidences, nutty theories absent empirical proofs, spreading the lie of man arising from inert dirt, from a 10 to the 47th power chance of a Goldilocks abiogenesis Fairy Tale. You're laughable Daryl. Now either produce the experiment or run along.
If a 15 billion year experiment is what it would take to convince you then that's a burden of proof I cannot meet.
Tell me, has calling someone laughable ever won someone over to your position before?
I'm convinced by science. It has evidence and tells a plausible story that weaves together all the pieces. Every time errors are discovered, science is corrected. Every day, science takes a step closer to accurately representing reality.
Can you provide anything beyond personal testimony and philosophical proofs? You've told me to go and read a website, but even that fails to meet the standards of science.
It really shouldn't be hard to find a few god bullets to blast some holes in science. Take a shot.
+Daryl Soar - Thanks for finally admitting science cannot meet its own burden of proof. Theists are convinced by science. So what is your point. Theists know science corrects itself. Theists also know that there has NOT been one single thing science has NOT had to correct itself on. Science is flawed Daryl. But more importantly science is restricted to, and limited by, the miniscule portion of space it lives in. Sciences picture of reality will never grow beyond that point because the factual reality of science imprisons the knowledge of science to its 7 billion mile prison cell.
You "Every time errors are discovered, science is corrected. Every day, science takes a step closer to accurately representing reality."
Me Right! That is exactly what theists believe. Your problem is you believe scientism is science. When it isn't.
You "Can you provide anything beyond personal testimony and philosophical proofs?"
Me Personal testimony and philosophical theories is all *YOU* have Daryl. Just as you admitted. That is what I have been saying all along and *THAT* is the *PROOF* I am right!
Peace!
What you're describing is a Mexican standoff. To convince me, all you need do is bring out your god. And all you have is a pair of closed eyes and an 1800 year old book to convince me. While i have all the world's military and technology. I don't fancy your chances much.

Narration is excelent. The facts! Without reliability there is no reason to trust the New Testament as eing the revelation of God and completion of the Bible. The only suggestion I make is that when the Lord Jesus is referenced, i would not use any picture of actors that portray Him. Not even artwork or anythig such. +itsatz yeah, when YOU write a book of yours, dedicate a hundred or a thousand pages to your enemies or people you dislike. As IP explained clearly enough, those 3 historians were NOT Christians. They were in fact hostile to the Christian beliefs or just apathetic. BUT EVEN SO they DID mention Christ as a true historical figure, who not only performed miracles but also was believed from a gazillion people to be the Messiah. So even though it was an uncomfortable truth for them they couldn't miss document it as not only was this the most top historic events of their time, but also a massively acknowledged as a fact. Jesus was the enemy of both Judaism and Pagan religions around the Roman Empire, yet they could not pass His story on like it never happened, nor would they be willing to dedicate their life works on a Savior that demolished their authority and religious domination.

I think one other thing this video forgets to mention, is that these evidences would also be evidence to use for the early dating of the gospels, since they would have gotten so much right about the time and places ;) just thought I’d help out 😬
"evidence to use for the early dating of the gospels" The Greek translators of the original Aramaic of the NT made a more 'politically-correct' rendition of NT references to non-Jews, and replaced a particular place's antiquated name with its more-current name:
Norton, William. 1889. _A Translation, in English Daily Used, of the Peshito-Syriac Text, and of the Received Greek Text, of Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, and 1 John, With an Introduction on the Peshito-Syriac Text, and the Revised Greek Text of 1881_ (London: W. K. Bloom), ~140pp. What's below is from a Google books copy; the book is also at
archive.org/details/translationineng00nort
In the Introduction, pages l - li:
In the names of places, the Peshito shows the same independence of the Greek. . . . . in Acts xxi. 7, the Gk. has, Ptolemais; the Syriac has, Acu.
Mr. Jer. Jones, in his work on the Canon, 1798, contends that the use of the name Acu, for Ptolemais, is a decisive proof that the Peshito must have been made not far in time from A.D. 70, when Jerusalem was destroyed. (vol. i. p. 103. ) He says that the most ancient name of this place among the Israelites was Aco, or Acco, Judges i. 31; that this name was afterwards changed to Ptolemais; that some say it had its new name from Ptolemy Philadelphus, about 250 B. C. He says it is certain that the old name Aco, was antiquated and out of use in the time of the Romans, and that the use of the old name Acu, in the Peshito, can be accounted for in no other way, but by supposing that the persons for whom the version was made were more acquainted with it, than with the new name Ptolemais; that upon any other supposition it would have been absurd for him to have used Acu. He says, that until the destruction of Jerusalem, one may suppose that the Jews may have retained the old name Aco still, out of fondness for its antiquity; but, he says,
"how they, or any other part of Syria, could, after the Roman conquest, call it by a name different from the Romans, seems to me impossible to conceive. . . To suppose, therefore, that this translation, in which we meet with this old name, instead of the new one, was made at any great distance of time after the destruction of Jerusalem, is to suppose the translator to have substituted an antiquated name known to but few, for a name well known to all" (pp. 104, 105. )
Mr. Jones says that a similar proof that the Peshito cannot have been made much after A.D. 70, is found in the fact that the Peshito often calls the Gentiles, as the Jews were accustomed to do, _profane persons_, where the Greek calls them _the nations_, that is, the Gentiles. The Peshito calls them profane, in Matt. vi. 7; x. 5; xviii.17; Mark vii. 26; John vii. 35; Acts xviii.4, 17; 1 Cor. v. 1; x. 20, 27; xii. 2; 1 Pet. iv.3. The expression is used, therefore, throughout the Peshito. Mr. Jones says, that it shows that the writer was a Jew, for no other person would have called all the world profane; and that after the destruction of the temple, all Hebrew Christians must have seen that other nations were not to be reckoned unclean and profane in the Jewish sense, and that therefore this version must have been made either before, or soon after, A.D. 70. (On Canon, Vol. i., pp. 106-110.)

here is a book "Israel is the Messiah". The book “Israel is the Messiah” is a bold attempt to reconcile OT and NT in a way nobody had ever done. This book reveals that the Christian religion is the culmination of wrong interpretation of the words and deeds of Jesus and Old Testament. This book says Jesus didn’t claim he is messiah, son of God or God and Jesus didn’t ask Jews to worship him as God. All those things are Christian version.
This book says, Jesus came not to save Jews or the world but to warn the Jews about the impending disaster awaiting to fall upon the Jews as predicted by all other prophets. By saying “everything the prophets have written about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will flog Him and kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.” Jesus said to the Jews as foretold by all other prophets Israel is going to be destroyed and Jews are going to be scattered among gentiles.
This book says, Jesus foretold the Jews what will happen to them while they will be among the gentiles. “People will insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. You will be hated by everyone because of me,Mt.5:11,10:22. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me John 16:2-3. When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next. Truly I tell you, you will not reach all the towns before the Son of Man comes. Mt.10:23 By this Jesus meant because of persecution Jews will flee from cities to cities before the coming of Israel, before the restoration or resurrection of Israel. By saying “on the third day son of man will rise again” Jesus meant the dead Israel will be resurrected or will be restored on the Promised Land. Thus everything Jesus said about the son of man was said about Israel. You may not be able to believe all these things, please read the book “Israel is the messiah” and say is it not what happened to Israel and Jews after the death of Jesus. And realize that OT and NT predicted the destruction

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A+ on your knowledge of History!
Great Series Brother
Your argument that:1) if the gospel authors were eyewitnesses they would get things right about the region and society; 2) the gospel authors got things right about the region and society; 3) therefore the gospel authors were eyewitnesses is an invalid form of argument. If it were valid, then the following would also be valid: 1) all dogs have four legs; 2) my cat has four legs; 3) therefore my cat is a dog. Symbolically, P implies Q, Q, therefore P, does not work.
Let me also point out that if only eyewitnesses could have gotten things right, then only eyewitnesses could know that they got things right. Presumably, those today claiming that the gospels are so right are not claiming to have been eyewitnesses.
I didn't make that argument, so your comment is a straw man. The argument I am making is probabilistic
@@InspiringPhilosophy It sure sounds as though that is the argument you are making.
Is this your argument: 1) If the gospel authors were eyewitneses they would get things right about the region and society; 2) the gospel authors got things right about the region and society; 3) thefore, the gospel writers were probably eyewitnesses? If so, it still doesn't work. You would still need to prove the probability. Given that there were tens of thousands of potential writers (educated Greek speakers in the region), and at most a few hundred (and that is being generous) eyewitnesses, most or all of whom were illiterate Aramaic speakers, well, ... the numbers speak for themselves.
That is appealing to quantity and ignoring quality. The evidence stacks up in favor of eyewitnesses and ignoring that is ignoring the actual evidence.
@@InspiringPhilosophy You said your argument was based on probability. Probabilities are numbers. You can't say that X is more probable than Y if you can't calculate numbers.
Yes, because there is a lot of data to suggest eye witness accounts. Just because most people were illiterate that doesn't address the actual evidence associated with the gospels.
Many will question the account of the Gospels, but we must question their motives. If the Gospels are true, then we must decide who we believe Jesus was, is, and ever shall be. Jesus ask this question of Peter and we are no different. Jesus is either God or not God, but He cannot be both.
well done, hard work! Thank you!!
Can anyone find a copy of all the volumes of Nathaniel Lardner’s “Credibility of the Gospel History”?
Fantastic video! Thanks!
The Holy Spirit teaches of Christ even without the new testament because it is a continuous story from the Torah, the wisdom literature, prophetic books, Ruth and Esther too. People think the christian faith is crippled without the new testament. The journey of the Israelites from bondage to the promised land in the hands of the God the Father is literally the foreshadowing of the redeemed believer journey of sanctification from bondage to sin to the promised New Creation effected by God the Spirit. Even the destruction of the pagan child-sacrificing cultures such as the cananites is the complete repentance of the believer's sin, literally uprooting the sinful inhabitants of the heart completely and totally with no remnant left behind. The foreshadowing is so on the nose literally Israel was the name of one man,Jacob. The individual walking with God in obedience and rebellion at times, requiring disciplinary action and repentance until the moment of death, which is the crossing from the border of the desert of sanctification into the promised land where you are glorified for eternity. The Holy Scripture testifies of the Father, The Christ and the Spirit without even reading a word of the Gospel. The Torah suffices. The transition from a communal relationship to individual relationship was what Christ took human form to accomplish. Now the believer is 'Israel' who is shedding his rebellious nature, like the generation that died in the desert, and the new obedient version of the individual who is the result of the sanctification process is equipped for eternal life in worshipping the Creator. This would have been impossible without Salvation through the second person of God, Jesus Christ, the Infinite one who satisfied infinite wrath with infinite sacrifice for a secure relationship with the Creator. That is always the point to know and be known by the Holy One.
I think it's funny how Luke gets all these various titles and right. Or maybe it is just that the idea of a later forgery seems funny in the light of that? Anyway, that was great, thank you very much, IP. :)

AWESOME
Regardless if the Testamonium Flavium was added or doctored, Josephus nonetheless was a reliable witness of the person of Jesus. All the variants of Josephus' witness mention the historical Jesus minus or plus the Testamonium Flavium which expresses the resurrection of Jesus.
I think it's for Skeptics looking for a gotcha moment.

Another great video. I noticed you referred to 1st century Judea as “Palestine”. The region was not called Palaestina by the Romans until after the Jewish revolt and defeat in 135AD. This error seems to be very common, even amongst historians. It is important to correct given the current attempt to deny the deep connection between the Jews and the Holy Land. Thanks for your great work, though!

Book of the Title, from 10th century confirms that Josephus of 37 CE was not doctored much when it was doctored in the 3rd century? Do you have more detail to give or are you not seeing the problem with this claim?
+Steven R. Parker That is how textual criticism is done. You just not liking the date range is not an argument.
+InspiringPhilosophy
Let me clarify the discrepancy I'm seeing. You said that the support for Josephus not being "too doctored" was a text written 1000 years later.
How do you connect a 1000 year old document to a 2000 year old document as confirmation that the 2000 year old document wasn't doctored "too much" 1700 years ago?
Couldn't it just as easily been the case that the 1000 year old document copied the doctored 1700 year old document?
+Steven R. Parker It could be, but the internal evidence in the Book of the Title suggests it is very early and predates scribal influence. Check out the source from Craig Evans I gave in the video who goes over this. There are a lot more historical tests used to evaluate something. If we just went on the date of the actual text, Pliny would only be around 1250 years old. In fact most of our ancient works would not be that old.
*****
Can you describe how the strongest of these internal tests works?
Steven R. Parker Strongest? The strongest is a collection of them. Robert Stein lists several: www.biblicalstudies.org.uk/pdf/gp/gp1_authenticity_stein.pdf?
There are many strategies historians apply.

Actually no, "to" is correct. I thought the same thing you said when i first watched the video, but reread the sentence. the video is correct.
Can you address post tribulation, pre-tribulation and mid tribulation in the future video?
Siang Sure, but I reject all three as a partial preterist.
Very nice like usual IP. Josephus in the first passage says Jesus was a doer of wonderful works, but in the second he doesn't. Sometimes I use Josephus like the talmud for evidence that Jesus was known as a miracle worker (as well as Celsus and the enemies in the Gospel narratives) do you think its better not to?
Matt Lord No, I would use it.
Oh okay, and can you check your messages please? I was challenged by someone, and I don't know QM well enough (yet) to respond..Do you know how to?
I don't know if it counts as external evidence but the Quran also mentions Jesus
It's less useful as it was compiled 600 years after Jesus. If you're a Muslim, that's not a problem, but to scholars it is.
Firstly, your videos are nicely produced, and you are obviously sincere in your desire to defend/perpetuate belief in Jesus. But the Josephus passage is not just thought to be a doctored version of an original passage of Josephus' - it is thought to be a wholesale insertion, not merely because of its gushing tone, unbefitting if a Jew such as Josephus, but also because it is completely out of context where it was inserted (ie it disturbs the natural flow of the text). Moreover however, Alice Whealey (in 2008) refuted the thesis that the Arabic fragment of the Testimonium supports its authenticity. It does not, because the Arabic fragment does not come from Josephus at all. It comes from Eusebius, through the intermediary of a well-known Syriac translation of Eusebius. We're you aware of this? If so, why do you not mention it?
Actually most scholars believe it is authentic but interpolated. See the sources I gave when I went over that.
Obviously I am aware the arabic passages comes from intermediary sources. I gave the sources in the video that show where it was written down. The doesn't show it is false and supports the interpolated hypothesis.
You said that "Most scholars accept this passage was ... originally more like what is found in the Arabic manuscript." You are using 'argumentum ad populum' fallacy, to support an assertion that is demonstrably untrue. I asked you whether you knew that it has been demonstrated that the Arabic manuscript was merely, in fact, a 10th C translation, of an 8th C Syriac Chronicle (Theophilus of Odessa's), derived from a 5th C Syriac translation, derived from **Eusebius'** 4th C Historian Ecclesiastica, containing the gushing, Christianised version of Josephus ... and you answered with some vague acknowledgement that the Josephus passage is an interpolation ... as if anyone disputes that. A red herring. So, were you aware of the Arabic manuscript's providence, as I have set out above, and - if so - why are you giving the impression (in your video) that Josephus' writing was probably "originally more like what is found in the Arabic manuscript.", when the Arabic manuscript is an Arabic translation, of a Syriac derivation, of a Syriac translation, of **Eusebius'**!!!!??!! The impression created by your video is, therefore, misleading.
No, an ad populum fallacy would be saying something is true because most people believe it. I am saying most experts agree it was interpolated because of the evidence. Appealing to experts is not a fallacy. The arabic script fits with the internal writing style of Jospehus. Again, see the sources I give listed at 3:22

Inspiringphilosophy, some question the reliability of Annals 15:44 and Josephus writings on Jesus. How do you know this evidence is legit from the original historians and not just edited by Christians or other people. I personally believe this evidence, but then I read about how this may not be legit evidence and it started to concern me. Thanks. Amen
You already explained Josephus, but what about Annals 15:44?
+RichireX because there is no evidence that it's not reliable. Historians don't start with the idea ''well it may be forged, even if I don't have any evidence for it being forged''. That's not how it goes. When we read ancient historians we take it as fact and then work out the details on what is legit and what's altered. And all in all, the NT evidence is better then most ancient sources. Take care
Thanks.

If I"m not mistaken the Talmud passage you cited refers to Jesus being hanged, not crucified. Isn't that a counterargument to your position, at least as far as the Talmud is concerned?
