Why are people surprised that Soojin can sing? YG has very high standards for trainees(He discovered BlackPink after all) yet he was impressed enough by Soojin that he made her the first Female Center of Mixnine. To win that position, you had to be stable while singing live and performing complicated dance choreography. Out of the 98 girls that competed, he decided that Soojin was the best all-round trainee, that means dance, vocals, stability, screen presence and visuals all had to be on point. Remember that Itzy's Ryujin, Loona's Heejin and Hyunjin and the Dreamcatcher girls were all competing against Soojin for that position. To win against that level of competition means Soojin really had to be good in all areas, not just dance which she specializes in. During the many live stages in Mixnine episodes, Soojin proved time and time again how vocally stable she was while simultaneously executing strenuous dance choreography. And she was one of the youngest competitors(16 yrs old) at the time Mixnine was filming. She's only gotten even better now in 2021.
personnally i've never watched mixnine and i did'nt need to. just 5mins on youtube will makes you realize how much of vocalists they are... which is creepy for their ages. jiyoon was right.

I'm a Soojin stan and even I was blown away at how powerful her voice is @ 1:04 to 1:18. I've always known that she can sing but I think Play M needs to utilize her powerful low-mid vocal range more. She actually has a very pleasing vocal tone.

In my opinion 4th gen are focusing in rap and dancing and it's rare to find a vocalist group and i really think that weekly are the best in vocals in this generation they had powerful and unique voice 👏🤍
honestly weeekly is one of the gg's on top vocally in my opinion only behind the likes of mamamoo and other 3rd gen gg's but definitely the best vocals of all 4th gen gg's

This guest appearance really opened my ears to their vocal potential. Obviously they sound so good right now, but imagine 5-10 years from now? Monday, and Soeun are easily the strongest singers in the group. Jiyoon and Jihan are really close, their specialty is singing in the higher registers. Then following behind them is Jaehee, Soojin and then Zoa. Zoa's voice is so soft, but with more practice, it can really be something great. Soojin's voice surprised me the most, I've heard her sing in Just Dance (Mix9) but to hear it singled out and alone at 1:12 - 1:18 you can hear that underdog power in her voice. I just know that their techniques are going to improve and improve over time and to witness that growth, Wahhh~ I can't wait! Until then I'll be appreciating every second of their journey! Soojin was the original center from MIXNINE ( she was first among more than 100 trainees around korea including big companies (shin ryujin)) , she was only 15 at the time but she caught YG attention . on the show, she stayed the longest on the debut bus and was always top 9 ( but unfortunately, she got a car accident and had to withdraw ) . she s strong . She has been through so much already ( she can't wear all types of clothing because of the scars of the accident ), the original members from the group she was supposed to debut all left exept 2 , she s fast to learn choreographies, she s the main dancer, she s stable while singing and dancing, face expressions are great, she's very strategic and smart ( proofs in Mixnine while choosing the members, song choices ) Now she is the center and leader of WEEEKLY. She is now a super-center ! she deserves it !
It's amazing how you can tell which one is singing, because their voice is distinct with one another and gosh their vocals are the best among the 4th gen
