Great video on the Z8! It is getting more and more attention lately by folks who do mainly video. I’ve been posting about the Z8 since before it was launched, after trying out a Z9 and hearing it was going to be a baby Z9. The Z8 has most of the Z9 features with the awesome video features but mainly Nikon photo shooters were getting the Z8. Still extremely embarrassing for Nikon even after getting their game up and advertising their video being great (which it is) and even after acquiring Red… they still don’t even have a basic shutter angle option. That’s why I bought into the Lumix S series because they have everything a video maker needs and wants.
None of the footage looks good though. The curve is weird and all the skin tones look off even kind of sickly and gray. I know that this isn’t necessarily a limitation of the cameras but if that’s the base color science it means at least a complete look transform before one could do any narrative work with it. Also unusable amount of rolling shutter.

Yes, there is time code (for internal and external recording).
I like that RED camera you have there 😏
There's nothing from RED in the Z8. The Z8 came out wayy before the acquisition
That image reminds me of a red cam
If every RUclipsr starts to adapt nikon, we all be in a darker era. The image is noisy and nikon ire is really low before clipping, forcing you to underexpose. 😢
I tested it side by side with bmd/pana n sony n had to underexpose the nikon every time to not clip the highlights 😅
Still extremely embarrassing for Nikon even after getting their game up and advertising their video being great (which it is) and even after acquiring Red… they still don’t even have a basic shutter angle option. That’s why I bought into the Lumix S series because they have everything a video maker needs and wants.
I GOT TECHNICOLOR RIGHT! I did...I...did you see?... did anyone... did... I uhm.... I'm so alone 😭
Sony better watch out!!!
1:51 - this blabbermouth is so damn overrated "in my opinion"
I shot with it 👍🏾
Good luck affording the storage drives and computing power needed for 8K files
none of the samples are raw, but rec709 8 bit.
what?
@@tayebamghar07 lol
Over $3K - you call that cheap?
In the video camera world it is for these specs. A red V raptor or Burano would be 30k .
Синий канал по-прежнему страдает и вылазит наружу. Может когда-нибудь в никон завезут нормальные цвета от red. Пока что это все еще фотоаппарат
Zoom in and not no one person is talking how much you lose all lens characteristics...
I instinctively dont like Nikon just because of the shutter soud it had back in the day ;) Great video as always
🤣
@@filmriot You know i am not wrong tho ;) But this cam looks real good
@@lawes88it has no shutter 🤣
@@lawes88 You're definitely wrong the dslr shutter sounds on nikons are heavenly.
I don't understand such admiration. canon R5C also has 8k raw 60p and it's great. And if I'm not confused, canon came out earlier.
True but there's no sensor stabilization, and the battery life is markedly worse. That's about it I believe
@@potentiallyperfectshorts4289 I would add that due to the stack sensor Z8 has less rolling shutter.
@@stavros.fourfourianakis And much better DR, watch the CineD real life latitude test.
The R5C cannot shoot 8K RAW without external power. That is a substantial shortcoming. The Z8 has no such limitation for 8K RAW.
✌🏽
