*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*
They are awesome
What is the run time under load per tank?
Thanks for this - it's my project at the moment as my onboard generator has failed and I don't see myself spending $6,000 to replace it.
If I may though...you about popped my ears. I had the volume right for your intro then the music banged in at twice the level.
I've never noticed that. Sorry about that
Nice video! Thanks for the info. I think if you go to the trouble to waterseal some plywood for the base, you should drill some weep holes first. Also, you might be able to fashion a simple ramp to bring it up to and down from the cargo carrier.
Very good idea. I'll be making sure I do that. Good call. Thank you.
The ramps was the first thing that I thought would make it drastically easier to load and unload! Great idea though!
FYI, my HF 3500 did not come with pre installed oil.....be carful out there..thanks for the tips on the HF rack!
😊
Nice set-up, great review. Wish I could do what you did to my 2021 20BH Geopro, but the black tank is too close to the back. I really hate not having a generator, especially camping in the south.
Hey you considered adding a hitch receiver to the front of your tow vehicle to mount a cargo carrier? Doing that to on my Econoline to be able to haul my Predator 3500.
I have e feeling you can add a reciver
Thank you for posting
You bet!
Thank you very much for the video! Very Nice!
Thanks for watching, safe travels
I'm looking to mount a generator my self the theft aspect is supreme if u were parked overnight in Miami in the mooring it would be gone a battery saws all cut that thin tubing blam gone. But I like your video.
Good ole Miami
trying to figure this out myself with out major money or modifications. will use propane a only source, class b so no truck bed
Could you add a bicycle rack onto the back of this rack? It looks like the receiver tubing runs all the way through to the back but doesn’t have a hole for pine.
Could you just add the hole and throw in a bicycle hitch carrier?
I wouldn't. Way to much stress in the hitch of the cargo carrier.
I do not know if you were asked this, but can you run the generator right there in the cage?
yes, but boy o boy does it vibrate through the RV. We tried it, never again.
One word: (1/2”) plywood 😊
Only question I have is do you feel any vibration inside the camper when generator is running? I understand the noise would be fine but the vibration?
Fell? no. sound traveling into the rv? YES!!!!
What type of lock.
Any kind will do
Great idea. I was looking at doing a similar set up with 2 of the 3500. Do you think you can run them on there while traveling? Like when you stop for the night at Camp Walmart or Camp Cracker Barrel?
The 3500 do not link, like if you had 2 2000 watt generators.
Can you run generator in cage and not take out ?
Yes, but the sound travels through the rv frame, and it's loud
Do you ever run the generator (and air conditioning) while driving?
Hi no, we do not drive the generator on.
Time to add plywood.
That is on the list. What do you think? Half in? Or 3/4?
@@Upforthejourney weld two pieces of aluminum “U” channel in, that will act like a track. Be able to roll in and help stabilize front to back.
I’m looking to buy a generator for my rv and it is 40ft with 2 acs, would it handle?
Not at the same time. You'd need a bigger, heavier generator.
Only 1 ac could be running.
You recommended the e3 spark plugs, but I don't know which one to buy--the manual says F7TC (Torch) or equivalent. When I look up e3, I'm seeing e3.36 for Powersports (rather than automotive). Does that sound like the right one? Thanks! I also found one called "small engine, lawn and garden equipment")
I went to the auto zone and I showed them the OEM plug, they cross-referenced the number for me
Do you remove the generator from the carrier to use. I have the 2000 watt units. If did not have the cover on unit. Thanks
the 3500w one we do.
I have a Predator 3500 generator and am doing the same thing for my camper. It is a cargo trailer conversion with electric installed so this way I can run the generator at night if I'm staying at a roadside rest or Walmart for the night, or anytime for that matter. I'm cutting a piece of plywood for the base, and covering it with high density foam to cut down vibration. Nice job!
Like the foam idea.
Good video and there is no doubt that predator is far and above the Honda for the money I have watched at least 8-10 videos how people just love the predator!
We really like ours!
I’ve had 2 of the 3500 watt Predators. They are heavy and awkward, but well worth the money. Only issue I’ve had is at high altitude, 8000+, they tend to run very rich because they are struggling for air. Spark plug fowls, spark arrester carbons up. Drilled holes in cover plate and more in the side solved the problem. I couldn’t tell if you had a 5th wheel or bumper pull. I have a 30’ bumper pull and bought a generator rack that mounts over your propane tanks. The generator never comes off the trailer, even to change the oil. Just cut a small square on the shelf the size of the drain plug on the generator. There’s enough room to put a tray on top of the propane tanks to catch the oil. You have to get a soft propane tank cover so you can still remove tanks. I used small chain with heat shrink tubing and bolted them over the wheels to lock generator down..I have that exact same aluminum rack on the back for other things like gas cans and such. Get a no rattle hitch clamp to make the rack more solid on the back.
We were going to go the above the propane tanks, but we wanted to move the weight in the back, Plus our room is in the front of the RV, so noise would be in the back.
@@Upforthejourney I kind of balanced the weight. Generator, Rack and 2 heavier 6 volt batteries on front, and carrier rack on back with gas cans and other camp gear. More weight in front is better than to much in rear. Plus we have a front kitchen and our bedroom with slide is in the rear. I made a extension on the exhaust to divert fumes away from trailer. The ease of just removing the generator cover and the electric start without ever having to pick up or even move the generator is huge. Plus all maintenance is done without ever having to remove the generator because of the hole I cut on the rack just below the bottom drain plug. I do have to use a small step ladder to fill the gas tank. I spend 5 weeks in Colorado every September boondocking (elk hunting) so I carry about 6 cans of gas for generator and quad.
Any issues with the way the carrier is mounting onto the frame of the RV? Etrailer is telling me they don't recommend using these kinds of cargo carriers, but have not understood that my Reflection has a 2" receiver already mounted with 300lbs tongue weight.
So this bumper was welded on with w
2in square tubing, to the frame. MUCH more ridged than what come stock on RVs now days.
If you do use on of these carriers. I'd suggest checking the bolts that hold the hitch to the frame frequently, if you're going to max load it. (I don't suggest going to max load)
Cool
Thanks
Good video. I added a piece of diamond plate as a floor on you carrier. I riveted it in place, nice and light.
I have 2 of the predator 3500’s for our 5th wheel and at home for power outages. I’m very pleased with them.
They're great generators
Do you carry both on the carrier? Im looking at doing the same
@@lastlaplogistics8512 yes but I added a piece of checker plate as a deck with eye blots so I can secure the gennys with ratchet straps and chain for locks. I made up a short 50amp cable to go from the parallel box to the power inlet on the back drivers side corner of the 5th wheel.
@@hardtruth2039 nice! I'm going to to build something like that. Thank you for the response
Here is idea for bottom get snowmobile ski slides for snowmobile trailér for wheels they will slide very easy
Good video thanks for taking the time to show people I just got a small camper for my back yard here in Pensacola
I miss P'cola. Shakes on Palofax. Do you know about Mrs. Jones Cold Brew coffee?
Love your set up. I just got a 5000 and a cargo rack. Thanks for the video.
Right on!
Question? Couldn’t you just leave the generator on the rack and use it from there? Then you wouldn’t have to lift it in and out unless you needed to repair or service it.
You can on the side of the road, but at a boondocking site, no way, to loud in the RV
Thanks for the info. I have the same hitch cargo carrier, and want to carry our Honda 3000si on it behind our 2020 Reflection 303. I have a couple questions. Do you leave your generator, on the carrier when running? Any issues with it bouncing around while traveling?
Normally we don't leave it on the carrier when running, just because the sound travels into the rv, and vibrations from the carrier through the hitch magnify in the rv.
As far as bouncing..... I'd so no issues, I have a ratchet strap holding it down, but then again I can't see it while driving.
Hope this helps.
I'm very concerned when I see anything heavy mounted to the rear of the axle on a trailer. This can cause excessive swaying from the rear of the trailer which is extremely dangerous. Please be mindful of the weight distribution and be certain that there is sufficient weight on the hitch. It can all seem fine, but something like turbulence from a passing vehicle could be enough to start a sway which can escalate and very quickly get way out of control.
I agree. But this only weighing in at 90lbs.. plus there's no storage inside towards the rear, sway is not an issue. Unfortunately, all our storage is up front. So it's actually nice to have some weight towards the back.
Thank you for the video it was excellent
Thanks for watching
Just put down thin sheet. Steel on the bottom like you made for the top lid. Lighter weight also
Great idea
why not just hard mount the unit into the cage?
add in to the rv another 110ac plug at the rear. and a very short connector cord.
you are not using a Honda eu 3000, if you were to use one you can add to it a extended fill tank remote start.
then using a 4 inch pvc you can make a stack to vent the exhaust above your rv.
Because it's a toy hauler. we'd put the rear down for camping sometimes.
Thanks! I was mostly interested in the hitch/carrier you made.
Super simple (for the welders) to put a square bar on and make 2 hitch sleeves.
Nice design everyone be sure to use locks I've had a plain regular hitch receiver stolen before so imagine if a generator was sitting there.
Would it be eaiser to keep the generator on the rack and run it from there? Basically pull the power wire to the back instead of unloading and loading the generator each time? Just a thought.
The vibrations from the crate to the RV frame is annoying
@@Upforthejourney Maybe if there was foam sandwiched between a couple sheets of waterproofed plywood the vibration would not be so bad...
Thanks for sharing
no problem
Im glad you did this. I've been telling my wife I want to build a cage for ours for the generator and my wife was having a hard time picturing it. This helped. 👍
Rock n roll. glad it helped out
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
is there alot of bounce weight going on with the genny back there?
Nope. Genny is 90lbs and the tote was maybe 50lbs.
Great idea! One possibility to improve it would be to place a sheet of aluminum (much lighter than plywood, and pretty much impervious to rot and rust) in the bottom of your cage to roll the generator on, and if necessary because of rattling, have someone weld it in place.
Just bought our first real camper and we're getting ready to hit the road soon. Would love to implement this idea, but weight is an issue.
NOW THAT IS A GRET IDEA! 💡.
THANK YOU!
