Hi Ben Glad to see I featured in one of your video's, that was me flying the C42 two ahead of you doing the touch and go, I was doing some solo circuit consolidation. Really weird to hear your own voice coming across the Radio mind :-)
Great Vids Ben. Being so close to Kemble, no doubt you've visited Oaksey Park? Beautifully maintained, grass with two runways and a picturesque clubhouse. Oh - and self service fuel too if you get twitchy about having enough reserves ;o)
Hey! Thanks very much. Well it’s so close I haven’t been!! I need to nip in one day for sure. It’s only just outside the Kemble ATZ! It’s on my list I should be ticking off as we speak!
You'll be impressed. It's the sort of airfield you'd take a foreign visitor to, to show him how great the UK examples are (hopefully they're keeping it up to standard during the current lockdown!). Isn't Compton Abbas a joy!? So scenic - but with strategic bumps at both ends, just where the wheels want to touch down.....! Before I started flying I thought every grass runway would be like a bowling green. Errrrr…..Wrong!
….or if you want somewhere challenging, you could try my home strip at Barton Ashes Nr. Popham ruclips.net/video/0Uwg_mQH5IE/видео.html (but wait for a day of benign winds!) and somewhere different again is the new 'Astroturf' strip at Sandown, Isle of Wight. Don't expect a smooth plastic carpet though....it's like undulating concrete!
It’s very high workload when making a join, particularly on a rare nice-weather-day in the winter, isn’t it. You handled it very well! Loved the meerkat impression... we all do it, and I’ll be reminded of your video next time I do it 😊
I really like Compton. Great situation. Fun video Ben and your banter with Daisy (or hers with you!) is very enjoyable. Keep them coming and I'm watching your numbers grow.Well done!
Great video Ben. Interesting when Daisy puts the map across your vision for the camera, i think you went into IMC! You will like the Eurostar for quiet pocket rocket speed. I found the the newer SL is roomier over the the older version with the bubble canopy. The big difference will be when you come to land with the low wing - ground effect and the narrow undercarriage. Be very gentle with the braking, especially if there is any crosswind or you will set up a wing wobble and loose traction on the wheels. Look forward to your next escape.
Hey Peter! Thanks for watching. Ha...it does look like that but becuase of the wide angle lens...it didnt actually cover my view at all. Yeh the eurostar is great....slowing it down is the issue! Good tips....thanks for following along.
Cheers Ben. Daisy’s face was a picture when you took off from Compton. The flying gods seem to be lining up my work/family/money commitments in my favour so hopefully I’ll be getting airborne again son. Cross dem fingers.
Really enjoyed that video. I may come and have a look at your club if you have a Eurostar. Once I get my ppl Kemble is only a 5 minute drive from home. Have you ever visited Gloucester? Not far from you at all, the cafe is good, very friendly ATC and You can also visit the museum.
Yes do come up, youll see the eurostar in the next video. I've not flown to glos but did have a PPL trial lesson there a couple years ago. I know it is great! I should really!! Thanks for watching.
@@BenAtkinsonVideos Possibly because it is a stronger cleaner signal from the intercom. The reason I suggested the battery, is the noise attenuation is reduced to your speakers, yet the radio audio to us was not too bad (just slightly weak), so if your batteries are low that signal might be harder to hear over the noise. For me it sort of slowly happened during a flight so by the end it was very hard to hear the radio, yet I could hear my instructor clearly.
Flying Kub That makes sense, my mate was using a battery equipped headset, intercom was fine, general audio - stayed on freq at Kemble as training - from tower was patchy. I think he uses a Light speed Sierra.
Very nice video Ben! I've just twigged doggy cam from last time - doah! Ref the radio, funny you should say about not hearing Kemble all that well, your audio on here is spot on, but my buddy says he's had similar issues at Kemble of late?? He put it down to headset issues (although his HS seemed to be working okay). Worth flagging with the tower and/or your CFI? Doggy flying is a specific set of challenges/skills (a new rating? LOL!) - probably a no no in a microlight and only when 'crated' in a 4 - 6 seat GA aircraft. Plus doggy might not like the motion factor. Not sure if Daisy, was joking or not BTW, but just thought I'd point that out LOL! That was defo a soft field - always have to watch those bumps, and being airborne prematurely - you did well though. 100bhp Rotax? Rapid rate of climb. Lovely scenery and lovely day, looked superb. The visibility is lovely from the aeroplane, I take it that there isn't a heater? If you're switching to the EV97, they've got visibility, plus a heater - just remember cross wind authority etc and smaller ailerons on the EV97, plus they don't iron out turbulence as well as the C42/52s - not sure how the Skyranger Swift's are in those areas. The C42 looked low and tight in on the pattern? Is that because of traffic volume and the C42 choosing the microlight (as a slower aircraft) circuit? IIRC 1000' circuit at Kemble?
Yeh bizarre...i'll flag with my CFI, see what he knows. I dont know if it will be my headset as they work without batteries as well. One to ponder. Yeh I can't see us ever taking him, not worth the risk and he wouldnt enjoy it, she likes to tease me! Yeh I'm gonna get checked out on the eurostar but will be able to fly all 3. And certainly not comfortable in the eurostar yet to land on short strips etc. There was a c42 in the circuit and that was actually a pa28 doing a low weather cirtcuit...the controller said it but it was very hard to hear. Took me by surprise! Skydemon shows a microlight circuit at kemble but they no long have one...!! Thanks for wathcing
New subscriber here, much enjoyed this, top videography and editing skills. Can't wait for my PPL training to resume, hopefully soon! Is "dog on sofa" a checklist item on the Skyranger then? :-)
What about IOW, 80nm as the crow flies. Can't wait for all this nonsense to be over so I get my wings. I may go back to Kemble or Weston Zoyland Flying Club, that's a little closer to me.
@@BenAtkinsonVideos I had a lesson out of there and I toured around at 3,000ft and then I was told to look for and head for the airport. Well, I couldn't see the dammed thing from the air, but he was impressed when I told him it should be over there somewhere. Turned out I was a the side with the trees and you can't see the airfield from there. I was taken by surprise when landing there though, as soon as we got into the cover of the trees the aircraft (Piper) kicked wildly sideways, even the instructor had a bit of difficulty getting it back in time and was starting to say "Going round" when he got it. I gave him back control instantly when it did it, he was making a grad for the controls anyway. Didn't bother him and he was surprised when he saw it didn't bother me either. He asked when I would be back as up till then I had done well, but I live so far away from there that I couldn't go back every weekend. Shame.
I’ve been really enjoying these videos Ben. I got my NPPL at Redlands a few years back. Flew both flex and fixed. I had to sell my Thruster T600N which I loved when we moved about. Now we’re settled back in Dorset, these videos are making me want to take to the skies again. BTW how do you record your voiceovers. They sound really good. I’m looking for a way to do mine.
Hey thanks for watching. Awesome to fly both flex and fixed. Yeh you must get up again! Ah thanks very much. I actually work for Heart the radio station so I have acess to several wonderful studios! But I do have some tips on kit you need for voiceover stuff - thatll be a video sometime.
Ben Atkinson I look forward to that video. I thought you might have used a studio booth. The sound reminded me of my teenage years (many many years ago) when I was involved in a local radio program. I have some ideas for a little collaboration if you’re up for it. Send me an email alan@wildandstory.com or via my website www.wildandstory.com and I’ll send through my thoughts. Keep up the videos. They’re making me look through AFORS again!!
Another great video Ben, can’t wait to show it to the kids later so they can see Westbury and the White Horse from the air. Loved Daisy’s face on takeoff and when she suggested taking Ernie for a flight it reminded of this video where the cat stowed away in the wing! ruclips.net/video/J_8mdH20qTQ/видео.html
Thanks Mark! Ah yes...its impressive from the air...almost everything is to be honest. Shes adament the dog would enjoy it ,...im not so sure - though that cat did ok! And it looks like a skyranger?
Ben Atkinson I don’t know if it is a Skyranger or not, all I know is that it has no doors and VERY loose fitting seatbelts! So..... no thanks, wouldn’t catch me in that! Haha Maybe you could see how the dog reacts to the aircraft by taking him for some taxiing and some aborted takeoff runs to see if he freaks out before you get him in the air?
Every time I see you're good lady wearing those Bose a20s I have a little lol. Easy life always wins.
Compton looks brilliant such a scenic area!🌍
Compton is stunning! Thanks for watching ...
Meerkat Moment! Nice job!
haha!! Thanks for watching
great video ben
Great video , if you head up north visit Barton or Blackpool , work at Blackpool Airport for an operator there
Ah cheers for commenting Andrew! Yes they're on my list actually. Must give it a go.
Speedy takeoff mate, nice! Well handled on arrival too, very busy. Looking forward to the next one as always :).
Thanks mate...it was busy! Always something going on....cheers for following along buddy

Come to Oxford!

Kemble busy!
Looking forward to seeing the Eurostar video Ben. That’s one I’d like to have a go in.

Try Defford Croft Farm. A great farm shop and cafe a short stroll from the field. Eurostar - my favourite aircraft, the best visibility.
