Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you appreciate it; snow can make a simple run very arduous, rough, and downright slow at times. Especially if it's a heavy, and wet snow.
Neat watching this at 8pm Dec19 and listening to the freight train going from Boston to Maine out my window at the same time, it has 5 crossings all within 2mi of my house
Pulling heavy train uphill and with the tracks slippery from snow is the issue, hope he has plenty of sand. should have had two locos, preferably one in the rear where it can enjoy relatively dry rail.
I grew up in Roseville and know that section of track very well. I lived in the neighborhood to the south east of Snelling and Co Rd C. Brings back sone great memories!
5:31 lol at the train pushing the packed snowbank onto the railroad crossing. Probably forced drivers to switch lanes to avoid the thick packed snow and give the mayor a nasty email or phone call :)
There is a plow on the front of the pilot sheet and besides the snow isn’t that deep. He’s going uphill, restricted to a low speed and is pulling a somewhat heavy load.
Thanks for the comment! I was wondering that as well; if they were able to get more of a running start at the hills, if it would have been as much of a struggle for them.
@@SD457500 thanks for responding. Great to hear from a poster. I like that you are local cause gotten I can relate more. Have you checked out the rail yard in Shakopee? 169 south when it starts to curve westward. You go over it. I just see it from the highway. It just seems active
i live in canada, i'm used to snow on the roads.. its no big deal. If a train plows into a pile on snow, there isn't much of the pile left to cause problems and what there is my truck handles fine. Better this than an avalanche.
What? What universe do you come from? Where else are they supposed to plow the snow? It's not like they did it on purpose to try to make that beat up old pile of crap stall out pushing 1 ft. of snow out of the way. Maybe the railroad should invest in better equipment?
@@SD457500 Just out of curiosity, do they still use MNNR T-2? I'm mostly curious since it's one of the last few ex-SOU GEs in the US to retain its high-hood, even though it's technically now just a slug.

Any company that ships with that outfit ought to have their head examined. Can't even afford an engine or two to run the route and move the snow? What a joke.
They run a good operation; it just got hampered by HEAVY and wet snow along their entire route, and the first train along the line can have some issues. Winter always makes things interesting for ANY railroad; class ones and short lines alike.
Scab railroad. That used to be a union job for a union worker . Making a living for his family. You have companies like the CP RAIL ROAD short lining their railroad forcing their employees to either quit or take a huge pay cut and work for a shit company like this one .
As the son and grandson of union men, I am grateful for what they do, but at the end of the day the customer drives the market. The union shop has to offer something to the customer that makes paying the premium worth it.

The sounds were fantastically captured. That deep growling engine and that horn. That beast is a true workhorse.
That's some good plowing action. Loved it!
It's 42 degrees celcius here in Australia today so I'm finding tis quite soothing.

Well done. Great photography.
Fantastic horn on this beauty!
I was in Roseville a couple of weeks ago, I wish I could have seen this old U-boat.
Thanks for the comment! This job runs three days a week, and usually has this sort of power still. The Commercial runs power like this daily.
Fantastic
I always thought these tracks were abandoned
Thanks for the comment, and view! This line gets served three times a week, and thankfully, has gotten much busier in the last few years too.
That poor little U-Boat is working hard for its money
Love the sound of that old U boat! Great horn too.

Probably should have added another engine on that heavy of a train in those conditions 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
It's 12 cars. It doesn't need another unit. That'd be stupid. Even with that unit, that's over a 1.0 HpT. And it's not even a heavy train.
Tom you're right! I completely agree with you!

If only they used a Jordan spreader. That would have made it through with no problems.

Puzzled by the fact that this guy has an entire snowbank on top of his car

Might want to fix the sanders!
Wow awesome Dash 7 U Boat
Some crossings build up so much ice the trains have to go slow or else derail. Besides that it's not that much for one engine to tow.
Dashing through the snow in my big ole red train. Down the tracks I go. Sliding all the way

Or have it be pushing a Jordan spreader

Not even close to cold in Minnesota yet, -30f and colder is very normal for us.
