@@mikeyaureliush9017 That is explained perfectly by an old musician a number of years back. He noticed that all the old Producers who would deliberately go out on a limb and just release music because it was there in their hands and just see how it went. If it did well, Awesome! If it didnt do well, bah who cares, NEXT!
They got hippies involved to give them insider information about what people liked and disliked and gave them internships. They steadily went up the ladder into management with that exact same mindset still in place. They knew what people wanted to listen to and destroyed the creative juices of the industry with their shallow and simplistic mindset and wouldn't give the creative sorts the time of day to record.
There lies the death of the industry.
Edit: I believe that was Frank Zappa.

I admit that I want to thump my head on the desk when I hear people attribute songs to a recent movie instead of their actual origins. But I am very happy that people are paying attention to music from back then. There was a lot of good music then and I'm glad it's not all being lost to time.

(Sir) Jeff Lynne - yes he should have already have been knighted a while ago now and for a good few years I would say due to his long work within the music industry already. Born Dec 1947 in Birmingham - so he's getting on now (73), yet he was still touring (except for the Covid difficulty lately.) - and his voice has barely changed a bit since he first began in 1963.
A genius composer, songwriter, multi-talented musician - even a producer for many others, too. The Beatles, George Harrison, Tom Petty (Free Falling) - and even managed to get Roy Orbison back to singing again. Later while having a chat with George - they decided to form the Supergroup "The Travelling Wilburys" with Harrison . . . by them both picking who they'd like to be in it - all who were asked agreed to do it.
Their is, or used to be, an excellent documentary about Jeff on YT - about 40-50 mins long I think. With contributions from so many people about his musicianship and talents . . . Hope you can find and watch it m8 . . . Enjoy . . .

So many layers to the ELO masterpieces and there are so, so many. Have a look at ELO live at Hyde Park, London from 2014 where they are backed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Phenomenal 👍😊

Am sure you've heard most of their songs but don't realize it. They're amazing. He still tours and sounds practically the same.

A really good one by them that's often overlooked is called 'I'm Alive'. It was part of the Xanadu movie soundtrack that also featured Olivia Newton John, who played a major character in the movie. I think the entire second half of the record is Jeff Lynne and the title song, Xanadu, is ELO and ONJ together.

Thanks for this one Pat - ELO, mashing classical instruments with classic rock tracks long before it was popular.... this always makes me wonder what KO and PTX could do with some ot their tracks... Love my acapella but classic rock with awesome harmonies will always be my fave. Cheers !

As a senior who was in my 20s when ELO hit the scenes, we referred to them as both: ELO or Electric Light Orchestra. Jeff Lynne & ELO was huge with great music. Lynne went on to become a god amongst songwriters, as well as a producer for many famous artists.
Check out his role in the "Supergroup" of groups, in 1988, "The Travelling Wilburys" with Donovan, Jeff Lynne, & the late gr8s George Harrison, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison. Their session drummer was Jim Keltner, roundly regarded as the best session drummer in America. All these super musicians checked their egos at the door and wrote and recorded 10 songs in one day (so the story goes).

I was in high school when ELO first came out critics at the time really trashed them as a weird mix of classical instruments and Rock and they called it something like garbage rock or something like that.
