How far west are they seems a bit early for the salmon to be schooling up we don't normally get them until mid March in WA

we get them in SA basically all of the warmer months, we also get a lot through winter but they don't seem to school up like this

This is the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula south australia mate, I come across big schools of salmon at this spot all year round but more consistently during the warmer months

Interesting some people say the schools we get in WA migrate from the Eastern States others say the Western Salmon are a slightly different species hence they're bigger. I'm not sure which is correct but they seem to school up and spawn around Perth and Rottnest Island in March/April. As for being bigger 700 to 800 mm is not rare about that size the green on their back turns almost black my PB was over a metre I didn't weigh it but it would have been 6 to 7 Kg easily

@@toddmillar4041 there are 4 different fish in the family (Arripis georgianus) Australian Herring/Tommy Ruff, (Arripis trutta) Eastern Australian Salmon, (Arripis truttaceus) Western Australian Salmon and (Arripis xylabion) Giant Kahawai
Western Australian Salmon grow larger then Eastern Australian Salmon but not as big as Giant Kahawai and are a migratory fish, they start there lives as juveniles around South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania where they live for around 4-5 years before Migrating to Western Australia to spawn, they start migrating at the end of winter and then hang around SA during the summer months eating to fatten up for the migration, they will hang around SA untill the mullet migration (Feb-Apr) and then follow the mullet around to Western Australia giving them a stable food source for the migration, they Migrate around to Cape Leeuwin and Busselton where they then spawn, the spawn then is picked up by the Leeuwin Current which then takes them back around to SA, Vic and Tas where the cycle begins again, after the fish themselves spawn generally they then migrate back to SA (generally they don't go much further east then Cape Jaffa) thats why in SA you get big schools of fish in the summer (migrating to western Australia to spawn) and then other schools of fish during the year (returning schools are normally smaller)
