    It's excruciating watching this guy start his bike.
    I was a 52kg malay man and I had no problem starting my 1951 Triumph Thunderbird with a kick.

    Hey man , it appears that you are left footed. Being that , you mount the bike facing the rear of the bike use the heel of your foot and keep your knee locked while pumping the pumper.
    Hope that helps 🤗

  • @JakeAnnetts
    @JakeAnnetts 12 лет назад +3

    You need to straddle it, stand on the footpegs, then with your right leg jump using your whole weight. It'll start. The way you're doing it you'll damage your ankle mate, with respect.

  • @smidermann
    @smidermann 9 лет назад +23

    Painful to watch. Not enough words that haven't been said already.

  • @JakeAnnetts
    @JakeAnnetts 13 лет назад +3

    Ok mate, here's the deal... you straddle it like you are sitting on it, then you stand on the pedals... put your right foot on the kick start... and with all your weight you jump on the kick start, twisting the throttle as you do. Then you get an almighty roar and it fires up. There's a knack to it, but it saves you having your ankle stuffed up.

    So many disagreeable comments - we all start somewhere and it sounds like you and the camera person are enjoying your bike even before it trimbles off down the road. Certainly advice regarding starting it like you mean it is helpful - with the ignition off, rotate the engine until it goes over the compression stroke then comes onto it again. That gets fuel into the chamber and puts the engine in a situation where it's more likely to start than hospitalise you:) ride in peace

    • @gitarthap.bhuyan3100
      @gitarthap.bhuyan3100 5 лет назад

      Bullets are manufactured by Royal Enfield. This bike right here is a BSA. Two very differnt things.
      Also the name bullet was not given for its firing technique. Because RE was primarily a weapons manufacturer in the UK, thats why the first bike they manufactured was named bullet and hence the name remained even though the company got shut down in the UK and later was revived by Eicher motors in India in 1948. And the first bike they manufactured here in India was the bullet.
      Firing technique dont have any name. Its just releasing the compression and putting the piston into the top position for easy kick starting.
      Peace out.

    Lovely looking bike, one bit of advise adn i learnt this the very hard way kicking mine over, get on the bike evern with no seat stand ont he pegs it makes it a lot easier to kick the bike over, also dont jump on the kick start leaver it will do damage prime it as you do till it gets to top dead center then give one short sharp kick

    The BSA A10SR never had twin carbs, the inlet tract is a siamese cast with the head. The only twin carb A10's were specially machined. Many years ago a friend of mine had his Super Rocket head machined by a guy in Evesham, called Ken Haines.

    Hey dude my dad has a a10 and she starts first swing
    You’re not altering the advance and retard lever which is why she is kicking back at you
    You have two little levers on the bars
    Ones choke the other is the advance and retard
    And don’t kick it over get on the bike and just use your body weight to rock and push the engine over with a little force could take up to 2-3 swings if it’s lay for a while or timing isn’t spot on or both
    Hope this helps

  • @zigzag941
    @zigzag941 4 года назад

    Dude, it looks like you're scared of it. Stand up on the foot pegs if you have to but lay the hell into it. And if that old British twin kicks back your spark advance isn't working right. My first ride when I was 17, I'm 75 now, was a '56 BSA Golden Flash A10. I was a skinny kid only weighing 129 lbs soaking wet with bricks in both my pocket but I'd get her started. I'd prime that old Amal, I'd stand up on the foot pegs. take a great big wind-up worthy of a circus act and come down hard on the kick start all the while praying the spark advance was set right so it wouldn't kick back and either break my leg or send me over the handlebars. I'm older and heavier now but i still ride.

    I had a rigid framed 1954 ish a10, as a kid, you just need to get used to the starting ritual!!, thats all, each bike is unique, ...monobloc carbs... press each plunger a few times to prime , get kicker in top dead centre, give an almighty big kick....blamblamblamblamblam,...........unless you are doing something seriously wrong lol

  • @KJs581
    @KJs581 4 года назад

    Never kicked any of my Brit bikes unless astride them. (But ALWAYS kicked my Ducati alongside it - they are made like that.) Horses for courses.
    When cold, don't kick it like a trail bike with just your leg. Crank onto compression, reset, get on it, put all your weight behind it (stand on it) - ride it through THAT compression and that gives you run up to the next compression stroke, and it should go. As I have long legs; I always have the bars turned to the left; then if it DOES kick back, no chance to break your knee against bar ends.
    My 62 A10 starts like that. It was harder to start than my Ducati; but then again, it USED to have the 357 Spitfire cam, should be easier now with the correct 356. Used to kick back with the 357, not with the 356.
    All are easier to kick than my 74 T150 Trident. A kick starter throw really designed for a 500 speed twin, then stretched to a Trident 750; and mine is a 1,000 Hyde kit. Oh well.
    59 model? Pear shape badges fitted from 60 onwards (listed in parts as 60 - 62) mine was made in 63, as there were 400 made in 63; like most bikes, they have a "model year" but bikes still get made after that because parts are left, so "they keep making them until "run out".
    So I tell people mine is a "62 Golden Flash" - because if I say "63", then get all the "No such thing!!!" experts arguing. Technically it is a 62 model, year of manufacture, 63; but spares lists/manuals only go up to 62.
    Most people aren't fussed, just like to see the bikes. MOST A10's had the round badges, as they were fitted to 2 Gal tanks until the end; only pear shaped badges were on 4 gal starting in 60 and only 60 - 62.
    Many fit the round badge 4 gal tank as many preferred it/easier to get/looking like RGS. The pear badges were more "A50/A65" style, and many A10 owners didn't like them, so fitted the round badge tanks "to make it look like an A10, not an A65" - depends on your preference.
    I prefer the round ones myself, but the pear for mine are "correct." Each to their own. When I got mine in 1978, it didn't have the correct tank; it had a stupid "chopper" 1 Gallon "peanut" tank. Yuk. I have had a round badge tank for years; recently got a newer one; but am going to get a pear type as it should really be correct.
    Both Both round and pear look good. Most just like seeing these great old bikes.
    Enjoy it. I have had mine for 40 years, and finally getting the attention/TLC it deserves!
    :-)
    Nice to see this bike though.

      Hey mate. I am rebuilding a BSA A10 GF (very late model). I bought it in 78, got it going, rode it to work for a year; then left it until now. I should have bought the bits back then. It is now fully stripped.
      Buy the best one you can afford - because parts are.......... well.
      There are LOTS of parts, but many dodgy ones. It is like old cars. Consumables/engine parts are good - but "tinware" (guards/covers etc etc) cost a fair bit. There are lots of cheap bits, but many sub standard. With old cars, everyone kept the "GT" models; but no one bothered with the base models. So - parts they made ZILLIONS of got thrown away/replaced, as "who wants those?" Numerous cheap copies, so you have to sift through parts. Many will buy one and say "Oh, all the Guards (I am Australian - fenders to you?), tank, etc etc are all stuffed, but I'll just buy new ones." Then buy "new" ones - that when they are arrive are worse than your old ones. Then shell out zillions for "good" new ones - OR pay even more to get old ones fixed, as unavailable.
      Have a look at "Draganfly" site just to get an idea of how many different guards there are, how much - and even worse - how many "unavailable". I am not promoting them - there are LOTS of good sites, but I find DF to have a very good site layout/spares lists.
      I have had to become my own "spares boffin" - as so many selling the "wrong" parts. Learn to read the spares lists, they are available, and it will help you.
      Then you will want to buy one as complete as possible.
      I hope that helps.
      Cheers;
      :-)
