Fun reaction. Glad you like that song. Cool that you called out the 1990's influence. To me, that's also apparent with what appears as a massive shout out to Hole's 1990's "Doll Parts" MV. Both videos alternate between color and black/white. Both videos feature someone petting a doll's head, and include a young person who is not in the band who portrays an unidentified character. Courtney Love throws flowers, so the girl in "Dice" tosses flower petals. Paint is peeling in Courtney's room, while a cement pillar near MISA is chipped. Not trivial, as Band-Maid later included that chipped pillar in its "Unleash!" MV.
From Japan. This song, which calls on a girl who is blindfolded and holding a doll in the dark, afraid of the outside world, to stand up and go outside, even though it cannot promise that the outside world is good, seems to have a meaning of returning to the start with the ending. The girl takes off her blindfold and starts walking in the light. This is the start.
6:40 The mixing is not great there, but on the other hand, The Barefoot Assassin needs to slide in from under cover to have the intended impact. I think it was intentional. If you listen carefully, the guitars not only fade down, but the bass line fades up in volume until about beat 6. They also employ this technique of gradually dropping out instruments one by one in the leadin to MISA bass solo in Hate? live
This is the song that introduced me to them, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love the Guns N’ Roses “You Could Be Mine” vibes in the intro. No wonder they got asked to open for them in Japan. Band-Maid are the best band on the planet. They seriously do not have a single bad song. Just some you might like more than others. They are pure songwriting geniuses. I’m an 80s guy in his 50s and grew up on Guns n Roses, Ozzy , Crǔe, Metallica, Aerosmith, Skid Row and these 5 ladies from Japan impressed me way more than those bands ever did.
Playing out the end gives them some more options. They’re first and foremost a live band, so they have to think about inter-song dynamics and transitions, and what time they have to move the members around, etc. e.g. if you watch the official live performance of Hate?, at Yokohama Arena, they kind of keep the drums going to buy the members time to regroup on the main stage. Also, for this song in particular, they did a drum transition between Dice and Hate during their 10th anniversary tour (there’s a video of this at Lollapalooza) that wouldn’t work with a sharp vocal stop.
9:33 Everyone has an opinion. I can see your point, but this is a very smart device Mincho tends to use to reengage the listener. I would be more apt to want to hear a song again immediately if at the end, I hear the beginning.
Nice guitar intro…hopefully Kanami will influence your guitar style. Always interesting to hear what other guitarists say about Kanami’s style. She is not as concerned about showing her shredding abilities but making the song interesting to listen to. She’s one humble guitarist whom always has a goal in mind. Live this song hits harder than the studio version and MISA is in her groove! 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
I like their ending 'cause it redoes the more rocky less popy part of the song - allowing Kanami to do a strong ending 😁 And yeah, sometimes one does have to listen a bit for the start of Misa time 🎵
Kanami really uses the pentatonic scale a lot. I need to practice that hard. I used to think their song "Price of Pride" started with feedback but I'm not sure now. Anyway she throws in some cool pinch notes throughout. "Reincarnation" has a pretty cool abrupt ending. And I think the song "HATE?" was third followed by "Goin' Chow" LOL
Interesting and insightful thoughts, an enjoyable and informative analysis of a great track. I noticed you are wary of copyright strikes, but the 'White Room' instrumentals are really worthy of analysis, privately or publically. Especially where the screen is split into four to show each member playing. Onset and Without Holding Back are great instrumentals but the others are possibly more worthy of reactions. This is because Sense, Dice, No God, Domination etc as performed in the 'White Room' are not instrumentals, but are the finished track with the vocals removed. It is so revealing and amazing to hear what is going on behind the vocals. To me, the most amazing is Giovanni. I listen to the instrumental and think it's great but 'how is it possible to fit vocals over that backing without any instrumental cues or chords sequence to follow?' Then I listen to the album track and realise it was possible! The Maids are truly amazing. 'Play' is intriguing in another way. It was composed as an instrumental but Saiki loved it, asked Miku to write lyrics, and it became a vocal track! Keep up the good work!
I would really like to hear your take on "Puzzle". I consider this song to be a masterpiece and one of their very best. There's a live version on their official channel. There's also a live acoustic version floating out there with just Saiki on vocal and Kanami on guitar.
i don't agree with your suggested alterations but I enjoy your insights anyway, much more interesting than a plain old nod yer head'n'grin reaction, subbed. Have a listen to some Asterism, I suggest "Dawn", you probably won't get so many hits but they are fun to listen to.

Great analysis, no surprise, you obviously know your stuff. Clearly that was a deliberate choice to let the power chords ring out before the bass solo. Might not be to your taste, but I find the emergence of the bass from underneath to be a pretty cool dynamic. To each their own, though!
Great breakdown. Always great to have another person's opinion Music is subjective, so to each their own. For me I like the outro...but I guess I tend to like the beginning coming back at the end for continuity and closure. Many of the Maids songs do that. I think you also see for the stuff they wrote, the first and second verses are always different, which, IMHO, is what keeps the listener engaged. PO! 🕊 🤘😆🤘

This song is probably the most analysed musically and compositionally of Band-Maid's. For example, check out Justin Hawkins of The Darkness' analysis, where he equates the drum riff to GnR's "You Could Be Mine," and the guitar riff to AC/DCs "Big Guns."
I like your thoughts on what you did differently. But I disagree to all of them 😅 About the Guitar ringing over the Bass solo my thougts are that they often work with basically interrupting eachother elegantly. The song is always first and not so much the ability to shine for everyone. And I do like the sound of the guitar ringing over the bass. And also the outro is my favorite part of the whole song actually with Akane switching the drumming up and the riff roaring fiercly. But I am not too much of a singing enjoyer in the first place. The way you expressed your thoughts really respectfully and well reasoned makes your video worthwhile in any case.
Oh, we all know ;) . The creepy doll video as it is known to some ;) . I appreciate a good analysis but to actually pick up an instrument and learn part of the song ... bravo! Akane and MISA MISA MISA were schoolmates and played together in a band known as BECKY. Akane brought MISA along to join BAND MAID and they are always in lockstep. The reason MISA does not wear shoes on stage is so that she can feel Akane play and never loses the beat.
