Yeah, more detail doesn't always mean better. The more subtle and complex shapes you add, the more it's going to look out of place in a Lego setting. I mean, the body of a minifigure is shaped like a trapezoid. Putting that next to an intricately shaped gator head, it's gonna look a little weird. The classic gator was a good balance between looking like Lego and being recognizable as the right animal, without looking like a generic toy gator. Redesigning these old moulds isn't a bad thing, but I think they went a bit too far. However, I do like how much room is in the new gator's mouth. You can put a lot of different things in there.
The old crocs were very good, like the old sharks. There is something about the basic shapes that makes them work exceptionally well, unlike the monkey mold from the pirates theme. I do have to say, the new crocs have a slightly better comedic value, they seem to 'grin' a little, which I noticed is awesome to make jokes with for little children, ... or large adults on occasion.
@@jk0345 Exactly! Some species of caiman look far simpler and less 'evolved' than more modern looking crocodiles and gators. Just like you have cormorants existing alongside regular 'modern' birds. I have been really enjoying the new animals LEGO has been producing, but it REALLY makes me want a new Capybara (that isn't in the minidoll style), and I hope eventually we'll get some form of a safari-themed wave of sets to get that!

The vehicle is a bit small, but I think with only a few pieces you can make it more substantial. The red panda though, that is by far the cutest of the whole range 👌
So the interset connection thing is interesting. Not because it's a complex or super useful feature, but rather because of how we see it across themes as some kinda standard modular nature system. Avatar sets and the most recent Harry Potter dark forest sets comes to mind. However, looking closer at the avatar sets, it seems like the clip-and-bar connection on those are one plate higher than the Harry Potter ones. I guess Lego had not fully settled on a standard yet at the time of the avatar sets. Are these connections found in other recent sets? Or maybe even some old sets, the same way 80s castles are compatible with Harry Potter castle segments from 2020.
Definitely thought of Harry Potter right away too. The system is relatively new, since the clip pieces themselves are rather recent. Curious to see if anyone knows of other compatible examples though!
@@CheeseyStudios That would be swell! I also could've seen it fitting for the Animal Rescue line from a few years ago, which already had some great choices for animals
Not related to city, but… For your Minecraft display, i reccomend using the red creeper from the small minecraft set (i don’t know the name) and a CMF figure foot piece that puts them at an angle to make it look the the creeper is dying while being hit by a player.
Definatley the tiger.... but the gorilla is a close 2nd... perhaps it is only arm articulation that makes it slightly less so.... BTW can you use your LEGO contacts to whisper in their ear to add a wild boar to the Ideas Wolf pack castle? That would be sweet....
@@CheeseyStudios Yay! I know a wolf seems like a natural inclusion, but I think them hunting a wild boar would actually be cooler and less cliche, and then a wolf mold could be made for a Forestmans set antagonist! We need a whole forest of animals...

Right? It's such a cool lineup!
The eagle would still be good to rerelease since we havent had it since its debut in 2018 in the People Pack
Oh dang, has it been that long? Maybe there'll be a surprise set still, like that one City space set!
@@CheeseyStudios That would be swell! I also could've seen it fitting for the Animal Rescue line from a few years ago, which already had some great choices for animals
I love this series
I'm honestly so happy I was able to make another one of these videos. Gotta love the cute plastic shapes!
As a LEGO animal collector, I'm looking forward to all of them!
LEGO animals are just delightful!
They sure are!
Always the polybag but getting the water plane for the gators alone.
Yessss fellow reptile enjoyer
I would want the alligator set
That's a good one! Gotta love some reptiles
After all these years Lego finally paid homage to Harambe
about time smh
Not related to city, but… For your Minecraft display, i reccomend using the red creeper from the small minecraft set (i don’t know the name) and a CMF figure foot piece that puts them at an angle to make it look the the creeper is dying while being hit by a player.
Stay tuned for the next episode, coming very soon 👀
That ain't Johnny Thunder, that's Jim Rain.
lol you not wrong
I love the tiger. I was so annoyed to see the original one be a weird yellow.
That shocked me too! I wonder what the internal discussions were like surrounding that
Definatley the tiger.... but the gorilla is a close 2nd... perhaps it is only arm articulation that makes it slightly less so.... BTW can you use your LEGO contacts to whisper in their ear to add a wild boar to the Ideas Wolf pack castle? That would be sweet....
I'll let the powers that be know 👌👌👌
@@CheeseyStudios Yay! I know a wolf seems like a natural inclusion, but I think them hunting a wild boar would actually be cooler and less cliche, and then a wolf mold could be made for a Forestmans set antagonist! We need a whole forest of animals...
Man, the red panda is so cute
Right? Love getting that in the $11 set too!
nice thumbnail 😊
Thank you!
You don’t understand how much watching this video has helped me today.
Can you provide a source for the quote from Nik Pauwels about the gators, please? :)

I think these sets are priced much better than the other city sets to be honest
I noticed that too. I wonder how they dream up those prices
Johnny Thunder found the secrets of immortality
So that's what he was looking for all this time...
I need that 🐅
He looks so beautiful!
I am going to get the animals separately on Pick a Brick and want Lego to add dinosaurs to pick a brick
That's too bad that they don't add the dinos. I bet they'd be crazy expensive though 😭
