Thank you thank you thank you! A mechanical tell me this regulator cost 200$ a piece (no motor included) + 150$ labor. After watch your video , I bought the regulator for 40$ and replace it in like 30 minutes. Thank you!
Great video with excellent attention to detail start to finish. I especially appreciate the time you took to show the small clip and exactly how it was installed.
I got the front door panel off and couldn't see what I needed to see. Wasn't sure how it come apart never had a jeep grand Cherokee before. Video helped immensely dude. Thanks for being there for a guy. 🔧🪛
A big THANK YOU! I've dreaded trying to replace this regulator and have lived with my window propped up with vise grips for all these years. Your video was straight forward, didn't take me long at all!
I really appreciate this video. I accidentally bumped the button while the windows was frozen over back in March 2022, took panel off and found pieces in the bottom of the door. This video told me exactly what I needed to get, and how to install it. Thank you!
The procedure is the same 1999-2004, however the regulator itself for 2001-2004 has a different motor mounting bracket (no bolts installed) than the one shown here (1999-2000). Thanks for the great instruction.
You rock!! What a great video. I am a makeup artist and due to your amazing video was just able to replace the window regulator in my 2001 Jeep. Thank you. So helpful!!
Thanks man, great video, I needed to fix my driver side assembly since the cable broke and went so smooth I fixed the passenger side, which was stuck closed, too:-)
Only thing I would’ve done differently is check to see if the new motor worked before doing all that to go back and redo it again. But excellent guide I can send this to my son instead of explaining it. Thanks
The point with a three bowls in the motor, is to put them in there before you put it into the door that way all you have to do is push it up and slide it on. Get some visqueen or plastic or something and make a new Vapor Barrier otherwise it's going to damage the switches on your door. That moisture gets to it and they're going to start to deteriorate. That vapor barriers there for a reason. You also forgot to put some extra lube on that mechanism and on the door rails so that you don't have that problem again. Gives me enough information to do this job for my vehicle, but I've done them on a lot of other vehicles.
ps, another fix is too take off door panel, locate electric motor in regulator, then press remote button up while you bang on the motor with hammer, often will un-stick the motor and voila you have fixed it
I took off the panel and undid the wiring and all that and now none of my windows go up and down. Did I cause a short? Could it be just a bad fuse? I didn't think all four of the windows were wired together
If you have one window unplugged the other windows may not work because the circuit is not complete. All four windows are on one fuse under the dash board. I would make sure your wiring is plugged back in tightly and then I would check the fuse box. Good luck.
FastestIntegra whew that's a relief to hear. I was checking the fuse boxes but I couldn't find a specific fuse for the windows. Thanks for replying so quickly 🙏🏻 I'm gonna drop a sub
Thanks for the tip on removing the speakers to gain more access. I can understand not wanting to remove the glass. I think removing the the glass will take about the time it's going to take to clean the duct tap residue off and you run the risk of damaging the paint, Witch would cost a lot more then a new junkyard window would.
It's not a water barrier it's just a sound dampener. Do not worry about getting any water there at most it's just going to protect from dust and sound. If you really want to replace it I recommend going down to the Jeep dealer and try to order a new one.
FastestIntegra thanks for your reply. I ended up drilling new holes into the door to get the motor to fit. It turned out good, the window rolls up and down now. Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you.
CRITICAL ISSUE: BE SURE when you're ordering your window regulator that you note the manufacture date of your vehicle because parts manufactured BEFORE 03-09-2000 are DIFFERENT than parts manufactured AFTER 03-09-2000, at least as it relates to window regulators, and WILL NOT fit across those dates due to the difference in the window motor mount configuration (found out the HARD WAY!!! Grrrrrr!). The manufacture date is on the upper left-hand side of the label on the inside of the passenger door. DO NOT let anyone tell you that parts from one year of Jeep Grand Cherokees, 1999-2004, will fit any other year, 1999-2004, because it's just not true! Been there done that!!! If I was a bit more crafty, I might have been able to jerry-rig the part I bought, but I'm just not that good at that kind of stuff! LOL Aloha
Hello I ran into the same problem with difference lining up the regulator. Can you please tell me where you bought the correct regulator.. I would appreciate it..
You heard some noises when you pressed the window buttons. Wouldn't that indicate: a) the window switches were working? b) the motor was working? c) but the regulator was bad? It's $50 for the regulator and $50 more for the motor. Plus, most auto stores stock the regulators but you have to order (and wait 3 - 5 business days) for the motor unit. How often do motors wear out? I believe in most cases the culprit is the regulator which is flimsily constructed with the cables fraying/snapping over time.
Yes to A, and C. The motor can be bad and still make noise. Most of the units I've seen are sold as one peace, regulator and motor. It was about $75 in stock. They should last years. I think most all the regulators I've replaced was because of bad cables and or old plastic pieces.
@@FastestIntegra I looked up the part to purchase on AdvanceAuto.com. Luckily, I found a unit that bundled the motor with the regulator that was in stock. Plus, by purchasing online through their site, I got to use a 25% coupon, bringing my total to $85 versus $107. Unfortunately, I had to tape up my window because it became bitter cold outside (mid-20s) and I have to work the rest of the week. Oh, helpful tip: these windows are very heavy and duct tape won't likely hold them in place. The solution is to use a curved fork which you jam vigorously on the inside. This makes a perfect wedge and will likely keep your window from dropping while hitting any bumps in the road. Use fresh duct tape, and not the cheap kind as this will have better adhesive property. And the thicker the plastic the better. Start with black Hefty bags and work up to an old shower curtain if necessary.
It takes 30 minutes after watching this video. If you can't mentally, and physically deal with that, you shouldn't even own a car. I want to add that the entire unit costed me 38 bucks. Definity not worth selling your car. But I have more sense than money.
I just replaced my regigulators and motors and I am still laughing ! You aren't going to finish this in 30 minutes. It takes that long to get all the right tools and work area setup.
Nevermind. I fixed it all up now with the right part lol. My 2000 cherokee was manufactured may 2000, so my part number was 741-552 for the front driver side door window regulator with motor. Just FYI, if your 2000 cherokee was made March 2000 or before, then that part number should be 741-556 for the front driver side window regulator with motor. Thank you for the video. It was an easy fix and took a half hour. 😊
I just spent 4 hours installing mine. I was successful but I sure as hell wish I would have found this video first.
This video needs to stay at the top of the list. Perfect instructions. Thank you.
I paid 40 $ for this part on Amazon. A local shop wanted 387$ for this repair!!!!
Bro, you da man !!! Thanks Man....
Thank you! Successfully changed out my window motor due to this video. Took just over half an hour.
Thank you thank you thank you!

Yeah I was confused by this as well
I've watched 3 or 4 videos and this one was the best. Thanks!
Very well put together. Thanks for the extra tip about the one bolt. Nice job!
Thanks a ton for your video. This is the 1st time I've ever done this and because of your video, I was literally done in 30 min...THANK YOU!

Thanx 4 the info brah. my 02' frt passenger regulator was bad everything went well, thanx again.
Cuz of your video I was able to figure this out, thanks!! 👍
One note, a stupid cheap plastic clip that holds the end of the cable broke, which caused the entire system to fail
Excellent tutorial thank you!! 👌🏼

Very cool, thx for posting. Maybe test the unit before banging that panel back in?
and maybe find something to replace the water barrier

ps, another fix is too take off door panel, locate electric motor in regulator, then press remote button up while you bang on the motor with hammer, often will un-stick the motor and voila you have fixed it
That may work for a stuck motor, but not for the broken plastic piece that is the usual culprit.

I couldn't get my glass to come out,I had to have my son hold it up while I put the new one in.
It could work on the passenger door right or just the driver side and what’s the name of the replacement?

The driver's side back seat window can go up but will not go down... Do you have any idea what the solution would be
Gunked up clogged dirty window tracks and or a bad window regulator
Gonna try this today. Tysm!
Great video. I'm about to replace mine.
This was so helpful. Thank you so much

no need to take window out just tap it at the top with some duct tap. remove speaker for better access to pins if window in different location

I used masking/painters tape - no residue and held the window just fine
I wedged a doorstopper between window and trim. Lol It stayed up to finish the job and while driving to the parts store.😉
cool, gonna try this out this weekend. which regulator did you pick by the way?
Won't water get inside w/o that water barrier back on? Anyone know where to purchase so I can cut to fit? Mine was brittle as well. Awesome vid! Ty.

What part did you use? I just bought a regulator with motor from auto store and it doesn’t fit. I have the exact vehicle that’s in your video.
There is a mid year change in 2000. You need to check the month your Grand Cherokee was produced to get the right window regulator.
FastestIntegra thanks for your reply. I ended up drilling new holes into the door to get the motor to fit. It turned out good, the window rolls up and down now. Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you.

What size hex or Alan wrench? Are we standard or metric?
i've put close to 200k miles on my WJ and it is now on its FIFTH regulator. THREE on the drivers door
Great video thanks !
Where did you find a regulator that fits. I cannot find one with the correct bolt pattern?

I did everything, however the window won't go up evenly. The back side moves faster than the front. Any idea why this might be?
May be a dirty window track making it stick.
Make sure the window is properly in the track
