The story mentions he was freed from jail around 2021-22, which, may coincide with the possible 15 year jail time he had to serve. Mostly, because Most Wanted is from late 2005, and the game implies its story takes place during june to november 2005 because of the autumn-ish setting. Also, dont forget that Rockport is extremely inspired from New York, and NY isn't that far from Chicago, Unbound city's inspiration, Lakeshore City.

But the significance of cross having a very small cameo in there leads to tell me that he is still hunting for player and heard of his where abouts in fortune valley. Which i think is interesting because ventura bay takes place in California and as far as i know, nfs(2015) is the most recent sighting of "player" and has been making his way back to rockport i think there has been significant signs that there is gonna be a most wanted 2

Another good theory is that when the NFS Heat Protagonist got the BMW M3 GTR at the end of NFS Heat after taking down Frank Mercer, the protagonist eventually learned about the cars reputation, how much heat it really has and how notorious the car is with the cops and street racing, especially after what happened in Rockport in MW 05. So then the NFS Heat protagonist would have decided to ditch the car somewhere because keeping it would not be worth it, I guess it would have been a hassle for them. Hence, they drove to Lakeshore and ditched the car in that industrial area.. or perhaps they got someone else to do the job for them. It would have been left there for some time and during that time somebody would have found out that the car is in Lakeshore and then the information was passed along to other street racers and also Razor himself. What i wrote is the most plausible answer which can make sense. Think about it for a minute. Be warned, it's a big text. The reason why the BMW M3 E46 GTR was added in Palm City and Lakeshore is just for the nostalgia factor, as a cameo and a reference to the past. It's only for the Fan Service, Plain and Simple. Even the specific delivery mission of the BMW M3 E46 GTR explains it very well. - Here's an explanation The delivery mission about the BMW M3 E46 GTR is a reference to the Player from NFS MW and NFS Carbon, not Razor. Since the protagonist of NFS MW and NFS Carbon had beaten Razor, he's no longer Blacklist N°1 but the protagonist himself which has also retrieved his car and had become the Most Wanted at the same time. When Yaz talks about "Some guy was released from jail and the first thing he wanted was his car", she talks about the Player since Razor wasn't in jail at this moment. The Player from NFS MW/NFS Carbon was in jail because Razor cheated by sabotaging his car with his accomplices in the 1vs1 Duel race. His primary objective from the beginning was to steal the Player's BMW M3 E46 GTR in order to increase his Blacklist rank to the top. After the Player was released from jail, his objective is to get his car back by beating all the blacklist members and face Razor again. When the Player won the race against Razor, Mia reveals herself as a cop and arrest Razor. Then, Mia gives the BMW M3 E46 GTR keys to the Player in order to flee the cops. It was his last appearance, then we don't know his fate. Afterwards, Nikki joins your crew and betrays Darius too since Darius also betrayed you and Nikki in the past. You flee Palmonty City and go to Rockport by his fault. To simplify, all the events which happened in the 2 games is because of Darius and his malicious deeds. If the street race against the 3 bosses happened very well and the cops didn't showed up, you'll had won the race along with the money reward in a red bag while staying in Palmont City. In fact, at the ending of NFS Carbon, the protagonist uses the Audi Le Mans Quattro of Darius as a replacement since his BMW M3 E46 GTR was totaled by Cross. Maybe we are looking too far into it, but it's still fun to think about it. Also if we are discussing about the M3 GTR’s lore we should consider the NFS Most Wanted 2 cancelled alpha builds of the game as our basis for lore and not the games we got. the cancelled MW2 even in alpha stages has at least thee beginnings of the story and an absolute oral confirmation that this is the MW2005, carbon player(the voice line is, “Driver is suspected to be the ROCKPORT fugitive. Driver remains MOST WANTTED” and the “For the last seven years, three months, 27 hours, 35 minutes, 26 seconds, I’ve been running”).Those version most probably used the M3 for a storyline because in alpha earlier version, the M3 does not use the vehicle weapons or “tech” as its called in game. Later versions as its said that ea wanted a the game to release quicker forced or caused a change in game design to just a online multiplayer sort of game, the weapons also appeared on m3, the weapons were given to the m3 but story persisted in some versions.Also another thing to note, I have heard that the reason we do not get our M3 GTR in carbon was because of time constraints on blackbox’s end and the getting back of M3 was cut content(not sure how true is this). In the most wanted 2 betas and alphas, the player is driving a silver E92 M3, that means the player never got their M3 back if we consider the dev versions. According to some files in the builds and other info we were supposed to have our M3 return due to some unknown guy, who is theorised to be Cross and giving us our car back for some reasons were we might have to work for him. Before I start this needs to be said, the M3 GTR is most probably NOT the le mans BMW M3 GTR and probably a replica because the engine ( will talk about this in point 2) BMW P60B40 was had a simpler road going version that is obtainable by normal people. BMW did put this engine in the M3 GTR Straßen Version (street version) but there are only 10 in the whole world). Now this is what I think what happened to our M3 GTR (there is a lot of speculation in there, but this is my head canon so bear with me): 1.Now the story of GTR starts before nfs mw 2005. Carbon(past), we were in a blue and white Toyota supra that darius gave us to race. We ran from palmount when darius set us up to get us out of palmount. Nothing much here. 2.NFS Prostreet: we while running end up at NFS Prostreet place, this is confirmed or it’s at least and easter egg because while in raceday menu of super promotion event, there is a voice line about a blue car(not said to be a supra in game) with the number plate NFS CARBN(nfs carbon’s license plate) being parked right in front of super promotion’s tent (basically the supra is ditched at super promotion event). It seems like the player might have diched the supra at the event as it might pass of as a car there for event and might camouflage him( its shaky but it might be possible), who knows it might even be damaged or totaled inside. Now what I think is the M3 GTR was either bought or stolen from the event that the player between nfs prostreet and rockport modified and raced around. Maybe the supra was sold to get a wrecked M3 GTR replica from some event racer or was sold to buy the P60B40 from someone(this is very unlikely but maybe the nfs universe had a load of these street versions). tl:dr player either sold or abandon the blue nfs carbon supra to either buy, steal or buy the parts for the M3(the stealing part seems the most probable). 3.NFS MW 2005:we arrive at rockport, we saw how that goes. I am not considering razor making our car faster by modifying it because the slower M3 is probably meant to be easier to for new players and not indicative of its true performance( I think I heard this in an interview on lpripper24’s channel).still if we want to speculate maybe the M3 uses a civilian BMW V8 modified to hell and back and that’s how Razor made our car faster, because how will he get parts to modify a race engine( or again P60B40 is rare but not unattainable). We win it back again and run from rockport. 4.NFS Carbon: we go to palmount and we wrecked our M3 GTR, now according to the game M3 is totaled (falling pipes may damage the chassis and suspension but killing the car does not seem possible but we can excuse it as game logic). The car is sold away never to be seen again. we finish the palmount story and at some point inn time leave palmount in an E92 M3. Now the reason player might had to run was because of his bounty. The police presence maybe got to overpowering or maybe his garage was raided, basically he lost everything and ran in the E92 M3 and kept running for seven years, three months, 27 hours, 35 minutes, 26 seconds. The voiceline in nfs mw 2 kind of hints to it(“They say when you are a wanted man, you never have anything in your life you couldn’t drop and leave in a moment. No roots, no job, no family no bank account”). 3.NFS MW2: Here things get interesting, gets a call from someone after we escape the GPMM Chase to give us a job because they have a lojack installed on our car that someone we know installed. Now this could most probably Cross which is most probable but there is a chance that this also might be Darius but we cannot say anything as the builds never went that far. We cannot say what happens in the game but some things are sure, we were supposed to get our original M3 was supposed to return, and we would have gotten it back. Now what I think what happens is that in the end we are either caught or escape but one we lose our M3 again. The one to bust us is either Cross or Mercer with Cross working as an informant. Now due to either busting us or at least helping in getting our car to police Cross will be reinstated into police for the NFS payback easter egg to happen. 4.NFS no limits: I hate this game but for lore we will consider it. The event had us an M3 given to us to modify and race to encourage the racer spirit or something that part is not important. But what is important is that its said that the guy went to a lot of racers before us, that means there are multiple M3 GTR replica bodykits manufactured. I think this guy might be Sgt. Mercer from nfs heat earlier in his career. After MW2 he somehow got tour M3 GTR out of impound and use it to create those replica body kits, while he kept the real car. Mercer would go around giving notorious racers a normal M3 with the GTR bodykit to raise hell and become a bigger problem for the police departments of those cities (the bodykits would probably be notorious in street racing community and no racer would let go of the chance to get that kit). Now mercer would coordinate and manage a police response against the street racers maybe once in a while catching the guy who he gave the cars to(maybe the ones who got caught in the event). This basically helped him climb the administrative ladder and later put in charge of the PD of a whole city. Note: any M3 GTR that does not have the real round and a v8 will be considered the fake and replica. NFS 2015 has a racer created replica of the mercer M3 bodykit that’s why it looks slightly weird. 5.NFS Payback: not much cross is back and gone. Another mercer M3 replica. 6.NFS Heat: Now this might be the Real M3 GTR that we got, either he was going to sell it or kept it for himself. And we get it. Its weird that nobody even knows the M3 GTR or the most wanted in game anymore, not really sure why even though in unbound it says that there is a lot of heat on it. So heres my theory, yes the palm city racer is from outta town and i do believe that the racer have found out the significance of this car and i believe razor was in jail at fort callahan which i think is a bit of a stretch but i think just like player ran with the car. In mobile game NFS, there's a event story to get BMW M3 GTR and also Razor is in there too and he tried to use us again to make him top again but failed again because we beat him again and he already back to prison again and now we have BMW M3 GTR. im pretty sure the car had 2 seats in most wanted we see a few interior shots which would be considered canon, I know its a "race car" in the sense its based on a le man car however the m3 gtr exists as a street legal vehicle too and likely player just got a le man body kit and just built it up liek the le man car its based on.

But the significance of cross having a very small cameo in there leads to tell me that he is still hunting for player and heard of his where abouts in fortune valley. Another good theory is that when the NFS Heat Protagonist got the BMW M3 GTR at the end of NFS Heat after taking down Frank Mercer, the protagonist eventually learned about the cars reputation, how much heat it really has and how notorious the car is with the cops and street racing, especially after what happened in Rockport in MW 05. So then the NFS Heat protagonist would have decided to ditch the car somewhere because keeping it would not be worth it, I guess it would have been a hassle for them.
Hence, they drove to Lakeshore and ditched the car in that industrial area.. or perhaps they got someone else to do the job for them. It would have been left there for some time and during that time somebody would have found out that the car is in Lakeshore and then the information was passed along to other street racers and also Razor himself. Then after he got out of jail, the first thing he wanted was that car

Since the protagonist of NFS MW and NFS Carbon had beaten Razor, he's no longer Blacklist N°1 but the protagonist himself which has also retrieved his car and had become the Most Wanted at the same time.
When Yaz talks about "Some guy was released from jail and the first thing he wanted was his car", she talks about the Player since Razor wasn't in jail at this moment.
The Player from NFS MW/NFS Carbon was in jail because Razor cheated by sabotaging his car with his accomplices in the 1vs1 Duel race. His primary objective from the beginning was to steal the Player's BMW M3 E46 GTR in order to increase his Blacklist rank to the top.
After the Player was released from jail, his objective is to get his car back by beating all the blacklist members and face Razor again.
When the Player won the race against Razor, Mia reveals herself as a cop and arrest Razor.
Then, Mia gives the BMW M3 E46 GTR keys to the Player in order to flee the cops.
Cross arrives at the scene and ask where is the Player which is yourself. And after that, he says his famous line "EVERYONE".

Maybe we are looking too far into it, but it's still fun to think about it. Also if we are discussing about the M3 GTR’s lore we should consider the NFS Most Wanted 2 cancelled alpha builds of the game as our basis for lore and not the games we got. the cancelled MW2 even in alpha stages has at least thee beginnings of the story and an absolute oral confirmation that this is the MW2005, carbon player(the voice line is, “Driver is suspected to be the ROCKPORT fugitive. Driver remains MOST WANTTED” and the “For the last seven years, three months, 27 hours, 35 minutes, 26 seconds, I’ve been running”).Those version most probably used the M3 for a storyline because in alpha earlier version, the M3 does not use the vehicle weapons or “tech” as its called in game. Later versions as its said that ea wanted a the game to release quicker forced or caused a change in game design to just a online multiplayer sort of game, the weapons also appeared on m3, the weapons were given to the m3 but story persisted in some versions.Also another thing to note, I have heard that the reason we do not get our M3 GTR in carbon was because of time constraints on blackbox’s end and the getting back of M3 was cut content(not sure how true is this). In the most wanted 2 betas and alphas, the player is driving a silver E92 M3, that means the player never got their M3 back if we consider the dev versions. According to some files in the builds and other info we were supposed to have our M3 return due to some unknown guy, who is theorised to be Cross and giving us our car back for some reasons were we might have to work for him. Before I start this needs to be said, the M3 GTR is most probably NOT the le mans BMW M3 GTR and probably a replica because the engine ( will talk about this in point 2) BMW P60B40 was had a simpler road going version that is obtainable by normal people. BMW did put this engine in the M3 GTR Straßen Version (street version) but there are only 10 in the whole world).
Now this is what I think what happened to our M3 GTR (there is a lot of speculation in there, but this is my head canon so bear with me):
1.Now the story of GTR starts before nfs mw 2005. Carbon(past), we were in a blue and white Toyota supra that darius gave us to race. We ran from palmount when darius set us up to get us out of palmount. Nothing much here.
2.NFS Prostreet: we while running end up at NFS Prostreet place, this is confirmed or it’s at least and easter egg because while in raceday menu of super promotion event, there is a voice line about a blue car(not said to be a supra in game) with the number plate NFS CARBN(nfs carbon’s license plate) being parked right in front of super promotion’s tent (basically the supra is ditched at super promotion event). It seems like the player might have diched the supra at the event as it might pass of as a car there for event and might camouflage him( its shaky but it might be possible), who knows it might even be damaged or totaled inside. Now what I think is the M3 GTR was either bought or stolen from the event that the player between nfs prostreet and rockport modified and raced around. Maybe the supra was sold to get a wrecked M3 GTR replica from some event racer or was sold to buy the P60B40 from someone(this is very unlikely but maybe the nfs universe had a load of these street versions). tl:dr player either sold or abandon the blue nfs carbon supra to either buy, steal or buy the parts for the M3(the stealing part seems the most probable).
3.NFS MW 2005:we arrive at rockport, we saw how that goes. I am not considering razor making our car faster by modifying it because the slower M3 is probably meant to be easier to for new players and not indicative of its true performance( I think I heard this in an interview on lpripper24’s channel).still if we want to speculate maybe the M3 uses a civilian BMW V8 modified to hell and back and that’s how Razor made our car faster, because how will he get parts to modify a race engine( or again P60B40 is rare but not unattainable). We win it back again and run from rockport.
4.NFS Carbon: we go to palmount and we wrecked our M3 GTR, now according to the game M3 is totaled (falling pipes may damage the chassis and suspension but killing the car does not seem possible but we can excuse it as game logic). The car is sold away never to be seen again. we finish the palmount story and at some point inn time leave palmount in an E92 M3. Now the reason player might had to run was because of his bounty. The police presence maybe got to overpowering or maybe his garage was raided, basically he lost everything and ran in the E92 M3 and kept running for seven years, three months, 27 hours, 35 minutes, 26 seconds. The voiceline in nfs mw 2 kind of hints to it(“They say when you are a wanted man, you never have anything in your life you couldn’t drop and leave in a moment. No roots, no job, no family no bank account”).
3.NFS MW2: Here things get interesting, gets a call from someone after we escape the GPMM Chase to give us a job because they have a lojack installed on our car that someone we know installed. Now this could most probably Cross which is most probable but there is a chance that this also might be Darius but we cannot say anything as the builds never went that far. We cannot say what happens in the game but some things are sure, we were supposed to get our original M3 was supposed to return, and we would have gotten it back. Now what I think what happens is that in the end we are either caught or escape but one we lose our M3 again. The one to bust us is either Cross or Mercer with Cross working as an informant. Now due to either busting us or at least helping in getting our car to police Cross will be reinstated into police for the NFS payback easter egg to happen.
4.NFS no limits: I hate this game but for lore we will consider it. The event had us an M3 given to us to modify and race to encourage the racer spirit or something that part is not important. But what is important is that its said that the guy went to a lot of racers before us, that means there are multiple M3 GTR replica bodykits manufactured. I think this guy might be Sgt. Mercer from nfs heat earlier in his career. After MW2 he somehow got tour M3 GTR out of impound and use it to create those replica body kits, while he kept the real car. Mercer would go around giving notorious racers a normal M3 with the GTR bodykit to raise hell and become a bigger problem for the police departments of those cities (the bodykits would probably be notorious in street racing community and no racer would let go of the chance to get that kit). Now mercer would coordinate and manage a police response against the street racers maybe once in a while catching the guy who he gave the cars to(maybe the ones who got caught in the event). This basically helped him climb the administrative ladder and later put in charge of the PD of a whole city.
Note: any M3 GTR that does not have the real round and a v8 will be considered the fake and replica. NFS 2015 has a racer created replica of the mercer M3 bodykit that’s why it looks slightly weird.
5.NFS Payback: not much cross is back and gone. Another mercer M3 replica.
6.NFS Heat: Now this might be the Real M3 GTR that we got, either he was going to sell it or kept it for himself. And we get it. Its weird that nobody even knows the M3 GTR or the most wanted in game anymore, not really sure why even though in unbound it says that there is a lot of heat on it. The car in unbound has decent amount of heat on it so that means the NFS mw player is still is out there with the bounty on his head.There is no way any league member will just give the car away, but anyway.
7.NFS Unbound: Now “the blacklist” is most probably Razor getting out of jail after he got arrested in nfs no limits, but the weird thing is why did the nfs heat player sold the car. Maybe the M3 was stolen because it was the M3. maybe the m3 was stolen by someone who was on razor's payroll so he could get the m3 back as soon as he gets out and from the guy who stole it to getting it to razor's hands.

I think this took place during most wanted's events which is why the M3 GTR is at lakeshore probably getting repaired after getting sabotaged or i could be wrong idk.

Nfs Theory
In this theory, Mia the undercover cop plays a big role. As she gets to know that razor is undefeatable in the players Bmw M3 GTR which he was not with his mustang, she finds out a lot about the bmw. She wanted one herself too. But the GTR was so rare, only 4 race car versions were made which were not street legal (which was the reason why player was about to get arrested by cross at the start of the game). She knew that it was impossible to get a GTR so she just got the M3 somehow when the player was in blacklist 2. She also got access to the GTR bodykits. But when the player jumps over the unfinished bridge, he would have been able to get on the other side, but he may have lost control and flipped over his legendary GTR. Mia had secretly installed a gps to the GTR in which she saw had stopped moving on the other side of the bridge. She got on the other side of the bridge by a secret route no one ever knew existed. Then Mia had seen the flipped car and wanted to help the player. So the M3 she had bought was modified as the original GTR. The car was bought to the other side of the bridge. But luck was not on the side of the GTR clone as it was seen by cross and was unknowingly followed. Cross got to know about the secret route and followed the M3. The real GTR was his somewhere near the bridge and the clone was given to player in which he drove away. This explains how cross followed player in nfs carbon. But now Mia had got her attention on the real GTR. She took it to the players safehouse. But she was unable to find any parts of the car as the car was so rare, spare parts were never made. So she left the project and abandoned the GTR. The GTR was famous at the time for the amount of heat it has created and many racers tried to make a replica of the original GTR. This was the reason why the M3 in the nfs carbon was way slower than the original GTR. So, all the appearances of the GTRs in the future nfs games were just clones. But if we remember, razor had fixed the GTR after it had an oil leak. So razor when released by jail, must have supplied the GTR spareparts to one of his men and ordered him to fix the car. Then comes the car in nfs unbound as a delivery mission. So I hope that it is the original, legendary M3 GTR that has arrived. And I hope this story will be used in a future nfs game. So heres my theory, yes the palm city racer is from outta town and i do believe that the racer have found out the significance of this car and i believe razor was in jail at fort callahan which i think is a bit of a stretch but i think just like player ran with the car. Or i believe when razor got out of jail, he ordered for the car to get stolen. He got into contact with one of the racers in palm city that knew the where abouts of the car. The car got stolen and razor heard about the race scene in lakeshore and had the car transported and delivered to him in lakeshore. And has for the story lore razor is in possession of the bmw and is coming back with a vengeance of whoever gets in his way. Or hes gonna hunt down player.
In mobile game NFS, there's a event story to get BMW M3 GTR and also Razor is in there too and he tried to use us again to make him top again but failed again because we beat him again and he already back to prison again and now we have BMW M3 GTR. In my theory in NFS unbound, we must deliver the BMW M3 GTR to Razor and find some top racers top list, in NFS Mobile we meet him again and we get the BMW M3 GTR from him and we can use that car what ever we want, until we beat all the mission story events. And that's my theory, if this still not clearly buy it's okay, I already did my best to understand
I don't count the mobile games as canon. Mobile games almost never count towards canon for anything. I only count the main titles, not spinoffs. That includes NFS World, Edge, No Limits, anything for the handhelds etc..

Didn't the main protag from NFS heat take the car at the end of the game so maybe after making it to the top he went to lakeshore to build a name for himself after the cops decided to to run out other racers
im pretty sure the car had 2 seats in most wanted we see a few interior shots which would be considered canon, I know its a "race car" in the sense its based on a le man car however the m3 gtr exists as a street legal vehicle too and likely player just got a le man body kit and just built it up liek the le man car its based on.

I honestly think that the most wanted. Is back in action. Think about it. Dude got his car stolen twice. In 2 different cities. After the events of carbon. Say he got caught by cross because cross was a bounty hunter last time we saw him. And was caught in lakeshore. No one to back him up this time. Forced into jail. I mean after 17 years of jail time. He would want that car back. It is the pride and joy of need for speed.
one issue the players bounty was paid by Darius at the start of Carbon so unless there was some hidden bounty that we didnt hear of then cross would have no reason to be searching for the most wanted again
