Thank you so much for this video. Now I feel confident about using the screen share option with my students. I used to screen record the audio clippings because usually the transcription and answers are there at the end of the video which I don’t want my students to see immediately. This way I can just play the video and stop it wherever I want and the student can see and listen with the help of this option. Thank you. Will it be easier to store files in OneNote in order to share the documents with my students?
Hi Russell, thank you so much for a very clear, well explained and useful video especially as I'm not very tech savvy. Is it possible to screen share and still see the person I am video calling?
Hi my name is Niki and I would like to know if I could screen share my screen with my class and simultaneously see my students so I can see their reactions. Thanks!
You can't do that in SKYPE,,,in fact that is generally hard and very heavy on internet as screen sharing and sharing CAMS can really. Even with something like Zoom, you can only see a liimited number of students when screen sharing
@@ttvRussell. Thank you very much for answering my question. Since I can't do this. I have an other question for you. My computer came without a camera. I got a camera and added it to my computer. Unfortunately it seems that it is mirroring me. Therefore if I show to my students numbers or letters they see them mirrored. This is most unfortunate because my students are really young and they are just about learning numbers and letters. Is there a way that I can change my camera so that it doesn't mirror what I show? Thank you in advance for your time. 🤔😊
Please reply With how many students can I screen share simultaneously and will that consume more and more internet data as the number of students increases?
Difficult to know, Paula, what's going wrong in your situation. There are options in Skype - settings - for audio - it might be to do with the microphone input - whether using a headset or not. Do check in the audio set up in Skype before making your call. Watch this part of another tutorial on using Skype about phoning someone: ruclips.net/video/tQpltHBztB0/видео.html
Hi. I am teaching a tarot class and need to see my students screen and both of our faces....Is there a simple way to do this? Thanks so much. Really helpful video.
That is difficult. I don't think you can do that in SKYPE as it stands but you could do that in Zoom. You can share the screen and share up to 5 people's faces at the same time.
Hi Russell, Thanks for your videos, I have just started teaching online and I find them very helpful! I just wanted to ask, is there a way to share just a portion of the screen? Say just a window and not the whole thing? Thanks again for the very informative videos!
When you screen share, you do get various options to share just one tab or just one window but you can't share a portion of a window. You can't actually do that with any of the webinar tools
Dear Russell, What camera are you using? The quality is good! my Asus laptop's camera is not good. Is there any chance to use my cell phone camera with my laptop?

Hi! Can you please tell me what can be done when the other person I'm trying to share my screen with just can' t see my screen? She can hear what I'm screensharing, but she can't see my screen.
I think you might not be doing it correctly. Remember you must choose the window you want to share and then choose share and then you need to minimize skype so that they can see what is on your screen and not see what is on your skype.
Thanks for the video. I've tried using screen share while also sharing the sound but it does not seem to work while watching videos. I was hoping to use RUclips with my students while on Skype. Am I doing something wrong?
If you share the sound, you are doing everything right. I can't understand why the users can't hear the sound. Mabye look into using Zoom, it is a free tool if you are using small classes.
Thanks. Great video... I have a Skype group of 11. One of them couldn't be added to the call. Another problem I had is that some of them are showed in small circles and just 4 of them are showed in equals sections on screen... Is there something I can do??? I'll appreciate some guidance... Thanks
Yes, with big groups it is a problem and I think it depends on the device they use to connect too. Have you thought of trying Zoom www.teachertrainingvideos.com/Zoom
Russell Stannard (Teacher Training Videos) First of all thank very very much for take of your time to answer. Yes I started using ZOOM this week and it definitely has some advantages. Even though I like the simplicity of skype and the video quality on my windows 10 hp, I have found some very interesting features using zoom. Zoom actually has good monthly offers too. I'd like Microsoft upgrades Skype to add some new features. Everything to promote social distancing with my friends. Thank you very much again. I really appreciate it.
Hi I'm a teaching coach and I work with teachers to help them improve their practice. At the moment we are looking for a way to help them remember to be careful what they share in video meetings, as we've had a few issues. Don't suppose you have a light-hearted video showing that do you?
I cannot share my sound i do not get the little switch to share the sound everything else works fine . when i play a short cd i can hear it but the other person cannot .can you please help .
You need to share your computer sound when you screen share. I think the button is called share systems audio or share computer sound. Screen sharing shares the sound but not the audio.
Thanks very much for your interesting videos. I am hope to share a DVD of a book I am teaching with my class. Is that possible through Skype (I was thinking of "screen sharing").
Thanks for commenting, Chris. Yes, if you can uploaded the content from the DVD you can not on screen share by record using Skype. If you have that option enabled.
Thanks very much and I'll give it a go. While I have your attention (!) and I do apologise for these questions 😔, could you please tell me (i) how many students can be "present" at a lesson (ii) how may can appear on the screen at the same time (iii) how many can be talking at the same time. If a student asks a question, can I try to make him appear on the screen or does he have to do it? Very humbly, Chris (you can tell from these that it will be my first time!)
Great Russell My concern is that when I screen share to show a slide show on ppp I loose the image of the student! How do you keep that image in the corner? many thanks Karen
I don't think you can. I think once you screen share that it dominates the screen and you can't have the webcams running too. You have the same problem in Zoom too
Hi. Thanks for the video - very easy to follow. Is there a way to share a screen so that the tutor and student can write on it and upload to it? Thanks, Rick.
'When you screen share in Skype, you need to minimise the Skype window, so that the other person sees the web pages that you have open. Hope that helps. Russell.' Thanks for the reply but unfortunately it doesn't help much :-). I was already minimizing my window and can share powerpoint and microsoft word documents but I don't have the option to share from the internet for some reason. Students can see the internet as part of my whole screen share but I can't just share that like my teacher can from her PC. Thanks anyway.
I can screen share ... but not the sound? I wanted my friend to watch the you tube video with me, they could see the video but not hear the sound... how do i do that?
Have you enabled 'share computer sound / audio' when the window pops up after you go to share screen. Check out this part of this tutorial: When you go to share your screen to play a video, you do need to enable 'share computer sound'. The part about playing a video: ruclips.net/video/h4wu1CYEIRo/видео.html
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm having a sound problem when I share my screen and want to share a video with my students. I click on share sound before sharing the video as required, but the sound is too low, not only for me, but for the other person hearing it too, sometimes no sound. As soon as I'm off Skype, the sound in the same video is perfect, as it was before I even shared it. My sound settings seem to be ok, but not sure. How can I resolve this? Thanks. Should I change anything on my settings?
Hi Raquel C. Thank you for leaving a comment and a question. The only thing I can think of is that the audio settings are not right. I presume you checked the audio input, and whether you are using your computer in-built mic or a headset and that the volume levels are OK. Have you tested the sound levels in Settings > Audio & Video? It seems to be something within Skype for both you and the other person.
@@ttvRussellThank you for replying so promptly. Yes, I have a built-in mic. I have tested the sound in 'make a free test call' and it's all ok. The problem is when I share a video, in which I share the sound too, but it seems to turn down, even on my side, when it wasn't before, so my students can't hear it at all, despite the fact I put it at the highest volume. It doesn't matter if it's on RUclips or if it's a download I have. Would it make any difference if I changed the setting to High definition audio instead of the default mode? I don't use videos all the time, but when I do, it's for a listening comprehension activity, as I teach languages. Thank you :)
I can screen share, share documents etc but I can't share my web sites that I have open on screen. My teacher who I did a trial with could share google with me that she had open on her PC. I am using a mac and the web pages that I had open were not visible in the choices of sharing whereas in Zoom they are. I managed to show her the web pages but in a different way that meant she could still see other things on my screen. Any idea how I can directly share the web pages that I have open? Thanks in advance
When you screen share in Skype, you need to minimise the Skype window, so that the other person sees the web pages that you have open. In this example I show a PowerPoint window, but it doesn't matter, as long as you minimise Skype. You can, of course, also share a link to those specific web pages in the chat window on Skype. I have a comment, I have been using Skype and screen share how it possible to see like student when share picture and student can see a bigger image of your cam still. I'm so frustrated about this i would expect it to be possible just don't know how.
I guess it means you might not be doing it correctly. When you screen share, you must minimize the skype window so that the students don't see you but see what is on your screen.

Really glad that my videos are helpful. I have some new stuff coming out very soon. It might be worth signing up to the newsletter on my website www.teachertrainingvideos.com/sign-up.
Thank you
You're welcome. See this Playlist, it might be useful:ruclips.net/p/PLqYj2sOxDkVyn5THUv9sI0BZH6RF6Z-LN
Yes, sharing content on OneNote is a good idea. It will work well.
Thanks, it helps
Glad it helped
Thank you much.
🙂
Hi Russell, thank you so much for a very clear, well explained and useful video especially as I'm not very tech savvy. Is it possible to screen share and still see the person I am video calling?
No, not really. You can do that in Zoom, which is also free for 1 to 1 sessions but not with SKYPE.
Please reply
With how many students can I screen share simultaneously and will that consume more and more internet data as the number of students increases?
Yes, it will use more data and I think the current limit is 25 but it might have changed recently as many things changing with tech at the moment.
@@ttvRussell thanks
Also tell me is there any restriction of number of hours per day? Per month?
I think SKYPE can be used all the time. I don't think there is any restriction
Best one iIve seen yet
Thank you Danny. I am glad I was able to help you.
Hi...thxs for Zoom lesson. I am using Skype and would like student to see video and hear it...sees it but doesn't hear it...what to do?
Brilliant! Thank you
Thank you for the lovely comment. I am glad my videos are useful.I have some new stuff coming out very soon.
@@ttvRussell Thanks for your reply Russell, I didn't word my question very well, but thanks for your answer, I know what I need to know now!!
Dear Russell, What camera are you using? The quality is good! my Asus laptop's camera is not good. Is there any chance to use my cell phone camera with my laptop?
Gisselle, sorry for slow reply. I was away on holiday. My camera is this one

@@ttvRussell OK, thanks. I'll give it another try. I have been usually Zoom lately as I prefer it but this last student preferred Skype.
Helen, I don't but you are right it is important. Never have anything open on your screen that you don't want people to see if the golden rule
Rick, not in SKYPE. I guess you could screen share one of the interactive whiteboard websites, that would work.
Thanks Russell. I didn't realise you had replied, seem to be having issues with gmail and youtube. I've found that MD whiteboard is a good resource :)
'When you screen share in Skype, you need to minimise the Skype window, so that the other person sees the web pages that you have open. In this example I show a PowerPoint window, but it doesn't matter, as long as you minimise Skype. You can, of course, also share a link to those specific web pages in the chat window on Skype.
Oh sorry that it didn't help. I'm not sure what the solution is in that case.
is it the same for group sessions for a skpe personal account?
Yes, I think so.
Is there a way to prevent your viewers' capability to screenshot or video record from happening? I want to protect my material.
Diego, in reality the answer is no. There are now too many ways they can do it.
Ok I will try...thank you
THank you!
Really glad that my videos are helpful. I have some new stuff coming out very soon.
Hope that helps. Russell.
Thank you. This was helpful!
Dee, I am really glad I could help you.
