Results as we all know have been woeful since then, it is only my view that the unrest at the club, the results and most importantly the massive re-build had big part to play. There was a contract offer and if he was happy with the terms he'd have signed it in a shot. Best guess is it was more of a head coach role and relinquishing power to the new director of football.

Unfortunately things leak and the managerial hunt got out there, but what should the board do? Sit on their hands and leave any incoming manager a matter of weeks to sort out the squad.
