Really enjoyed this one, so much interesting info about those locos!
Absolutely superb edition. So much positive news about the various loco projects.
The C2 opens the exciting possibility of running Blaenau-Caernarfon through trains without the change of loco on The Cob - is such a service in your longer-term thinking? Thanks for sharing and more power to the project! \m/
Can't wait to see the NG15 in steam!! A mass of work has gone into that since the boiler what put on the frames. I'm so pleased to see progress on Mountaineer, one of my favourites since hearing the chime whistle echo around the hills at Tan-y-bwlch in the early 90's and then getting to fire it and drive it around Boston Lodge in the mid 90's. Fantastic updates! All the best, Matt
This is one of the best updates I have seen can't wait to see the C2 when it is finished
I've been wondering what happened to that Chinese loco - the C2 - (and asking questions to which no-one seemed to know the answer.) I last saw it, on video, still in steam and working (like a knackered old pony) on the Chinese NG railway. I can't now remember if it was a quarry, a mine or sugar beet farm. Then the two FfR guys were shown checking it out and agreeing to buy it. This only confirmed to the Chinese that the British truly are the Perfidious Albion or, as mad as a box of frogs. I don't know what was paid and it must have cost a fortune to ship it, but you just know its original owners would have abandoned it at the end of a siding somewhere and left it to rot. Mad Brits come and offer real money to take it away? "Ah, so! You want chip with that?"
I know Ff&WHR have got a wide, wide variety of locomotives, both steam and diesel, but C2 will join the line up with pride and happiness at a renewed life ahead of her.
Interesting project ,good luck
Thank you for this update, I'm really looking forward to the new locomotives joining the operational fleet, it was nice to go inside the workshops to see the progress on both engines.
This update really does illustrate what a 'BIG' loco the NG-15 actually is! Cannot wait to see it in steam and travel over the F&WHR behind it! Thanks for the info!
amazing, with the size of that tender the NG15 has, could it run porthmadog to caernarfon non stop without the WHR water tank behind
Awesome to see the C2 up to something, I'm hoping it gets some advanced steam upgrades to help make it an economical engine to run, lempor extractor, CAD balanced motion (be critical to stop the engine from nosing at speed and bashing its cab into anything), maybe even more superheater tubes to increase superheated steam production and up tractive effort.
Good idea very important in an age where fuel is such a concern
Super stuff going on! I'm looking forward to the next few years to see all these locomotives in service.
Good thing about oil firing it gives you options during hot dry summers...
I hope this locomotive gets used at some time. It’s an awesome beast. The shame is that they’re dinosaurs, especially if it’s going to run on some sort of steam system.
is the c2 powerful enough to run on the welsh highland as it is a pretty big engine?
In the video it was stated that it's a bit less than a Double Fairley(sp?), so not that big a loco, but not that small either.
She will be able to pull the odd lighter train much like the doubles can but realistically she will likely be primarily on the Ffestiniog.
Very excited though to see either way, it a a great looking machine is the C2
Bucket list.
That was pretty tight in the tunnel, will the lack of space above the chimney affect C’s running ?
It's no tighter than any of the other locos in actual fact so all will be well.
I’m surprised Garnedd tunnel hasn’t been abolished. Either that or rebuild it with wider clearances.
Its part of history and character of the tailway
