This is the best soft shackle tutorial I've seen. I like having the measurements to start with. The only thing I did differently is that I looped the buried end over the finished knot so that there's no way for the knot to ever roll out.
I know this is an old video but I wanted to thank you for the excellent tutorial. I made my first soft shackle thanks to you 👍 BTW, I couldn’t find any wire to bury the line so I used 20lb mono fishing line. It worked fairly good.
if you goto walmart, or any home depot type store if you go into the hardware section, there is OOK aluminum hobby wire, it's used to hang frames etc but its cheap and does the job very well and you can get it in lots of places.
excellent tutorial man! I made some soft shackles from this tutorial step by step and a little bracelet for my niece. i had a couple questions at the end but you answered them well with a demonstration. cant wait to set up my CRL and mess with the shackles! thank you
Very detailed video. Well done. I'm knot challenged so I need this. One video I would love to see is how you make your panel pulls for your tarps. Thanks, Ender (Vermont)
Ender Bean I’ll do a detailed tutorial of that for you! The lengths may vary depending on the dimensions of your tarp and the panel pull locations on it, but you’ll be able to adjust for your individual setup! Thanks for the comment!
I'm working on having the same setup as yours. My dreamhammock sparrow should be ready in 2 weeks. I just ordered my dyneema fiber tarp (12ft) with doors so that will take a little longer. I can't wait to use them on my first overnight trip. So that gives me a little time to learn how to make your panel pulls. Thanks in advance!
Ender Bean because I’ve recently hit 250 subscribers, I’m feeling really generous!! I have a set of tarp accessories already made up and waiting for a home. It’s basically my entire setup from the CRL with dutchware hardware down to the shock cord tie outs for the doors. And yes, even the panel pulls!! Send me an email, so we can talk privately, to triplenickeloutdoors@yahoo.com so I can send them out to you!! Thanks for being a fan of the channel and tell your friends!!
Fantastic tutorial. I was thinking if it was possible to make a ridgeline with a build in “soft shackle lock” in one end to remove the need for a carabiner or a dutchware hook?? So you wrap the line around the tree and use this lock to “tie” around the ridgeline?? If so. Could you make a tutorial please :)
I put a locked brummel loop on one ridgeline.. just have to run the line through the loop. no "soft Shackle" required. It would be possible to put a soft shackle in the loop, to prevent having to thread the whole CRL through when setting and taking down, but I think it would have to be a seperate piece. That's of course unless I'm not understanding your thought process.
AWESOME! 👍 Perfect amount of information. Nice speed. I'll be watching this as I make my first few this weekend. I'm gonna be a loop-makin' machine!! Have you tried wrapping a small continuous loop inside the prusik alongside the ridgeline to make tensioning and loosening the tarp easier? I'm going to try that with my setup. I'm wondering if I'll need to add more wraps, but I think I remember seeing somewhere that the two lines next to each other create more friction than the prusik alone. ahhh, I can't remember. I'll figure it out as I go unless you have some good advice for using that method. Thanks for the good video!! 👍 🍺
I haven’t tried using a continuous loop with the prusik loops. The original method has worked for me so I just rolled with it. But hey, give it a shot!
Love this shackle. (at least from what I see).. I went through a whole lot more work to make a full soft shackle with a full bury. I'd have saved a TON of time doing it this way, and for the needs, it would have been just as good. (the extra strength of the one I did will never be needed. I may re-do my shackles like this, just because it looks easier to deal with on the connection.
Yeah, this is a great connection point from your ridge line to your tarp. Full soft shackles are useful if you’re using them in your suspension setup but are overkill for this purpose. If you try it let me know how it works out for you! Nick
I made it tonight.. I went about an inch longer, for no apparent reason, but SO easy to make! I'm headed on a hike tomorrow, and one of the first things I'm doing is to replace the shorter of my two existing shackels when I set up my gear tomorrow evening. (it was the one that made me look for a shackle video again). Glad I found yours! Thanks again!
I just made a couple, but for the life of me I couldn't fish the wire through, so I have an awkward tail sticking out. It works and I just may electrical tape it.
Wow! Best YT video presentation I've ever seen on not only making a soft shackle but showing how to employ it on your tarp, as well. Well done, Nick.

Made my first two soft shackles , they came out purfecto thanks Nick !!
Sorry for the late response. I was reviewing some comments and must have missed this one.
I’m glad that the video was able to help!
Be good.

Great tutorial for a very useful soft shackle, thanks.
Thanks for the comment!

Rickard Mikel very nice! I’m glad your niece got to benefit from your splicing skills!! Keep the DIY bug going!

Wow. Thanks! Email sent.
Ender Bean nice chatting with you!! Thanks for your support and good luck on your journey!
Made 2 today, thanks for the tutorial.
Awesome! Glad you found it useful. Happy Thanksgiving!
@@TripleNickelOutdoors and to you!
Do you think that these shackles, which I made out of 1.75 mm zing-it, will hold on a 1.75 mm zing it Ridgeline?
@@samchilders531 yes. Just add more prusik wraps until the loops hold.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks
Hope it helped!
Great ! Thanks for sharing! Must try this! 👍
Thanks for the comment! 👍
Nice video. Thanks for the lesson!

Nice tutorial thank you, just made a bunch. ;-)

Alan Parris awesome brother! Enjoy! Hope you have a great trip!

Can you use the outer sheath of paracord for soft shackles?
I've never tried, so I'm not sure.
How much louder do the measuring marks on the cutting mat have to scream!
Are you useing zingit not sure ??
Yes. For these I use 1.75mm zing it or lash it.
@@TripleNickelOutdoors thanks !!
Cutting board is graduated in inches.
