Tatiana writes all the lyrics, and she is a dope poet. Especially when you realize English is her 3rd language. She speaks Russian 1st, Ukrainian 2nd, and English 3rd.
Eugene also writes lyrics (Sit Stay Roll Over, parts of Pisces, Colossus), and her husband Alex Lopez also contributes certain elements to her lyrics as does Max Morton, their producer. As you said, English is not her first language so sometimes Tatiana has trouble finding words in English that convey what she is trying to say so she does get a bit of help in that regard writing sometimes but not to the extent that someone else is writing the song for her. Tatiana and Eugene are both language teachers by trade outside of music. Tatiana also speaks a bit of Spanish
Eugene's writing style is pretty noticeable against Tatiana's. His lyrics are pretty direct and usually pretty brutal and often times deals with corruption and government and that kind of thing broadly speaking, exception being Pisces which they wrote together if I recall correctly, and Tatiana likes to be more metaphorical and embellishes her lyrics with a lot more symbolic imagery and things. Her lyrics often deal with mental health, social issues, and things that directly relate to herself specifically (I Speak Astronomy, Wallflower, Dead Hands Feel No Pain, Perennial)
My guy said "welcome to my Ted Talk" -- bro, why'd you stop? I was vibing with that... Anyways, great reaction to an amazing Jinjer song. I'm particularly keen on Perennial as it's story is just beautiful. Great review man, thanks for revisiting Jinjer!
This band has a long history of having to overcome hardships and tragedy involving band members, war, etc and they continue to blaze their own trail relentlessly.Higher billing’s and recognition is to slow in coming but they never complain or disappoint
Jinjer’s logo is also the logo for the city of Gorlovka, Ukraine, Tatiana’s and Roman’s hometown. It is just to the northeast of Donetsk and is literally right in the middle of the battlefield between Russia and Ukraine. Gorlovka is an industrial city and the outer ring, a gear, symbolizes the factories while the drill bit in the middle symbolizes the coal mines. Tatiana, Roman and Eugene are literally war refugee’s having to flee their homes in 2014 with the start of the fighting.
The Jinjer logo is a tricone drill bit used in coal mining. It's a big industry in Donetsk, Ukraine which is where they're from. Eugene sometimes plays as if he's holding a pick, but it's still just his thumb and index finger. You can really see him doing it in the Perennial Live from Wacken video.
Indeed. I read somewhere a long time ago that the drill bit logo is also signifying something that can chew through the hardest things known to man so the logo has the industry connection and also being used as a metaphor for the band members themselves. Also the name "Jinjer" is an old Latin word that means "virgin" or "maiden" - the band usually explains the name away by jokingly saying that the name is the sound of distorted guitars and its unclear if the current members know what the name actually means (Dmitry Oksen, their founding guitarist named the band if I recall correctly)
Jinjer is a perfect band! There entire catalog is fire! "Pit of Consciousness" live at Kiev "Who's Gonna be the One" live "Vortex" I could go on and on
Nice reaction/review and I'm also a huge Jinjer fan. Eugene plays with his finger and uses a pick, sometimes both in the same song (see Perennial live in Wacken 2019). Playing with the fingers is the traditional way of playing bass and in many cases, people who play exclusively with a pick tend to be converted guitarists (and many of them don't play with the same "feel" as someone who started out as a bass player), but with a few exceptions, like the legendary bassist Chris Squire (RIP) from Yes. Also, if you think you need to play with a pick in order to play fast runs, you need to check out Jaco Pastorius (RIP), who was one of the most creative and influential electric bassists in the history of the instrument and he played in multiple genres, but primarily jazz-fusion. I would start with his song Teen Town.
Jinjer was my gateway drug to bands like, in this moment, infected rain, arch enemy, butcher babies and unleash the archers, all great female lead kick ass bands. Enjoy the journey my friend😂
I think you are 100% right with what you said about the band!!! Since I've been a musician myself for over 40 years, I also know that good musicians don't make a good band > and Jinjer drives it musically to perfection!!!!!! warm greetings from germany and thanx for your reaction
Great reaction as always. I feel in love with Jinjer 1st listen Christmas Eve 2018 and they have become my all time favorite band. As a longtime (1980-on) metalhead that is no small feat. The way to say it is every member in every song serves the song not their own ego. More into hard rock the band Band Maid is similar in that the song is always more then the components. They also have a sick bassist. If interested reply and I can set you up a link. They also have a rabid fan base.
@@TrevandErin here is live of the song Domination. I have been to loads of shows since my 1st in 1985. Band Maid is in my god tier list of shows I have seen live with Maiden, Dio, Babymetal and yes your newly found Jinjer. Band Maid is more hard rock but just ooze enjoyment from the stage. The bassist Misa is very talented. ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html
100% agree with double feature of "Vortex" next. Omv and bass playthrough! And if you want to see it live as well, then go for a triple feature and do vortex live at hellfest. You can do live 2021 or 2022. 2021 isn't in front of a crowd, so the audio quality is better and you can hear the backing tracks, however 2022 is in front of a crowd and you can hear how is actually sounds in a real live setting better.
Eugene's bass playthroughs are mind boggling. I would love to see a double or triple reaction. Also Roman and Vlad have a bunch of playthroughs that are completely insane. My brain can't completely comprehend how intricate these songs are until I see each individual part. Ps, great reaction. Subbed, and can't wait to see more. 🤘
Great reaction as always! Eugene is a monster, as are all the rest of the band! For cool bass lines I would recommend Wallflower or Vortex off the most recent album (Wallflowers) but every song has a super impressive bass line and I love how Jinjer always have the bass loud in the mix rather than burying it like a lot of bands!
Vlad (drums) is actually a classically trained pianist. And he's the only one in the band with formal music schooling. He only learned to play the drums to play in Jinjer. And, he is the drummer in one of the most difficult genres possible. Everything is crazy complex time signatures, and syncopations on top of syncopations. But you hit the nail on the head. They aren't competing, probably because they aren't individual virtuosos. They realize that they more than the sum of their individual parts when they play as one. The drums in this song particularly are absolutely sick.
I'm a bassist so I get it. My fav bass Eugene does, I would say out of what I've seen and heard so far, I like Sit Stay Roll Over, and I Speak Astronomy. specifically for the bass lines. He is aggressive and percussive (slap/pop) on both those songs. It's killer!
Best band on the planet !!!!! You won't find a bad song ....... OLMV ... Words of wisdom ...if you want to see the bass go bananas!!!! Great reaction subscribed !!!
Check out Eugene's bass play through of "Who Is Gonna Be the One"...but wait until you've done a reaction to "Who Is Gonna Be the One" live. But, secret time...I am not aware of ANYONE having done a reaction to this bass play through. You would be the first to my knowledge. ruclips.net/video/2Dx3J29OuaM/видео.html
They don't have guitar solos. They have band solos which is one of the top reasons I love this band. Great reaction. Glad someone else noticed how well they play together and trying to show up everyone else.
A few Jinjer songs have guitar solos. Beggar's Dance being one that definitely has one, and a very good one at that, and from time to time Roman does tapping runs that are technically solos (Sit Stay Roll Over)
Ok Trev, you got my sub with this one. I love Jinjer and Eugene is 1 of my 2 favorite bassists. The other is Misa from Band-Maid. Don’t let the name fool you. This all female rock band from Tokyo is right up there with the best I have ever seen. Misa moves flawlessly between using a pick and slapping. Check out the official live video of their song “No God”. You will be blown away. Also they have a catalog of well over a hundred songs and a very, very loyal fan base called Maidiacs that will not be far behind. Cheers from West Texas 😎🤘🏻
Another great reaction! Jinjer ARE the PERFECT meld of musicianship, vocals, lyrics, performance and it's great when anyone recognizes that! The musical composition, musicianship, songwriting, and performaing of Jinjer has allowed me to actually APPRECIATE the ARTISTRY of music! For many of the songs/videos the now have musical playthroughs for drums/guitar/bass, you should consider doing some reactions to those. I cannot whether you've done a reaction to "Who is Gonna be the One" (Live) yet, but it has great guitar and bass lines and rifs and there is a bass playthrough you'd probably enjoy ruclips.net/video/2Dx3J29OuaM/видео.html . Keep the Jinjer Journey going, you'll thank the Jinjer Army for it and we'll thank you as well!
Dude if it is Eugene on the bass that you like check out the live version of Who is Gonna Be the One from 2017. That bass playing will blow your freaking mind
you gotta check out the band Opeth they are the biggest influence for Jinjer I truly believe their song Ghost Of Perdition is one of the best songs ever composed check out Ghost Of Perdition live at Red Rocks
Eugene has playthroughs of these songs man. If you are a bass guy. Give Eugene some love and react to one of his playthroughs. That would be unique. No one reacts to the Vlad drum playthroughs or the Eugene bass playthroughs.
I would love some My Chemical Romance reactions...Black Parade or Helena, Helena is my personal favorite between the two. 😊 This isn't my type of music but I enjoy your facial expressions...lol She is great just not for me. Yet I still caught myself head banging 🤘🏼😂 Edit: this song grew on me
Eugene doesn't use a pick at all. For purists bass content, see Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse. He has never used a pick and literally has finger biceps 😅
Here dude. This will satisfy your purist bass cravings. Do a reaction to the official video 'Priest of Sodom' by Cannibal Corpse. You won't be disappointed.
Since you mentioned the whole "Playing Bass with a pick topic." Check out MISA from BandMaid. She has a special technique where she tucks her pick between her fingers/palm while she slaps/pops and then pops it out seamlessly for regular play styles. She is probably one of the top bassists in Japan atm.
Tatiana writes all the lyrics, and she is a dope poet. Especially when you realize English is her 3rd language. She speaks Russian 1st, Ukrainian 2nd, and English 3rd.

This is by far my favorite Jinjer song. This song fucks super hard.
😂 you ain’t wrong
its so complex, it took me 10x to pick up all the rhythm changes, the dialogues between instruments. I love it.

Vortex off there latest album is sweet. Who's gonna be the one live is a banger, killa bass line in that. 🤘he does use a pick every now and then
