This is pretty darn awesome. I wish I had this when I was in the Middle East with no tech support! The more I get around, the more amazed I am at how the various vendors have near identical Command Line Interface configurations. As he pointed out, it very similar to Cisco, or maybe Cisco is very similar to it! Hard to say, I ran into an Adtran VOIP Device that used the exact same command set. I ran into an Overture Router being used on a Cell Tower Base. Never heard of such a creature. Well, exact same programming as Cisco, down to the OSPF Commands.
@@jonsnow1123 We used to use them to basically convert SIP to TDM for some clients that had old CM systems wit no SBCE or SM, so it was an easy way to get the trunk into CM without having to upgrade, but we have upgraded most of those clients now and they all have SM and Avaya SBCE, all installed by me :)
A Cisco console cable works too, just need to repin and switch the green and brown pairs. Then you just need a USB serial dongle to use the console port.
This is a very good piece of information that didn't include and thanks for pointing it out. I think I have only ever had to use a serial cable for a G450 once in my whole life, unlike the G700 which was always a must.
Stupid question but how do you go about licenses for basic home/lab use for ip endpoints, sip trunks, etc for Communication Manager when installing on say a S8300? Still trying to get my head around CM as I've used Avaya IP Office for years.
Hey, so you can actually run this in grace period for 30 days. CM you can actually install and keep rebooting. There are some instructions I’ll try and find on how to get demo/lab licences from Avaya’s PLDS.
@@Steveos312 oh man I’ve not touched those TN circuit packs for ages! You’ll need to telnet to those and then use CM site admin to enable file transfer and try to reinstall the firmware. On some of those cards like the medpro sometimes need a reset for the firmware to fully implement.
@@Steveos312 Hello mate, You can home lab CM easily. You get 30 days grace once you install it. I've even had CM 8.x running on an S8300D. It's not supported and won't directly install loading on AVP, but if you install AVP 7.0.x and then use the VMWare web page you can load in your OVA. You'll need to remove the CPU and RAM reservations and it will run a bit slow, but for a home lab it can be used. I did it before for some call centre elite training. I even had CMM and the Utility server running on it. Not supported in the real world but for home or a lab you can easily make it usable.
Hey, the G450 is configured using ssh over the network or the services port and you can also use a serial cable. There is a web page for the s8300x card but that will only allow you to administer communication manager and anything else that is running on it.
Hello, Im looking for a recommendation of a recorder compatible with the G450. I need to record 10 extensions, 2 year storage with API search and playback. Can you please recommend one?
@@jonsnow1123 same with Verint as well with ACR, but now ACRA and Workforce are 1, very expensive now and 2, very over complicated. I loved how simple the basic linux ACR was. Avaya made it EOL and the last version of it is 15.2 which is obviously now end of sale now too.

Hi, I am planning to set up a stand alone avaya g450 lab. I already have a switch and an ip phone. G450 was connected to pc via service port Switch was connected to eth lan 5 I assigned 1.1.1.2 as the ip address 255.255.255.0 as mask and 1.1.1.1 as gateway. I installed ASA and connect via network but I encountered an error communication error: network connection failed when I'm trying to connect. I pinged 1.1.1.2 and there is a reply. I’ve also used a Samsung Ubigate that is exactly like Cisco. It uses dial peers and everything just like a Cisco router used as a voice gateway.

Avaya used to be big on Nice Systems for recording. They are an Israeli company.
