Thank you for not blurring out the swastikas in the pictures. I’m not a nazi sympathizer, but I appreciate history in its true form. If you are going to watch a show about history, be prepared to see all of its parts, the good and the bad. Thank you!
Agreed. Although I do have to blur the stills when I post them on Facebook. Got a 60 day restriction from them that lasted 12 months for posting a picture saying that it was good that Hitler was defeated. But the swastika that was in the photo made me a Nazi sympathizer, I guess.
The problem is that our perception of the German regime has been almost totally shaped by people who care less about honesty than they do perpetuating a victimhood narrative that their 'tribe' continues to shamelessly profit from, while also persecuting honest historians and scientists whose work shows that narrative to be FULL of lies and exaggerations. One must go outside of RUclips for the truth.

You were so close to the most amazing collection of high end 3rd Reich war trophies when you were in the main square, underneath the mural. I had heard about the collection many years ago, was fortunate to meet the owner late at night, at that square. He took me into his shop, then into a backroom that was absolutely full of stuff. He grew up in Berchtesgaden, he told me a story about his father going into one of the railroad tunnels under the city, and finding box cars full of artwork....all liberated by civilians just after the war...He laughed and said that Berchtesgaden had the best collection of art held in private homes..He told many other amazing stories about the town, and what is hidden away...I also have a whole bunch of photos from a relative who was in the 3rd armored...some of him sitting amongst the ruins of the Berghof.....I love your videos
Berchtesgaden and the Obersalzberg are on my bucket list. They are both beautiful and overflowing with history. Thank for letting me live vicariously through you!

On April 1, 1934, Kirdorf was employed as an L-officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel for the Luftwaffe, which was currently being established, and worked as head of flight readiness in the Reich Aviation Ministry (RLM) until the end of June 1938. His military reactivation took place on October 1, 1937. During this time, Kirdorf also acted as the Berlin-Staaken air base commander from July 1, 1934 until the end of June 1938. From July 1st to October 1st, 1938 he was commander of the pilot schools and the pilot replacement departments 2, later 3, before he was appointed higher pilot training commander III on October 2nd, 1938. Kirdorf held this position until the end of 1938 and returned to the RLM in Berlin in January 1939. There he took over the position of head of the Air Force Personnel Office on February 1, 1939, which he held until March 23, 1943. Following this, he was a special assignment officer until mid-April 1943. On April 15, 1943, he was appointed head of the Air Force's Office for Enforcement and Mercy Matters. He held this position until the end of the war. On May 4, 1945, Kirdorf committed suicide. Today we know why this happened. Kierdorf was involved in the suppression of the Luftwaffe uprising against Hitler's Führer order to use the atomic bomb against the Allies, which had just been completed shortly before the end of the war, and issued the execution order from Luftwaffe General Anton Waber with everyone involved March 45.

My two daughters and two granddaughters live there. I love being there at Weihnachten. Very special. Safe travels
My dad was a career soldier and was stationed in Germany twice. Between his service and mine, I spent 11 years in Germany before I was 22 years old and absolutely loved the Christmas season there.
I’m subscribed to the new channel and look forward to your content. Berchtesgaden is a beautiful little mountain town. Even just going there by train, the area reminded me so much of my home (Southern Alberta and the Rockies, Banff, etc). I guess that’s why we get so many German visitors.
I am 73 now. When I was a kid my dad was stationed in Munich (1961-1964). We took Boy Scout trips to Berchesgaden and Garmisch, and I played in bomb rubble back in the city.

I love Berchtesgaden! When I was stationed in Vicenza, Italy, from 1992-95, I went there many times. The taxidermy shop you showed about the 8-minute mark was a must-see every time we visited. My wife and I called it "All Things Dead." We would take people we were there with each time to point it out. I would have loved to buy some of those mounts, but I was overruled by the wife. Thanks again!
Thank you. When we lived in Germany as part of the Canadian forces stationed there, my family and myself went to Berchtesgarden frequently, courtesy of the American taxpayer, to stay in the American military hotels, confiscated by the US at the end of WW2. Great memories which kindled my interest in WW2 and WW1 military history.

Your videos are very interesting and entertaining for me , keep up the good work. Berchtesgaden is beautiful I’ve been there at least six times, I’ve eaten at the Goldener Bär restaraunt, thanks for the memories.
Awesome video JD. Been there a few times when we were stationed over there and loved it. Christmas is a fantastic time to be there, you can get a lot of unique Christmas gifts for folks. Thanks and have fun.🍻🍻🍻
In 1971 when the Obersalzberg was controlled by the US government, as a member of the US Army I stayed overnight in Albert Speer's studio located there. It had been turned into a small accommodations lodge. Accommodations at the nearby General Walker hotel were full. I walked around the Berghof area, and its stone parking garage was still there. Gone now. But it did spark my interest in Albert Speer who was living in Heidelberg where I was stationed after his release from Spandau. I looked him up in the phone book (yes, he was listed!) and got invited to his house on Schlosswolfsbrunnenweg to autograph his book Inside the Third Reich. If you or anyone posts their email address, I will send you a fuller account of that encounter and photos of Herr Speer taken in his house and his autograph. It was an event will never forget. Letting a complete stranger into his house. He was a very genial during the few minutes I spent there with him. I'm sure anyone watching these excellent videos know who he was.

Another great educational video. I visited Berchtesgaden in June for my 50th birthday after watching your other videos about the area and it’s WW2 history and I’m very thankful for the information you share which really helped me when researching locations and stories from the past. I’ve now booked a trip to visit Arras to visit the graves of 2 of my great great uncles who were killed during WW1 and once again it was one of your videos that inspired me to finally getting around to paying my respects to the fallen. Love your work and have obviously subbed to your walking tours channel. Keep up the good work.
No doubt a stuffed bird hunting shotgun toting fox would add to the decor of anyone’s living room. Somehow my wife couldn’t see the potential when I suggested it and showed her your example.
I believe that the Golden Bear was the unofficial hangout for the SS guards of Hitler's Berghoff. It is in the book, A BRIDGE TO TIME, A Re-enactor's Journey, written by the founder of the WWII Historical Re-enactment Society. Four books in one, there is a travelogue portion that details what to see at the places contained in the novel half, which is a 'what-if' the SOE had attempted to assassinate Hitler in 1944.

Ah that’s cool with this video and the other channel you mentioned, which I had seen but unsure if it was yours or not. But, will be sure to sub. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family ❤
Good video.
Added walking tour channel. You do amazing videos JD.
I have been very curious as to what they are going to do with the Zum Turken Hotel! JD, do you know of any whispers by chance??
Not sure.
If I may be so bold as to ask what the name is for the additional channel is.
History Traveler Walking Tours. Got a link to it in the description of this video. Thanks!
Was there yesterday beautiful area
Another great educational video. I visited Berchtesgaden in June for my 50th birthday after watching your other videos about the area and it’s WW2 history and I’m very thankful for the information you share which really helped me when researching locations and stories from the past. I’ve now booked a trip to visit Arras to visit the graves of 2 of my great great uncles who were killed during WW1 and once again it was one of your videos that inspired me to finally getting around to paying my respects to the fallen. Love your work and have obviously subbed to your walking tours channel. Keep up the good work.
Hi JD great video thanks and JD are you still in Germany at the moment then and keep up the good work JD
No doubt a stuffed bird hunting shotgun toting fox would add to the decor of anyone’s living room. Somehow my wife couldn’t see the potential when I suggested it and showed her your example.
My favourite RUclips channel
I believe that the Golden Bear was the unofficial hangout for the SS guards of Hitler's Berghoff. It is in the book, A BRIDGE TO TIME, A Re-enactor's Journey, written by the founder of the WWII Historical Re-enactment Society. Four books in one, there is a travelogue portion that details what to see at the places contained in the novel half, which is a 'what-if' the SOE had attempted to assassinate Hitler in 1944.
