Hey @Z Reviews I just recently picked up the HD58x from your video and man they changed my life compared to Razer but one thing I am looking to change is the cord. Can you recommend or lead me to a new cord!
I've been resisting the 58X for months . I've been wanting the Hifiman Sundara as my next just waiting for the price to come down - how many headphones do I need??? Damn it if Z didnt push me over the edge!
For me its the best :D i ordered the 58x because i saw how happy he was about the 660 long time ago and i wanted to get into a pair of balanced headphones in a cheap way. Now iam the happiest viewer for having the same setup for a fracture of the price :D
Did we just become best friends? Because I did the exact same thing lol. I watched a video to make my choice, ordered the 58x, then found this video and it satisfied my choice
My brain is just melted now trying to figure out where all of these headphones sit. 58x are close to 660s, and the 660s are compared back and forth between the lcd2cs and the dt 1990s, but some people like the 6xx more than the 58x, and the 6xx is compared back and forth between the 600s and 650s. And now our price range goes from $150 - $799 between all of these? Or $600 if you assume you can get the lcd2cs for around that price used. Sure, personal taste changes what headphones you're going to prefer, but I was hoping there would be some more clearly distinguished tiers to all of this. Oh well, everything is pointless, I'll just keep buying more headphones.
I feel exactly like you, this hobby is getting pretty ridiculous if a 150$ pair of headphones is all what you need in the mid/fi. However, I wouldn't compare the 58X/660s with the LCD2s (which I consider entry point to High Fi). I would compare them to the 300$ modded M1060s, which are 95% of the LCD2 sound with 50% of the quality (better comfort due to less weight, though). I guess 58X & M1060 are the best bang/buck in the headphone world right now unless you get in the high tier wallet-breaking rabbit-hole (I stopped digging once I got my HD800s, that I actually consider pretty good value for being a world-class hp).
@@MiskatonikI've bought and sold the LCD2s and much preferred my HD650s over them. It wasn't until I got a pair of HD58x did I find a headphone that comes close to the HD650s but improves on it's weaknesses. The HD58x are the most well rounded headphones I've ever owned.
I own the HD58X and the 650's and the 58X's are very much the same, but not quite. They lack too much of the high end, they sound like a (good) imitation. Personally, I think the Fidelio X2's are even better, actually going a bit further than the 650's, but with the whole quality control thing, they are a risk.
Completely agree Z. I went to Japan 2months ago and was about to purchase the 660s as I loved them listening on a demo in Akihabara. After a friend of mine in Japan told me about his 58x and how close they sounded to the 660s. We went back together in Akihabara and tried both headphones. I was shocked.... they were very very very close to a point that in some soundtracks I could not descern any differences. Took my mobile phones there on the spot and ordered the 58x Jubilee from massdrop and being telling to all my friends and mostly now own one. I feel sorry for the 660s owners that have paid so much more though.
went to japan years ago before I got addicted to this hobby, now all I can think of is visiting on of those malls in Japan and just spend the whole day auditioning headphones :D
You are so right. In my blog I reviewed both and did measurements of both and I had to say nearly the same. Buy the HD58X and you get the best Sennheiser below the HD800. I also sold my 660S for 330 bucks immediately after my review. Meanwhile I own 2 of the Jubilees. Extended bass with improved highs and I love them.
I own two Jubilee and one ist stock and the other is already modded in this way. I removed the foam at the back and at the front and additional I swapped pads to the new Brainwavz alcantara.
Sound changes in that way frequencies up to 1,2kHz get more pronounced. Means bass gets 5dB plus. Highs get recessed at some frequencies above 10kHz about 3dB. So the HD58X gets a cery warm sounding. To be honest it become to muffled even with foams removed. Not sure on which headphone the alcantaras will fit soundwise. :)
So... I just had a listen and measured the HD58X in stock condition and without foam on the back. The changes are very very small regarding tonality but in terms of soundstage I prefer the version with removed foams. Sounds very open and clear now. the 5% improvement in this term is much more conspicuous than changing in tonaility.
wait, does this potentially mean that if the paper runs out of its physical dynamics we are screwed? how long til this flimsy piece of paper goes to waste by daily use and regular 'erosion'?
I had the same thing with HE 4XX, and I'm not sure that to do. I love them and I don't have a chance to listen to HD58X. I'd actually make money by switching to these.
I was one of the lucky ones who got to experience these in the first drop on massdrop. I felt the same exact way as you I am a 660 owner. The only thing that justifies the 660s to me is there slight advantage in clarity but.... that isnt worth the extra 350$. By far the jubilees are the deal of the century and blow away anything else in a +/- 100$ range of their 150$. If anyone was going to buy anything from massdrop it has to be the 58X's.
now im sad. i have a pair of 650's and after 4 years of use from my old pair I almost bought the 660's . I bought these (from your massdrop link) and now i can not believe my ears. you saved me a nice bit of money. so glad i have been subscribed to your channel. keep up the great reviews! im now going back and listening to more of my music and of course this video too haha! Sad i paid as much as i did for my 650's back in the day. these Jubilee's are FRIGG'n AMAZING!
Through measurements taking the foam out of the back does nothing to the sound. However Zeos, if you take a quarter size piece of felt and cover that metal silver piece in the back of the 58X driver with the felt and double stick tape and they measure 99% the same as the 660S. The only difference is the lack of dampening on the 58X increases the bass. Adding the felt removes that extra bass and they are the same.
I removed the foam and added the felt, then added the foam back in... removing the foam definately produces an auditory difference... not sure why this isn't measured. I also swapped pads to dekoni elite sheepskin and it is pretty great to me... I tried the fenestrated first... which did not work well with these for some reason.
yeah same here, i first removed the foam under the grill and noticed alot more clarity and it was easier for me to pick out instruments in songs and stuff. I then put the felt over the driver and it just changed it completely. They are definitely more clearer sounding now with hi's and low's still intact. The main thing that happened with this mod was it pretty much removed the muddyness in low to mid range for my ears.
Z Reviews man i just bought the HD 660 S 😂💔😭 It was on a sale at amazon. 450$ and with taxes reached 498$ lol! And i need to ship it to my country Middle East so i will probably pay around 30$
Fuck, I bought my 58x this summer and now I want to buy another one just in case. The problem is they are a bit of PITA to ship to Russia, because MD doesn't want to ship to Ru and they reject russian paypal accounts (that is especially frustrating because my bank's conversion rate is just ass compared to paypal) And now these headphones are probably going to be out of stock soon :p
GUYS! For those of you who got the 58x Jubilees, make sure you put a very thin screen (with adhesive maybe) over the back of the driver! Gotta make sure the screen lets air through easily so it won't affect the sound. The foam did a dual job of both modifying the sound of the headset along with keeping dust and small airborne debris from entering the hole the in the back of the driver. LIKE so others can see!
Popcorn Sutton Darkness has fallen on the ears of the faithful. The desolate future soundscape lays ravaged by the piercing wails of Skullcandy creatures pretending to be music, as Bose bass bubbles from the earth, as thick and muddled as tar. One man stands alone, bracing his bloated, disembodied hands against the burgeoning tide of endless mediocrity threatening to swallow the remnants of humanity.
@@GoodBoyDanny I bought them just before that post, so I've had them for a bit. I've changed the pads and have used them with both the JDS EL Stack and the Dark Voice 336SE tube amp. Going to try them on a Schiit stack, next.
Not the same driver, just the same diaphragm. Magnet structure and coil are different. In addition the 58X has additional back damping felt that the 660S does not have.
The felt is ridiculously easy to remove as the headphones are designed to be easy to take apart and re-assemble. Arguing that the LACK of a modding component is somehow a reason to buy the 660S model is just retarded.
Was tossing up whether or not to buy the HD660S instead I ended up buying a set of HD58X jubilees for $150 (+ the $15 international shipping fee) and this review makes me very glad that I did.
Thanks a ton man I wouldn't want to miss out on this deal. I was much appreciative of your endorsement of the Fidelio X2's which I love. Just ordered these and I'm stoked. Thank god I saw this video a day before the drop ended.
Yo still here? im considering getting the X2HR or the Hd58x but im not sure which one to get if there’s a clear winner? How was the 58x compared to the x2hr?
I love the fact that you're really honest in your reviews, I had just bought my ath m50x's and I mean I like them for production and that stuff, but thats because I always go from neutral to my own personally preferred sound in the mixing process, however listening to a record player with them, you do get volume trough but they are, like you say, boring, I was very much considering the 660s but since they are kind of expensive I'm probably going to go with the 58x, might still go with the 660 since im trying to buy the more expensive gear now when I still have a job since I'm gonna start studying, and a pair of 660s might be more worth it since im gonna be stuck with the setup for about 5 years during university anyways thanks for being honest and going through every inch of the headsets in your reviews
Thank you so much man, was about to buy a pair of 660s and I saw you uploaded this. So I just insta bought the 58X's 150 dollars for a pair of 660s minus a tiny bit of warmth is killer. :D Love you Z
The Mailman's Child... I think that this is a case of just how differently we all hear things... I spent many hours comparing the 6XX, 660S, and 58X using an NFB 11.38 as DAC/Amp, and Topping D50 DAC and CTH amp. My conclusion was that the 58X sounded more dynamic with harder hitting sound, had more emphasized treble and bass, and was in general brighter than either the 660S or the 6XX. The result is that I prefer the 58X, but that is just because that is my preferred sound signature. For comparison, though, I loaned my 58X to a colleague for a day and his response was, meh, I much prefer the 6XX. The way I heard the 660S vs the 6XX was that the 660S was everything that the 6XX was, but somehow more... It still sounded a lot like the 6XX, but (yes, volume matched) the 660S just sounded to me to be a more full version of the 6XX (sorry for the horrid description). They both, to me have that upside down U (frown shape) signature sound, lots of emphasis on the mids, less on the bass and treble, but the 660S brings up the two ends compared to the 6XX by a bit. And definitely the 660S has less of that famous 650 veil... But it is equally musical, with the sounds blending together (the more laid back sound the 6 series is known for). The 58X essentially takes that frown and turns it upside down. I am not saying that the mids take a back seat, but they may go back a few rows to make more room for the bass and treble. And they are much less "musical" at least to me as they are much more articulate with each sound (something I like, but others may prefer the 660S/6XX laid back sound). To me it is clear that the 58X and the 660S/6XX will appeal to different tastes... If I had to sum it up I would say that while there are some family resemblances, the 660S is definitely the big brother of the 6XX/650, and the 58X, well, maybe that one is the mailman's child...
Natarian Everyone’s! :-). In all seriousness we should doubt all subjective statements (like mine in what I wrote and what Zeos said in his review). The trick is to figure out who “hears” (or likes what they hear) the way you do and then pay attention to their thoughts on gear that you haven’t heard yourself. Everyone else is suspect!
AEST HETIC I should also have mentioned that what I wrote was in relation to those three headphones... if I introduced the DT 1990 or MD x Focal Elex into the mix my comments would have been that the 58X did not so much turn the frown upside down as it turned it mildly saucer shaped compared to the frown on the 6XX/660S and the more pronounced U on the 1990 and Elex (each of which could then be compared and differentiated)
I want to share my opinion as I own the 58X and 660S. First of all I bought the 58X because of Zeos praising them highly and for the price they are indeed wonderful headphones, way better than the HD 598 I owned for years. The thing is they are definitely, very different headphones and I can confirm it without even doing an A-B test. 58X have really good and clear mids and a good amount of bass, but it lacks resolution and airyness in the treble region and also the bass is not very clear, it has more bass but not better bass than the 660s. It's also brighter than the 660s. 660S on the other hand has even better mids, more defined bass, great treble, more soundstage, better imaging, better build quality (you can tell just by holding it), better comfort (material in the headband and pads is way better and also the headphone is way less clampy) and it's just more resolving and fast. I'm not saying it's worth $500, but it's definitely better in a lot of ways, I'm definitely selling my 58X. Edit: And I did the mod to the 58X and still the 660S is just better at everything I said. The driver is just not the same, so even with mods even if they sound close, you will still be missing a lot of the 660S sound.
I did extensive listening 58x vs 6xx, 58x just didn't hold up. Bass was loose even after foam removal and especially under higher power. High end us better than 6xx but I like air. In female vocals w/o much bass, they sound fantastic but any tunes with bass impact, there's no way to ignore it. Running Marantz and Topping amps with plenty of power..
Changed the inside foam behind the pads to a way thinner textile. Now they’r much clearer and exactly how i want them to be. No need for 600’s any more.
Zeos you made me buy the SHP9500 now I upgraded to the HD58X, I bought them before you releasing the video but watching it hypes me so much, I can't wait for them to arrive
@@El_ShintA I've been waiting for more than five months for the HD58X to arrive, it's funny you say that, finally in like 15 minutes I'll hear them, I'll come back and compare them to you
@@El_ShintA I live in Brazil, they don't send there, and to avoid tax I imported them to Paraguay and then to Brazil (different tax rules because Mercosul market). So yeah a lot of time
I bought the HD 58x Jubilee after watching this video many months ago and paired them with an Aune X1S. I came from, what I used to think was pretty high end, a Creative Sound Blaster Z and a Sennheiser Game One headset. I feel a thank you is in order for exposing me to all that my ears were missing. Though the Game Ones did come to life with the X1S alone, the HD58x was the whip cream and cherry on top, particularly for music.
Sounds about right... Have you heard "vintage" hd580? Many hc audiophiles prefer them over modern versions... Tho they also prefer hd250 linear I 600 ohm over ANY senn, so those are the real gold unit to look for
I write this in an effort of fairness I complained about the long shipment time of Massdrop so I must praise them when they shock me and get it right. I ordered the HD58x after watching this video and 2 weeks later they are sitting on my head as I rewatch this video. Good job Massdrop. thank you z.
Hd58x was my best long term investment ever....had them since they came out and never looked back....i adjusted the EQ by someone on reddit and they sound stupendously good
If it's any consolation, I'm not disappointed. I'm really happy I watched your review and went 58x over 6xx 😉 Thanks dude. Hooking up to a Mayflower Arc
I am about to pull the trigger on this pair. Coming from a pair of ath-m20xs, these will be my first pair of "high-end" headphones. I hope I won't be disappointed.
@@NVRSE500 I prefer the Jubilee's, but both are great IMHO. The X2HR's are a bit more subdued with smoother bass, but have great depth and clarity. The Jubilee's are brighter, punchier, very detailed, and also have great clarity. One thing of note is build quality. The X2HR's are much nicer. The Jubilee's are not going to fall apart but they are almost all plastic and feel cheaper than they are.
Mark Y ok, thanks! I'll probably go for the jubilees, just because of that warmer midrange and the fact that the design, while quite plasticky, has been proven to last ages, shown by the hd600. Also, the DAC/amp that I'm getting for them has a bass and treble control, so if the mids are too present, I can just add bass and a little bit of treble. Regardless, thanks for the concise overview! It's exactly what I needed to form this opinion :)
I know I'm chiming in real late here but those speakers are the jamo s803. Fantastic speakers from what i hear universally. Z has a review on his channel here.
Ordered a set of 6xx's and 58x Jubilee's today, 6xx for a friend, the 58x for myself. So excited. Both are on drop as we speak fyi, 5 hours left. Thanks for your vids
Just bought these onsale for $129 i remember when i watched this when it came out and like hey that's pretty cool. Hopefully they are still pretty cool
I just got my jubilees in the last sale plus it was my first massdrop purchase adding up to a grand total of $115. First real pair of headphones and hot damn it seems I really lucked out
Got these in the midst of trying out a bunch of other gaming headsets hoping I'd find a new favorite. These are great. First time trying an open headphone. Two things I was not sure about, sound leak and bass, ended up to not be an issue. Audio volume outside of the headphones is not that big of a deal at all. Bass is actually really impressive. Maybe not the most bass I've ever heard in terms of amount, but deep and I guess due to the open headphone, eerily convincing. Took me a few days to stop thinking people bumping their mic boom in videos and other random sounds wasn't thunder outside. These seem like the easiest to drive headphones I've ever had, I have to keep my PC volume at like 6. Also I have never had a headphone with cloth earcups, very comfortable and probably a bit cooler. I have a big head/big ears so most times trying headphones I am either finding a painful headband without enough adjustment or annoyingly small earcups. This headband is great, the Sennheiser clamp is noticeable but feels good, and while I would always welcome even more room in earcups, these have just enough to not be bothering me. I've got about 5 clicks of adjustment on each side left over too. Very springy comfortable foam on the headband.
The best part about the Jubilee's is... you don't feel quite as bad modifying them as you do something that costs 2 to 10 times as much, or as afraid you will fuck them up... I have a feeling these will have a lot of mod traffic generated quite quickly
I did solderdude's mod not too long after I got these and they sounds pretty good when you remove the foam from behind the driver. Clarity and bad extension are improve and it sounds much tighter, less warm, and closer to neutral imo. He just recommended that you cover the hole that leads to the driver with some felt and you're good to go.
To owners of both the 6XX and 58X: which do you prefer and why? I'm a proud owner of the 6XX, love the relaxed sound. Could literally listen to it forever. I definitely prefer them to my B&O H6's 2nd gen
Heh, I just spent the last two days comparing those two, with my AKG K7XX, the HiFiMAN HE4XX and a set of BayerDynamic COP+. At first I liked the 6XX's more than the HD58X. Much less clamping force. A slightly deeper voice with more body. Kind of like the difference between using a vegetable broth (58x) vs a hearty beef broth (6XX.) I remember thinking the imaging was also slightly better on the 6XX. Then I saw this review. Now I have to go back to re-examine them both.
@@victorsubido Hey I currently own the K7XX(mostly for gaming and some music) and am thinking of getting the 58X just for my music, would the 58X be better for like hip hop/ indie/ punk ?
I think the 58X would be a little better for music than the K7XX. Music sounds very lively and bass is stronger. The sound is very clean. The headband clamping force and the pad on it are horrible. I think the soundstage on the K7XX was better, though. Good luck getting a pair of 58X, though. I saw a couple of posts over there complaining about how fast the last drop sold out. I'm running my headphones on an SMSL M6. Make sure you have enough power to drive those 6XX's or else you'll think the 58X's sound better.
I own the entire family. Out of all the 6 series. The 58x , and 660s are my preferred cans. They're better balanced across the spectrum. Also, yes I agree that the 58x, and 660s are way too close to even consider purchasing the 660s. Especially once you remove the foam on the 58x grill. The 600= boring The 650/6xx= even more boring All in comparison. I even prefer the 58x to the 700. Lol. These are just one man's opinion. Others may hear and prefer something different.
I got the 58x and gave it 6 months before I got rid of the 6xx. Tried the 789 and tube amps and bottom line is the 58x take way less power to be amazing. You need nuclear reactor level power to get anything out of the 6xx.
Thanks for the Review! ^^ I am happy that I find a old pair for original Sennheiser HD 580 on eBay for about 90$ (81€) incl. shipping! They sound great, I only have to replace the Pads and Headband and the look like new!
hd 580 is not the same as the hd 580 jubilee which is also not the same as the hd 58x jubilee which is the headphone reviewed in this video. The hd 580 is similar to the hd 600 but have a little more high end and a little less sound stage. The original hd 580 jubilee is the hd 600 literally but they couldn't keep producing them since it was sold as a limited product, hence they made the 600s. The hd 58x jubilee is massdrop's take on the standard hd 600 line of headphones which sound a lot like the hd 660s which are higher end (in price atleast) then the hd 600 and hd 650. 81 euros for a pair of hd 580s is great, but they are not the same headphone as in the video.
@@sethv4601 but the 6xx is modeled after the 650 which retails for $400. If the 58x really is identicall to the 660s, then it should be better than the 6xx since the 660s retail for $500
I'm so happy I decided to just buy the HD58X and not the 660's. Saved me a nice chunk of money. I'm using some cheap headphones I got from a presonus audiobox bundle and I cant wait to upgrade.
how are they, im trying to decide if i wanna buy them or the mh751 or maybe even the new hyperx cloud flight, i like a good bass since i listen to hip hop and the HD58X sound promising
@@veljkodjordjevic486 I’ll put it this way. They’re not as bassy as what most people are used to, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The bass is balanced and more accurate. The beauty of audiophile, high quality headphones is that you can morph them into anything you want them to be because they’re so much more goddamn flexible than those of lesser quality. Feel like you’re lacking bass? Bass boost eq. Done. You still retain the clarity, detail, and midrange. Nothing else changes, unless you want to. For me, the high end was a little veiled to me, but a small treble boost made them sound literally perfect. Even if the sound signature isn’t something you like, you can EASILY change it into something else with a minor tweak of an eq. But most people are usually very happy with them straight away
They are of course not the same...just watch metal571 actual review . ......to spoil a bit .....the result ...... lower-res HD650s with grain in highs....
Just bought these after trying the sundara and not liking it because it felt too clinical and not dynamic enough. After some EQ to add some brightness, the 58X and Sundara are very close in detail and clarity, but the sundara does edge it out. But the 58X, for me, is way more enjoyable, comfortable, and more versatile.
Hey Z... How do these (both) compre to the DT1990?. I've done a lot of research and people says that DT1990s are better but I haven't heard you comparing both and you are the reviewer whose ears match the best with mine.
I am considering getting the 58X and I have been watching reviews and it's a mixed battle. I don't know if they're worth it after watching some, then watching a couple more other people say they're definitely worth it. So i have no clue if some people refuse to admit they wasted money, or if the people saying that it does sound similar are just inflating their opinions. Should I get them?
Get them. The value is damn ridiculous and it's great in any application I use them and ALL genres of music. I can't really think of a headphone that is as great all around as these especially at this crazy price point.
Could have sworn you were Jack black for a moment lol your voice is really similar great video I'm currently awaiting my 58x's arriving and this adds to the excitement 👍
My GF just told me I had enough headphones. I got a great deal and finally got the 58x (I think these are going to be a gift fwiw). I also just got the SHP9500s for $60 still in the box. And the B&O H6. And the Hifiman 400i. And the Sony MDR-1A. All in the last 2 years. I think she's jealous. I have yet to begin to headphone.
I can't compare them to the HD660S but compared to my HD600 the build/finish differences are quite obvious. The headband just isn't smooth you can see the groves from the headband extension system and other uneven bumps from the mold. The paint itself seems really cheap. The mesh on the grills is different, not as fine and not as smooth. The pads don't feel the same either, they're less supple (I had the HD600 only a month longer so can't blame it on break in) and have a much more apparent edge to them. Idk if it's just the pads making the difference but the HD58X's feel more clampy and less comfortable overall. When it comes to sound the imaging and clarity is noticeably worse, soundstage narrower, but for casual listening I find the sound signature more full, and nicer in that way. The complete lack of bass when going back to the HD600 is really hard to swallow. I'm sorry, World. Maybe the first batch was better. But what I'm hearing here fits nowhere near to Zoes's praise for the HD660S PS: I powered them both with plenty of power coming form the Emotiva A-100.
God, I wish I didn't have my needs covered already wrt open-back headphones, otherwise I'd jump right in. I could use an extra good closed-back pair with the same kind of deal though. Please Massdrop?
This man convinced me to get my m40x instead of m50x, and now convinced me to get these over 6xx, and god damn I am so grateful he did, both are not only cheaper, but better sounding, its insane
Agreed, I did not like the 6xx as much. One thing you should do is the Curtain Mod on the 58X. Google it. It takes them from f-in good to f-in amazing !
Sennheiser should care about what you said concerning the resale value of 660's, no one can get into headphones anymore without coming across Z Reviews. Like Steve Guttenberg, Zeos Pantera is a symbol of hope and guidance to us all.
Ah right, old habits die hard. Watched this video- bought these off massdrop(two day shipping, you know I had to do it). and now after watching a bunch of other reviews I'm back to this review. The hype is real. Sure the opinion might be universally glowing but my hype needs more reaction to them. BECAUSE DAMN IT I WANT THEM NOW
@@TheAngelsKill you know what, they're alright. They aren't these mind-blowing oh my God I'm gonna jizz level quality. Don't get me wrong, they're great. But there is stuff missing in the sound signature that my used he-4's from hifiman do much much better. The biggest weakpoint Is soundstage. Imaging is good, bass is a little bit too present for my liking with the foam in. Mid quality is really good. They perform more like a 250-300ish dollar pair of headphones. But they'll satisfy plenty if they are your primary pair/ only over ears. But they're still worth having even with my he-4's being around. Hope that helps
@@kylefrederick155 Thanks for the info. Its nice to hear from someone whos honest and to the point. I guess I will take the leap and go either the 6xx or the 660s. Cheaper isnt always better, unless we're talking about the SHPs lol. I appreciate the info man, just saved me 150 disappointment.
The 650 has been around for ages now so the 6XX makes more sense from that perspective. However, the 660s is still a 2018 product. Now there are people who claim that it isn't the 700 driver in 58x. They say it's a 5x9/5x8 series driver Frankensteined to the 600 shell.
They didn't. These are not the same HD 700 drivers as in the 660S, they're likely 5XX tweaked drivers, and they don't sound the same. This is hyperbole.

Bought the 58x for $115 from massdrop, thanks for your review
Hey @Z Reviews I just recently picked up the HD58x from your video and man they changed my life compared to Razer but one thing I am looking to change is the cord. Can you recommend or lead me to a new cord!
Financially speaking, subscribing to this channel was the worst decision of my life.
😂
... so true 😔
My adult self is going to hate past me for getting into this channel.
I've been resisting the 58X for months . I've been wanting the Hifiman Sundara as my next just waiting for the price to come down - how many headphones do I need??? Damn it if Z didnt push me over the edge!
I have spent SO much money since I excepted Z in my life... it is like a cult... slowly draining away my soul and money...
For me its the best :D i ordered the 58x because i saw how happy he was about the 660 long time ago and i wanted to get into a pair of balanced headphones in a cheap way. Now iam the happiest viewer for having the same setup for a fracture of the price :D
Just bought the 58x's and I just had to watch this to reinforce my purchase.
Bahaha. How are they? im thinking of buying theae to upgrade from my a40s
Did we just become best friends?
Because I did the exact same thing lol. I watched a video to make my choice, ordered the 58x, then found this video and it satisfied my choice
Same lmao!
@@Slashimi i was only able to get them for 170 though. Not the 150 from last year :(
Bought them a while ago. Still come back to the video
You're a hero
What did you like about the 58X over the 650?
Z we rarely agree completely but I was shocked by the 58x and you are spot on in this review
The Sennie HD58X is my first introduction to high quality headphones and could not be more happy! Absolutely them!! As always, great review!
Extended bass with improved highs and I love them.
did you take the foam out of the cups too, or leave them the same as stock delivered?
I own two Jubilee and one ist stock and the other is already modded in this way. I removed the foam at the back and at the front and additional I swapped pads to the new Brainwavz alcantara.
@@Miniklangwunder how does the modded one sound

DO NOT TAKE OFF THAT DRIVER PAPER. DON'T DO IT.
Reason?
More words or maybe pictures...or even a video of what happened?
hey DMS, how about a little more detail in your comment. why not???
Paper is there to tune the drivers. It provides dampening to the driver movement
wait, does this potentially mean that if the paper runs out of its physical dynamics we are screwed? how long til this flimsy piece of paper goes to waste by daily use and regular 'erosion'?
This is my first Sennheiser can, and this video has made me more confident that I made the right buy.
So you’re saying 58X is as good as 650 eh?
I tried the fenestrated first... which did not work well with these for some reason.
so, to your ear these sound just like 660's with a touch more bass?
More or less yes. Maybe just a touch less detail.
thank you so kindly for replying. cheers!
yeah same here, i first removed the foam under the grill and noticed alot more clarity and it was easier for me to pick out instruments in songs and stuff. I then put the felt over the driver and it just changed it completely. They are definitely more clearer sounding now with hi's and low's still intact. The main thing that happened with this mod was it pretty much removed the muddyness in low to mid range for my ears.
I got the HD58x wanting a 150 ohm version of the HD600. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Im also glad I waited to buy the 660.

Z Reviews man i just bought the HD 660 S 😂💔😭
It was on a sale at amazon. 450$ and with taxes reached 498$ lol! And i need to ship it to my country Middle East so i will probably pay around 30$
you can buy these and the verum almost for the price of the 660s lol
Fuck, I bought my 58x this summer and now I want to buy another one just in case. The problem is they are a bit of PITA to ship to Russia, because MD doesn't want to ship to Ru and they reject russian paypal accounts (that is especially frustrating because my bank's conversion rate is just ass compared to paypal)
And now these headphones are probably going to be out of stock soon :p
I just got the Jubilee's in a thrift shop for $6, fully functional. These sound amazing!
I want and need DT 19XX.
Well I just bought the DT 1990 so I'd be pretty angry if that happened XD
THE YEAR IS 19XX
*heavy breathing* Oh, yes, please, make it happen!

i want that to happen OP... those pair of headphones are the only others that are making me consider spending a ridiculous amount of money on sound
Been thinking of buying the 58X Jubilees for a couple of weeks and went ahead and bought a pair just now because of these reviews.
StrikitRich I just bought them. Worth.
@@GoodBoyDanny I bought them just before that post, so I've had them for a bit. I've changed the pads and have used them with both the JDS EL Stack and the Dark Voice 336SE tube amp. Going to try them on a Schiit stack, next.
Just got mine 5 minutes ago. Thank you, seriously!
Not the same driver, just the same diaphragm. Magnet structure and coil are different. In addition the 58X has additional back damping felt that the 660S does not have.
well they should have made it worse.
The felt is ridiculously easy to remove as the headphones are designed to be easy to take apart and re-assemble. Arguing that the LACK of a modding component is somehow a reason to buy the 660S model is just retarded.
the 58x has the drivers glued to the ear cups... I almost learned this the hard way
The four tabs are clearly glued in pace unlike my 6xx model. Maybe it has changed. I just got mine yesterday.
So the 58X would edge out the 660S for gaming? Not $ wise but sound wise with the more powerful base etc.
Was tossing up whether or not to buy the HD660S instead I ended up buying a set of HD58X jubilees for $150 (+ the $15 international shipping fee) and this review makes me very glad that I did.
Not the same driver as 660S. HD 555 magnet and capsule backing, with different damping.
I was waiting for this review ever since I picked up a pair of the jubilees. Actually I'm listening to this on them right now.
How are they

Really have to tip my hat to Massdrop for this one. I knew I wanted it from the moment of its announcement. (Don’t have it yet, tho)
At least it's only $150. That's cheap as far as Z-induced impluse purchases go.
Why can't he just review good CHEAP stuff again?

Thanks a ton man I wouldn't want to miss out on this deal. I was much appreciative of your endorsement of the Fidelio X2's which I love. Just ordered these and I'm stoked. Thank god I saw this video a day before the drop ended.
Yo still here? im considering getting the X2HR or the Hd58x but im not sure which one to get if there’s a clear winner? How was the 58x compared to the x2hr?
I love the fact that you're really honest in your reviews, I had just bought my ath m50x's and I mean I like them for production and that stuff, but thats because I always go from neutral to my own personally preferred sound in the mixing process, however listening to a record player with them, you do get volume trough but they are, like you say, boring, I was very much considering the 660s but since they are kind of expensive I'm probably going to go with the 58x, might still go with the 660 since im trying to buy the more expensive gear now when I still have a job since I'm gonna start studying, and a pair of 660s might be more worth it since im gonna be stuck with the setup for about 5 years during university
anyways thanks for being honest and going through every inch of the headsets in your reviews
zeos sounds like the little guy in my head rambling and coming up with the perfect way to describe something that makes sense to only me
Thank you so much man, was about to buy a pair of 660s and I saw you uploaded this.
Mids more laid back than Bass or Treble ? Wow, that's exact opposite of my with impression with the HD58X
AEST HETIC as I mentioned above, a case of where we all hear things differently! :-)
Oh god, how are we supposed to know whose ears are broken?!
AEST HETIC
I should also have mentioned that what I wrote was in relation to those three headphones... if I introduced the DT 1990 or MD x Focal Elex into the mix my comments would have been that the 58X did not so much turn the frown upside down as it turned it mildly saucer shaped compared to the frown on the 6XX/660S and the more pronounced U on the 1990 and Elex (each of which could then be compared and differentiated)
Z, how about a 580 - 660S round up like you did for the 569-598?
Agreed. Sold my 58x a few weeks ago. Had it for months and just didn't enjoy anything about it really.
*sigh*
Time to empty wallet.

i'm really curious... how were they in ur opinion? love to hear people try shet out for the first time. :D
Just got these recently and they are indeed very good. My daily drivers are X2HRs but these are going to replace those for now.
Which ones do you prefer? And why? Sorry I'm deciding between the two
@@NVRSE500 I prefer the Jubilee's, but both are great IMHO.

First real pair of headphones and hot damn it seems I really lucked out
Have you tried the foam in the 660s? Just curious on impressions & maybe a third video
They sound amazing after removing the grill pads...
Oh wow
The best part about the Jubilee's is... you don't feel quite as bad modifying them as you do something that costs 2 to 10 times as much, or as afraid you will fuck them up... I have a feeling these will have a lot of mod traffic generated quite quickly
The packaging is different tho,
Love this rant 😂👌🏽
I did solderdude's mod not too long after I got these and they sounds pretty good when you remove the foam from behind the driver. Clarity and bad extension are improve and it sounds much tighter, less warm, and closer to neutral imo. He just recommended that you cover the hole that leads to the driver with some felt and you're good to go.
Got these for $110 on massdrop with discounts. Absolutely a steal lmao
What discounts?
Hdjekso idk about discounts but they have a “refer a friend” get $10 off I think

The 600= boring
The 650/6xx= even more boring
All in comparison.
Just received my 58X Jubillee a few days ago. Blow my mind for the price, thanks Z for this video. And for my hears and wallet
I like this headphone. But it still has the Sennheiser Veil. 660S Definitely sounds more clear.
One of your best reviews good job z
shoo shoo audiogoblin!
Thanks for the Review! ^^
I am happy that I find a old pair for original Sennheiser HD 580 on eBay for about 90$ (81€) incl.
How does this compare to the similarly priced 6XX from Massdrop?
the 6xx is only $50 more & should be about $150 more, because they are a significant improvement
@@sethv4601 but the 6xx is modeled after the 650 which retails for $400. If the 58x really is identicall to the 660s, then it should be better than the 6xx since the 660s retail for $500
@@sazik4608 the 58x Jubilee does not use the same drivers as the 660s, that has already been disproven, google it
I'm so happy I decided to just buy the HD58X and not the 660's. Saved me a nice chunk of money. I'm using some cheap headphones I got from a presonus audiobox bundle and I cant wait to upgrade.
So would you still recommend the HD58X? I just ordered them, so I hope so!
how are they, im trying to decide if i wanna buy them or the mh751 or maybe even the new hyperx cloud flight, i like a good bass since i listen to hip hop and the HD58X sound promising
Just bought a pair of 660s a week or two ago. The feels.
They are of course not the same...just watch metal571 actual review . ......to spoil a bit .....the result ...... lower-res HD650s with grain in highs....
“FUUUUUUCK!” 660s owner here.
DMS's review putting the 1990 up vs the 660s was what convinced me to get the 1990s. Glad I did.
I own the HD 650's and just got the 1990 pros... IMO the 1990 pros are better in every way than the 650s.
Have you guys compared the 1990 to the T1?...
Great review! Just ordered 58x, im happy as f...!
As a 660 user, my heart is torn.
Wahaha! I'm even happier with my jubilees now!
I have yet to begin to headphone.
twodeepmatt never enough 👊
But what I'm hearing here fits nowhere near to Zoes's praise for the HD660S
PS: I powered them both with plenty of power coming form the Emotiva A-100.
God, I wish I didn't have my needs covered already wrt open-back headphones, otherwise I'd jump right in.
I could use an extra good closed-back pair with the same kind of deal though. Please Massdrop?
Ether flow closer back is very good watching zeos review on them
This man convinced me to get my m40x instead of m50x, and now convinced me to get these over 6xx, and god damn I am so grateful he did, both are not only cheaper, but better sounding, its insane
Anyone who owns a pair of 58X must try the "curtain mod". Super easy/cheap and it makes them sound more clear and keeps almost all the bass.
~"I'm not taking my '$500 headphones' apart."--HAHAHAHAHA!
This video was alot more intertaining than its supposed to be.
Ah right, old habits die hard. Watched this video- bought these off massdrop(two day shipping, you know I had to do it). and now after watching a bunch of other reviews I'm back to this review. The hype is real. Sure the opinion might be universally glowing but my hype needs more reaction to them. BECAUSE DAMN IT I WANT THEM NOW
How do you like them?
Happy I’m still within my amazon return period on my 660s...these will actually arrive in time for me to test side by side.
Hey man, how did your testing go? 660 vs 58x? Cheers.
So any updates?
Update????
if I have the 6xx should I buy the 58x jubilee? I see they are easier to drive so I could probably use them for other things
I own the 650 and 5XX. Not worth it imo. You already basically have the same headphones.
thanks for the info, I'll stick with my 6xx then
YES. do it. Completely different sound.
The great zeos has responded! I Shall buy it now then, thanks for the tip @Z Reviews
Hell yeah, they are perfect for portable use and dont need to be tied down to desktop amps.
I bought these yesterday and they will be here tomorrow. Thanks a lot for making me spend money Z.
I don't understand why Sennheiser would do this. I am very glad they did.
They probably weren't selling as many 660s as they had hoped and already had a solid relationship with Massdrop, with the proven success of the 6XX.
The 650 has been around for ages now so the 6XX makes more sense from that perspective. However, the 660s is still a 2018 product.
Now there are people who claim that it isn't the 700 driver in 58x. They say it's a 5x9/5x8 series driver Frankensteined to the 600 shell.
@@KamielSadien
naw i am pretty sure it's 660s driver, 660s sound much better then 598. i tried a 58x and it was closer to 660s sound quality
They didn't. These are not the same HD 700 drivers as in the 660S, they're likely 5XX tweaked drivers, and they don't sound the same. This is hyperbole.
