Thanks to you and Tuck. I just harvested my first tomatoes ever and.... WOW. I never knew thats what tomatos ACTUALLY taste like. 100% difference from the grocery store. The grocery store is bland mush. But my tomatoes were AMAZING! Thank you so much for lighting the fire under me!
I had the same experience with home grown strawberries. Even convinced someone hated strawberries to taste ours. Afterwards, whenever he came over, he was poking around in our strawberries patch!
👌👏👍!! Cucumbers🥒 will blow your mind !! A must is butter not squash for me! I've been gardening for almost 10 years and with James and tuck I've learned so much and next year I'm expanding my garden by 4by 8ft and doing berries on the fence acting as a trellis. Much luck to you!!! Brad. NJ
My experiment two years ago: pinched suckers off my Brandywine tomatoes in September; took them indoors and rooted them in water; then potted them up in a sunny window as the temps got cooler in October. They struggled to survive due to lack of sun through December and January (lost a few), but then they started to take off in February and March. They got extremely leggy, but after I set them in the garden in May they developed quickly into very nice plants. Had ripe Brandywines by July 10, about six weeks early.
@@bobbiduval7961 It's not critical--pretty much any piece of the plant will take root--but a sucker is a strong new branch that suddenly develops from the juncture of a leaf and the main stem of a developed plant
@@bobbiduval7961 you have the main stem, from that you have the “branches”.... look in the spot where the main stem and branches connect, the suckers grow at that spot, you should pinch them off to let the energy go into the main plant. I wish I could do that. I don't have a sunny window and I have a cat who digs up house plants. Maybe I'll get grow lights. A tomato by July 10th is a game changer. My first tomat this year was a Chefs Choice Orange two weeks ago aside from the cherries which have been going for a while.
Grafting Sun Gold Yellows and Super Sweet 100's is absolutely inspiring to me, because I am getting ready to dedicate a corner of my small studio apartment to indoor container gardening and want to grow both types of Tomatoes. Saving space is everything in a studio apartment, and I already have spinach, Basil, Jalapenos, Purslane, Lettuce, Navy Beans, Green Onions, and Green Peppers growing. So space is getting limited fast.
@@8thcelisabeth Definitely! I'm trying to find ways to go Vertical, all whilst not having to buy too many Grow Bulbs. Grafting like I mentioned is a brilliant idea so that I can make use of such limited space more efficiently. I also want to find out what stuff I may be able to grow in the same containers as well.
I live far from stores on disability with no transportation and have been trying indoor hydroponics so I can have fresh leaf lettuce and peppers. I couldn`t believe how easy it is and how well it works. I plan to try a yellow Summer squash soon. I have to figure out how to rig up a grow basket to a five gallon bucket. Can`t find any insulated foam sheets I can order to avoid ruining my bucket lids..
I have to say I love your enthusiasm for gardening and my son and I watch you a lot! I recently bought 5 acres of land to start homesteading and you’ve peaked my interest in permaculture which with your recommendation I watched Geoff Lawton. My son says once we get land cleared he would love for you to help us create a food forest “ since my green thumb is broke” 😄
My mom put me onto you a couple of weeks ago...So instead of Netflix, I now binge you. Ha! You have given me some amazing ideas. Your sheer love of plants has helped me to show my kiddos all the cool things like baby strawberry plants and how the tiny tendrils of cucumbers wrap around a wire in a matter of hours. Or how mushrooms also pop up seemingly out of nowhere etc etc. I can show them all of this without feeling like a total dorkface because of you. Thank you for your love, knowledge and enthusiasm.
Not sure about too late? I have a 2 1/2 year old tomato in a pot with a citrus tree. I use it for cuttings instead of seed saving and the black krim tomatoes too. I might try that too.
I've seen people in Asia do something similar, but with peppers and eggplants. They graft younger first year new varieties onto an old, well established root stock. They'll end up with like 8 varieties in one massive bush of a plant with a REALLY well established root stock that doesn't need as much watering

Good morning Gardening Channel. When preparing tomato paste from preserved tomatoes, it's often a good idea to add a little sugar to the mix. Thank you for allowing me to share.
I’ve got tomato plants to grow from planting suckers this year. One of the next things on my list is grafting. My plan was to graft tomato onto potato. It’s all fun.
It is always such a pleasure watching your videos, such a love and respect for gardening, it's wonderful, great to see Tuck as always...he is adorable...👍👍
I've seen somebody graft tomatoes with potatoes before. While the tomatoes ripened above, the potatoes grew beneath in the soil. It was a rather interesting combination. Maybe something you could try out next year? 🍅 + 🥔
Would you ever do a video of an day or a week in maintaining your garden, It would be cool to see you in the daily grind of watering, weeding, pruning, and harvesting.
Great video. Always wanted to do something like. We grew patio tomatoes, Roma, and thanks to you, some super sweet 💯 now. Love seeing Tuck out there toughing it out. 😍 ❤️❤️❤️
Love your videos! Tuck is THE MAN, but you're a close second. Your advice is consistently great, but just watching the vids to catch some of your joy and fire is a nice bonus. Keep up the great work!
That's so cool! I've heard of grafting tomatoes, but I always had it in my mind that it was really hard and complicated. I'll definitely be trying this next year. I wonder if you can do it later in the season with a sucker on an established plant.
My thought too. Using an established plant for rootstock sounds like it wouldn't work, since you put the new graft in the dark for a couple of days. But using suckers sounds like it would work fine. And maybe you could start the rootstock from a small one, too. Hmmm.
7:38.....That was my first thought when I saw the title of this video....what would be the point of this? But now..... I am so going to try this next year. Thanks for putting on your mad scientist hat. You and Tuck stay cool❣
