My experiment two years ago: pinched suckers off my Brandywine tomatoes in September; took them indoors and rooted them in water; then potted them up in a sunny window as the temps got cooler in October. They struggled to survive due to lack of sun through December and January (lost a few), but then they started to take off in February and March. They got extremely leggy, but after I set them in the garden in May they developed quickly into very nice plants. Had ripe Brandywines by July 10, about six weeks early.

    • @Ripleyripper

Grafting Sun Gold Yellows and Super Sweet 100's is absolutely inspiring to me, because I am getting ready to dedicate a corner of my small studio apartment to indoor container gardening and want to grow both types of Tomatoes. Saving space is everything in a studio apartment, and I already have spinach, Basil, Jalapenos, Purslane, Lettuce, Navy Beans, Green Onions, and Green Peppers growing. So space is getting limited fast.

Wow, that's amazing? I'd not heard of grafting tomatoes before. I've seen it done with fruit trees obviously, but wow. Can you tell us/show us how a new variety of a tomato plant is cultivated? Here's some 💜💜💜💜💜💜 for Tuck!

I've been thinking about this over the last few weeks and I'm contemplating doing it with all the tomatoes I've got sprouting at the moment. My vegetables are all grown on a balcony and this might be the only way to fit all ten varieties out there - yes I got carried away. Thanks for the inspiration James. ❤❤❤❤❤🐰♥♥♥♥♥😺❤❤❤❤❤ for Tuck

Awesome idea. I will try it next year. I remember back in FFA we did a potato/tomato Frankenstein plant but I never thought of doing 2 tomato plants before.

Hey James and Tuck! My 5 kids and I have started a food forest thanks to your inspiration. 10 fruit trees this last spring were planted and we started all our peppers and tomatoes and other annuals by seed. They are loving the near daily treasurers of tomatoes, cucumbers and snap peas right now. My 11 yr old said to me when we were planting the trees back in March that the best time to do this was 7 yrs ago, but it’s good that we were planting them now. Wonder where he heard that? Lol They love seeing Tuck and ask to watch your videos for updates often. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the encouragement and inspiration.
