Lyrics:
Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse
So make a move and plead the fifth 'cause ya can't plead the first
Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse
So now I'm rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown-skinned man
Since their grandparents bought one
Yes, I'm rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown-skinned man
Since their grandparents bought one
So now I'm rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun

“So now I’m rolling down Rodeo with a shotgun. These people ain’t seen a brown skinned man since their grandparents bought one” is one of the hardest hitting upper cuts that a song has ever opened with. Absolutely amazing band.
Leaves you stunned and awed with a profound sense of respect.
That is a fantastic lyrical line within a banging track for sure...
Love it
Huge lyrics... Massive... Exciting...

Tim Commerford is one of the most underrated bassists of all time.
Dawg I honestly argue this every time I talk bass. You gotta be a bass player, only real ones recognize 🙏❤️😘
He's my favorite bassist of all time
Criminally underrated grasp of groove
@@suzuyajuuzou8235 As a bass player I agree.
The rhythm section in general is underrated
"plead the fifth 'cause ya can't plead the first" is such a good line, the lyrics in this song are unmatched.
TRUTH!! 2020 vision
I plead the 1st all day
💯💯
Tim's ghost notes on the bass are gnarly. The overall instrumental is art.
Love how the distortion makes each one different, and then those subtle harmonics towards the end....

Without a doubt. Easy in my top three of all time.

Agreed.
"Can't WASTE the DAY when the NIGHT BRINGS a HEARSE." I remember the very first time Zach stabbed that line through my impressionable eardrums 26 years ago. And still, one thousand times later, it never goes stale, it's never outdated, never outta style, it cuts through razor sharp and demands you not waste a second. It still gives me the same sense of urgency in 2022, as I got at 12 years old, in 1996.
My teenage self would be pissed at me for conforming
They were so ahead of their time! We are the fortunate youth to have seen them in the 90s.

Their music is more relevant now then it was in the 90’s.
In a sense yes. Unfortunately its only more relevant because our state of affairs has gotten worse. Thats why I crank my volume up louder

My 1st concert live was RATM and Pantera, changed my life! The energy was off the charts!

Rage toured with Pantera???

Me too brother
What Tom Morello makes with guitar is just mind ear body blowing thing. HOW?! Just HOW did he come up with these ideas?
Tom Morello is not nearly a good guitarist as ppl think… listen to some Virtuoso guitar players from BTBAM.
I love when his little GMA Mom is at their shows...well..I think it was Audioslave... doesn't matter...

The ending is untouchable
And the intro too
Tom Morello will forever and always be my favorite guitar player.
The song addresses social inequality between the rich and poor of America, and the simmering class warfare that existed in the band’s home city of Los Angeles following the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. “Down Rodeo” was written just three years after six days of riots were sparked by police violence against minorities in the city.

Rage has always a voice for "free" people
Rage needs to regroup. We need that voice more than ever.
I was born in 2002, but my music taste is mostly 90's rock, metal, and especially grunge. RATM is definitely on the list, though they're technically nu metal.
@Conner that's always how I thought of them, mix of funk, hard rock, hip hop, and metal. Basically perfection👌
They're not nu metal. That was more the Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit style.
@@mattulino2817 Technically....nu-metal was actually the first Korn and Deftones, Coal Chamber albums. That style was fresh as fuck, but disappeared by the late 90s and was replaced by the rap/rock hybrid style that was audibly different. But then that ended up with the nu-metal tag in the media even tho is was a different style. Either way Rage were definitely not part of that style. For the record I loved the first Korn and Coal Chamber albums, and also the first Limp Bizkit album, I think they all had a uniqueness, clear funk style and really detailed soundscapes, tons of interesting melodies and massive riffs and beats. But all different. I loved the guitar and bass tuning and the drumming. All those bands fell into making pretty boring music after that imo.
After their debut I think the industry scrambled to find "soundalikes" and started the nu metal genre.
Same
