  • This montage of more than 600 images from the Hubble Space Telescope celebrates the telescope’s 30 years of discovery. From our own cosmic neighborhood to the far reaches of the universe, Hubble has opened our eyes to breathtaking new views of the cosmos. The rapid sequence echoes Hubble’s fast pace of exploration. Though numerous, these images are just a glimpse of the data collected by Hubble over the past 30 years, and only a tiny sliver of our vast universe.

So glad it was given the corrective lense and not abandoned to a blurry blunder.
Just imagine what these images would mean in a shamanistic society.
I know our mathematicians and scientists bring a lot of understanding to it all but I feel there is definitely a spiritual value to it as well.

Has there ever been a single machine (and I don't mean invention) that has given so much awe and so much beauty to so many people? Thank you Hubble ST, thank you NASA, thank you ESA, thank you STSI.

@Anna Yang They are not being sacrificed, they are very old and coming to the end of their usefulness. Many of the instruments on those telescopes are no longer functioning. I don't know what makes you believe the JWST is worse than Hubble and Spitzer. Have you seen how much bigger the JWST mirror is? James Webb will be looking at different wavelengths, but with a much bigger mirror and much more modern technology, it will be significantly better.

    • @projectjt3149

@@SteveMHN And now with SpaceX, servicing Webb is not as costly and burdensome (provided Webb's mirror doesn't fail too)

Too fast and photos not labeled. Even with labels even the best speed reader wouldn't be able to garner much info at 1/4 of a minute per photo. It's like running through a multiplex cinema that has the theater doors open and trying to make sense of the movies.

I don't think we could find everything we have and not find a signal from an intelligent species if they existed. Also, there are arguments, but we don't see life spontaneously propagating anywhere on the ripest, most likely planet to see it on... Earth. It's starting to seem that life from hydrogen clouds 13 billion years later is a pretty improbable outcome.
