Ambzer Ambzer No, the reason Jenna said that was because of the extreme drama between China, Japan, and Korea. All three of the countries don't have good relationships with each other from the past. So that's why it's unlikely that Chinese people would want to adopt a Korean and raise them in their house.

"You could have been adopted by a chinese family..." That is one of the things that bothered me in Glee, Tina's family. I feel like They originally wanted her to be half jewish and half chinese, but then they decided she's adopted because Jenna is, and if she's adopted why her last name is chang? And we never saw any member of her family to explain that.

At the same time though, having an amazing dancer in the wheelchair gave the creators an opportunity to have these fantasy dance sequences for Kevin, which would never have happened with a wheelchair character. Also, the fact that he was so convincing is a testament to him and how talented he is.

I don't think you can argue that Glee WASN'T problematic. It was extremely self unaware and completely clueless about the things it tried to preach about.

I like that they used a non disabled person playing a Wheelchair bound kid. Because why not, if you can have straight people play guy and guy play straight, Americans playing British why not? Its acting and well he was perfect for that role, its about his acting and singing and fitting into Glee. I at first thought Kevin was playing Artie was actually in a wheelchair, that's just a testament to his acting and consistency.
I think the best part is keeping him in that Wheelchair threw out the shows run, most shows would of had him miraculously recovered by the end of the first season and had him walking and forget about his wheelchair. I think it would be more wrong hiring some one purely because they're in a wheelchair

Ambzer Ambzer Well, yes, acting is acting. So in theory any actor should be allowed to play any role. But when it comes to actors and their sexuality, this is something that is not always physically evident. Many actors that are gay in real life can easily play straight characters on a show, as well as the other way around. If they face obstacles, it has more to do with other people's acceptance of them rather than their physical abilities. But it's different with actors with physical disabilities. An actor who is unable to walk in real life and uses a wheelchair full-time is very limited in number of roles that they are able to take because they can only play characters who are also unable to walk. They aren't able to act as though they can walk. So since the roles that they could be up for is already so limited, it is very frustrating when a role with a disability suddenly does appear, but an able-bodied actor is cast in the role. But obviously they shouldn't just cast the first wheelchair-using actor that comes through the door, but they must of course make sure that they are otherwise right for the part, same as all the other actors auditioning for other characters. For Glee, they would of course have had to look for someone who is able to sing well and do other things that the role requires.
I'm a part-time wheelchair user myself. I'm not an actress, but I would definitely like to see more characters that are played by actors with real disabilities. I know several people with various disabilities who also happen to be great singers, so I'm sure they could have found someone great to play Artie if they had tried.

@@faceofvision You have it backwards actually. Chris Colfer auditioned for Artie, but lost out to Kevin, but the writers liked Chris so much that they wrote the role of Kurt for him.
