Paul Kossof plays guitar on Come togheter in the morning, Heartbreaker, Travellin in style, Common Mortal man and Seven Angels according to the credits on the back cover of the Heartbreaker album. Snuffy plays guitar on Easy on my soul.
@pegleyjr My Dad died in 1981 when I was @ Uni - I played the Best of Free constantly for weeks after and especially this track. I never saw them live - so wish I had.
Thanks for posting this. I used to play this to death in the Pool Hayes Comp 6th form common room in 1973/74. In my opinion, it was the best thing that Free ever did. So slow and moody...
Whoever remixed this classic track in the 1980s should hang their head in shame. They cut out most important notes of the finest guitar solo of all time. Do yourself a favour and search for the original version from the 'Heartbreaker' album. Paul Kossoff's haunting guitar solo at 2:11 still send shivers down my spine after more than 4 decades (I first heard it in 1980), as does the wailing guitar at the end.
This is probably my favourite Free track, and as wonderful as this sounds,I think that it is a remixed version with the first few spine-tingling notes of the Kossoff solo at 2.12 inexplicably cut out (the highlight of the whole track) and a different drum sound. This is not a criticism of the person that uploaded it, but a criticism of the fools that re-mixed the albums in the nineties. Check out the original on 'Heartbreaker' and you will see what I mean-one of rock music's finest moments!
Cannot agree more. Ever heard Kossof's father's interviews? As far as I remember, turned into a drugs counsellor after he (Paul) stupidly left this planet way too early ... could have been a Jimmy Page ..
Considering selling my entire vinyl collection .. haven't played any for a decade or so- fucked stylus and that .. and all replaced on CD .. but, my gatefold "Free Story" on vinyl is NEVER for sale!! My Brother Jake - under-rated and very touching ... for personal reasons ... brilliant band -
yes this is that rare coming together of an iconic band, ie,beatles, badfinger, just to name two, but take it from me,badfinger are only just at the, starting grid, because they have that special ingredient, natural talent, that eventually even overrides bent bastards like stan polley,
YT dickheads not allowing long posts .. to continue ... brilliant band - they should have gone further... who else would start an album with a track starting "Sitting in a graveyard..." ? Was that Fire and Water? .. been a while .. Heartbreaker also - Stones, Free or Zeppelin? .. All excellent tracks but my vote? - Free can claim the rights to this track title - fantastic song!!
This is the most abysmal mix I have ever heard. Some things are better left un 80's ized. Apologies to Mr. Clearmountain but this in retrospect...was a bad idea.
it's my favourite Free album...even better than "Highway" ...mr Bundrick ...i mean Rabbit was essential in this last Free album... i've heard his 1977 album with Crawler... and it's such a great record... i just try to imagine if... Free did not split up with Rabbit still in the band in 74 with the "Japanese" Free rythmic section and well a new guitarist... maybe even Ralphs (why not!?)... it was destined to do some classics ... musically closer to an hypothetical Free than Bad Company
have seen so many bands but really wish I had seen Free, One of my all-time favourites!
One of the best bands ever...
one of the best songs of all time!
Wonderful stuff from an iconic British Band.

@platty1177 Kossoff was on the album, sporadically. Played lead on this song.

@pegleyjr Beautiful and haunting. Kossof's playing is just magnificent
Another great track from P R. But If you look back at his catalogue, he never wrote rubbish songs.
