I adore what Penhaligons stands for, its history, its design and those heavenly scents. The Endymion Deodorant is adorable. I love Blenheim Bouquet, I just wish it hung around longer. Once that citrus delight fades, you are left with little and its a pricey spritz. Still a greta scent and I for one will be purchasing many Penhaligons in future. It is delightfully English. Eloquent, video as ever sir.
Vlatva is such a beautiful piece of music, thank you for using it in your intro Lanier. A great review as always. Blenheim Palace is actually named after a place in modern day Germany where John Churchill the Duke of Marlborough and Prince Eugene of Savoy defeated a french army in a battle during the War of the Spanish Succession, basically saving Vienna from the French.
You are very welcome Lanier. Marlborough defeated the french on a number of occasions and before they fell out his wife Lady Sarah Churchill was a favourite of Queen Anne. I always learn something educational and enlightening when i watch your channel so thought it was time to give something back.
Brilliant review as always. I have Endymion and LP9 of which I both truly like. I had been sitting on the fence with this one based on varying fragrantica reviews. I ended up going down the Acqua di Parma road (Colonia, Intensa, Assoluta, Essenza & Leather).
After watching several videos reviewing this fragrance, I ordered some for the outrageous (for me at least) price of $160 dollars. And while I haven't worn cologne for probably 40 years, after wearing this wonderful scent, I will never wear anything else. It is the most incredible-smelling stuff I have ever experienced, and even though it is expensive and doesn't last that long, I don't ever want to be without a bottle of Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet. There is nothing like it.
Great review Lanier. I'm a new subscriber, but I've been watching a lot of your reviews. I love them and I've purchased several of the scents you reviewed. Thank you very much for your wonderful insights. Be well.
If I'm not mistaken, the Blenheim Palace was built in the early 18th century, not the 16th. Architecturally, it would have been quite avant-garde had it been built 200 years earlier.
Thanks, been eyeing this one. I really dig Endymion, a really well done take in the modern "pour homme" genre, that lavender/citrus/tonka axis that is very common. Still, really nice and an excellent workplace scent. Sartorial is gorgeous on paper, but falls flat on my skin--shame! Looks like Blenheim will be my next object of interest. Great review, lotsa history, and that gorgeously cinematic opening. Mahalos!
Thank you for your review, Michael! Such a beautiful intro, truly in keeping with the reputation of the fragrance. I think I will pick up a bottle - scent unsniffed, as it were, since the store that carries the line doesn't have testers for it - after your great review. Even if longevity, just like with Endymion, turns out to be less than what one would have hoped.
Very Aristocratic period style fragrance! Great review Lanier!!! I got a deal on a 200ml splash which I decant into a spray bottle. A dry and lightly medicinal almost dusty citrus. I love it!!! Your imagery is fantastic as usual! Gin & tonics and starch white shirts! Any other Penhaligon fragrances you liked???
A revolver to keep someone out of one's bedroom. He must have been a peach! Makes me want to go a back and read all of Wharton's work. I will have to get my nose on this based on your review. I am such a sucker for those bottles I'm willing to sample through some lackluster scents to find the winners. I'm still wearing Ostra long after the Easter bunny has hopped away.
This has been a favourite of mine for some years but recently I bought a 200ml splash bottle very cheaply and consequently may have overdone it -- in recent weeks and months I have found the lavender somewhat cloying. I also bought *two* tubes of the aftershave balm (that's how confident I was of liking it) and Penhaligon's graciously gave me a full refund despite having opened one of the tubes. I found it lacked the wonder austere, dry sparkling top notes of the EdT. Perhaps the secret of BB is....a little, and fairly often. It reminded me that as well as enjoying a fragrance we also have to learn how best to use it...
I loved Endymion though its lasting power was minimal. I will keep my eyes open for this one and try it if the opportunity arises. Jennie Jerome, Churchill's mother, was married to a previous Duke of Marlborough and I believe she was the family's first American heiress. The Marlborough's went on to marry further heiresses, including Tina Onassis, after she discarded Ari. They don't seem to have made the most of the money they received, since to this day they are 'broke' (I use inverted commas, because I have a sense of proportion and anyone who owns a house like Blenheim has no business calling themselves poor, even if they do need to worry about the annual rates notice.) Consuelo's mother, Alva, spent US $11,000,000 on her summer cottage which in modern money is around $250,000,000. I have a taste for grandeur and high living, but I do feel that that was excessive, since she had already spent a similar sum on her town house. Thank you for the video and have a gala day!
Have you tried Dior's Granville? It's is a better version of Blenheim Bouquet in my opinion. It's less bright and more herbal, but otherwise very close except the Dior has excellent performance where the Penhaligon's doesn't for me.
Although I have this, its hardly worn for a couple of reasons. The black pepper note to my nose, masks the lemon and light lavender so much, that if I were a dog, Id be sneezing. I admire the history, the house and the bottle...........but this one is a pass for me Lanier.............oh, forgot to mention the dreadful longevity............3 hours at best...............nice video

And the history gets richer and richer! Thank you so much Mark for that wonderful insight. Cheers.

It's always a pleasure watching your reviews Lanier 👍
Thank you so much Dorf! cheers.
I love this, Floris89 and Floris Special 127.
Not normally one for freshies, this is absolutely delightful! And it still feels so modern.
Artful & descriptive review. Thanks for this review for us, your fans!
Thank you so much Jean-Luc

Oh well those Acqua dei Parma's are something special. Cheers 1928
I have an old, nostalgic soul and really like this scent. Thanks for the review!
You are so very welcome LJ!
Beautiful intro! Love Penhaligon's! Welcome back, Lanier!
Thank you Brenda... it was a fun intro to do. Long but I felt a little travel log at the beginning might be fun.
Love the music selection! Smetana is so inspiring. That piece always uplifts me.
me too! love it

you are absolutely right and I knew that...just a slip of the centuries.
Thanks, been eyeing this one.

Isn't Ostra a beauty? Yes I am thinking of reading some Edith Wharton after I finish The Razor's Edge. Cheers Troy!
love the opening...so beautiful :)
Ciao Pedro Julio...and thank you so much.
glad you are back
Thank you darling Jeanette! It is great to be back.

Welcome back! Great review. :)
Thank you Andrew!!
One of pianist Arthur Rubinstein's favorites was Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet.
Now that is a fascinating cultural tidbit ! Thanks John. Cheers!
@@laniersmith1798 I bought a bottle of it and love it! Rubinstein had good taste!
Lanier, what song is that playing in the intro? NVM, I asked the question before the credit for the music rolled over on the video.
Smetana's "Vltava" (The Moldau) from "Ma Vlast"
Curious, if you use the oil in the bath, how much would you need to use for a fragrant bath?
Just a few drops should do the trick. Cheers!

Tracey YES I have tried Granville..and I see what you mean. It is lovely and somewhat greener to my nose. Cheers.
Very interesting
Thanks Darlene! Cheers.

It certainly is! Cheers.
Review begins at 3.28 😥

Have you ever smelled santal royal from Guerlain? It's classy stuff, I think it'd be right up your street!
