Mr. Phil: Outstanding presentation on switchboards!! Your videos bring back great memories of working in the central office and rural CDOs. I currently own a complete 555PBX switchboard and have hopes of getting it operational soon. I noticed in the equipment rack next to your 608D switchboard was an “O” carrier terminal! I maintained and aligned numerous groups and channels in our rural areas and remember converting from vacuum tubes to FETS and aligning the in-band 3700Hz signaling tone and VNLS recordings with distance terminals. I also worked on 3CL and 3C switchboards and associated trunk equipment. Great time and some of the best times of my career. Thanks for keeping this history alive!
I have an interest in vintage audio recording gear. Any of that old stuff is typically marked if it is know to be "smoke free" just because of what that stuff does to the gear! I love that you even have the vintage chairs that go with the toll board! Nice touch! Just watch out for the one on the Left! 🪑 A video on the T&D system might be interesting.
Been slowly putting together a single position operator board for my son, for a class presentation. Any suggestions where to find a good schematic for the cord circuits? I thought about using a bridge lifter / saturable Inductor, for connecting the operator console to the individual stations (i.e. 3 or 4). Obviously, this project has become more of a 'by the seat of my pants' construction, however I'm open to any suggestions. As always, keep up the good work Phil. Your contributions to the Telephony Community are appreciated. :)

Recently acquired a 551a, so was really excited to see this video pop up!
Awesome!!
Fascinating! Who pays for all this stuff? Did you get a grant or something? Nice to see it all in such great shape!
self-funded
@@sxsphil Well take heart that there are many people living vicariously through your efforts! Beautiful work!

very impressive collection. Thanks for sharing some tech history.
Do you think it’s possible anywhere In the world manual switchboards are still in use?
