Beautiful score by Jerry Goldsmith.I wish he won the Oscar for Star Trek: The Motion Picture 1979, another beautiful score.A great musician who will be missed a lot.
this is one of the few good remakes to come out in years in the horror genre, the original Robert Wise one is still great for the power of suggestion. But this is still one of the best of the remakes. And Jerry is still my favorite movie composer
I'll always like this movie, no matter what. I thought its art direction was beautiful, and sound editing and soundtrack were great. And Lili Taylor was awesome, too. Thank you, Mr. Goldsmith, for the memorable score.
Michael Björk I agree. I wanted to like this movie, but was disappointed upon seeing it. The production design was amazing, the acting solid, but I was distracted by the CG. Too much unnecessary CG. It was like, “CG can do anything now!!! Wahoo!! Let’s load the movie with CG!!!!!!” I got bored with it all. The music, as stand-alone, is stirring, romantic & eerie. Love it!!!
The Haunting of Hill House now @ Netflix remembers me how hauntingly beautiful this suite actually was. This soundtrack haunts me till this day... and in a good way tho!
Goldsmith experience with Poltergeist put him in good stead with The Haunting. Atmospheric and sinister music with a slight twist. Just a shame the film didn't deliver like Goldsmith's score.
this movie is great! it havent got really good special fx,but is one of my favourite movies, the manor is great and the places are magic into there, the story is very interesting and sad,and the soundtrack makes it wonderful and misterious...i dont understand comentaries like zombiecrush75...this movie is a masterpiece of the terror thriller films.
The best horror movie ever....it is so great.... The athmosphere is unbelieveable. I wish I could visit this castle.... :o The music is pure relexation.
I don't give a fuck about what everyobe says about this movie. The ost is great and the movie really isn't all that bad. Certainly entertaining, funny and eerie sometimes.
Same here. I don't think the film deserves all the hate it gets. Sure the script isn't that great and the CGI looks outdated, but the sets, actors/actresses, sound effects and of course the soundtrack were all great. Honestly with a different director the film could've been much better, but the resources were great.
@@raulquiroz7492actually, the direction was fine and the CGI holds up compared to the trash they churn out these days. Still love the film to this day.
Wow thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate it and I'm happy you enjoyed it. Good luck with your dissertation, you've chosen three great masters :)
Parts of this really do sound similar to Poltergeist. There was an untrue rumor that Jerry Goldsmith wrote this for Poltergeist 3 before he chose not to do it. In the beginning of this, you can almost imagine a shot of the John Hancock Center panning up. FREAKY but COOL!
this movie and the music... they didnt seem too much like horror more like a dark fantasy... a creul fantasy ghosts are the main focus yes but...they seem more magical then anything scary.... lovely
Well, I know this movie is a little wierd and outdated now, but as young as I were the first time I saw this movie, every one of the scenes scared the living crap outta me. I had never seen such spendid use of CGI before. Just the concept gave me the creeps. Plus the story has inspired alot of other movies, looking and the Eddie murphy version, and some cartoons.
This and Basic instinct have so powerful soundtracks.. Jerry Goldsmith is a genious Composer, didnt he have a simillar theme to the Hollow Man OST too that aslo was a tad creepy and omnious?
I loved this as a kid! I was 6 or 8 and I watched it over and over, I need to rewatch it with my uncle now, ah, the memories...I remember we went out and he bought me something like Caroline (was that her name?) or whatever lady was pointing at the fireplace's dress. We still have a picture of that :D
As usual a classical score from Goldsmith, the only worthwhile aspect of the movie. The original was the real thing, but the score wasn't so great. The original was the scariest movie I ever saw. This remake is like a bunch of toys thrown over the floor.
OMG ! The Julie Harris version. My future husband and I with another couple were watching this movie on an enclosed back porch at her parents 2 flat, in Chicago.....on Halloween Night. We were not quite half way through the movie, when we heard someone open the downstairs outside door. Then we heard footsteps coming up the stairs....then stopped. It was late and no one was expected. We all looked at each other, felt a creepy chill come over us. We sent "our" men to investigate. There was absolutely No One there !
at 2:36 they start playing this little ditty, dose anyone know where its from and is called? because I think I've heard it from somewhere other then this movie. Its like a little luliby or something.

Is there a complete, expanded or promo score to The Haunting? I noticed that the original score is lacking a lot of what's actually in the film. Thanks again Varese Sarabande... :/
2024 Button. I am getting little Basic Instinct Vibes here. Beautiful Music. But Basic Instinct to me all in all had way more impact including the Soundtrack.
@dancentral OMG you lucky son of a ***** D= I love the music of all three so much, and of many others =O what's it called you're doing, that allows you to spend so much time on looking into their music? Also, VERY good video, this one. Put together rly, rly well.
another user uploaded a Jerry Goldsmith track from the Ghost and the Darkness with clips from the 911 terrorist attacks (explosion and aftermath). perfect fit! shortyg53 I think the username was. 911 Attacks with Jerry Goldsmith music.
@KidaMilo89 "Keep your opinions to yourself"... Oh, I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have an opinion on RUclips, yet you give YOUR opinion by saying the movie was awesome, LOL. The movie SUCKED. The vast majority of the public agrees. It gets bad reviews.
Shitty movie but the soundtrack is awesome. Btw the first hour or so of the film wasn't bad, even creepy at times...but the CGI near the end ruined it.
Terrible, AWFUL movie. But Goldsmith could use any crappy movie as the jumping-off point for evocative, interesting music. He seemed incapable of phoning it in. I suspect he'd have trouble finding work today--so many directors are afraid of assertive scores.
An (unbelievably) underrated score by Jerry Goldsmith! ❤
Till this day, this is THE Soundtrack that will always inspire me most when composing my music. What a talent and composer.
The longer Goldsmith is gone, the more I miss him.

I loved this movie..the cgi was amazing for 99 and the house breaking apart and all the statues and stuff...yes!
Read all of the comments , but for me , the movie was fantastic and the score served it well.
I miss the 90's. Better movies and music.
this is one of the few good remakes to come out in years in the horror genre, the original Robert Wise one is still great for the power of suggestion. But this is still one of the best of the remakes. And Jerry is still my favorite movie composer
Admirable score, and admirable casting choices. Must disagree about the 1999 film itself, but to each his own!
I'll always like this movie, no matter what. I thought its art direction was beautiful, and sound editing and soundtrack were great. And Lili Taylor was awesome, too.
Thank you, Mr. Goldsmith, for the memorable score.
Jerry Goldsmith music was too beautiful for this film! He should have just turn it into a concert piece!

The music is good, but this is a bad 1999 film remake. Watch the great original 1963 film instead.
Absolutely right! Robert Wise's film is 'the mother of all haunted house films'. And Humphrey Searle's score is also brilliant!

good music for a horrid movie

Decent music, horrible movie. One of the worst lead characters ever.

There's still Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, David Arnold, James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman, John Debney and John Williams.
Good movie compared to the trash streamers put out
great soundtrack. crap film.
Good music, horrible movie.
