    As a 31 year born and raised resident of VB, I surprisingly learned a couple of new facts! Also 7:42 that is not the CBBT but the HRBT. I know because I've had plenty of time sitting in traffic staring to never forget what it looks like!

    • @BillMarion
      @BillMarion  6 лет назад +3

      A JAAY thank you so much for pointing that out. I haven’t lived here long enough to identify it, which is all the more reason I should have done a better job at my research. I need to look up the difference between the two!!!! Again, I’m so grateful you watched this video and please excuse my goof! I’ll do better next time.

    • @lisaclay8206

      I refuse to use the hrbt! I don't care how backed up every other bridge is. I guarantee that vdot will have traffic moving everywhere else before they even think of hrbt. Drives me insane when people from out of town see the tunnel coming up and suddenly they have a panic attack or whatever and want to slam on the brakes. It's a tunnel...you go through it....it's not like it just suddenly appeared and they are the first people to test it out! Sheesh haha

    • @dragonson72
      @dragonson72 5 лет назад +2

      @Lisa Clay, I understand my wife hates the tunnel, and it will only get worse as they remodel and make it 4 lanes each way

    • @lisaclay8206
      @lisaclay8206 5 лет назад

      @@dragonson72 I agree. I think it's great and construction needs to be done but I doubt I will use it. I will always use the Monitor Merrimac, just seems to flow better even when there is traffic.

    • @jhart7451
      @jhart7451 5 лет назад

      I can also tell you that the West bound tunnel, which opened for 2-way traffic in 1952 is not as high as the East bound that is only 25-30 years old. Trucks are limited to a height of 13'6" West and 14"6" East.

    Moving to VA Bch in the 80s, I LOVED the winter months where I could easily stroll across Atlantic Ave without fear of being run down and wander the ocean front shops without dodging a mass of tourist. The oceanfront has changed over the years from 80s punk to internet but the soul is still around. I worked at a local restaurant/ bar and also drove cab (loved the sailors who climbed in drunk saying take me to the base...?..OK, pick one?).

They don't realize the beauty to the west in the Blue Ridge mountains and the beauty to the east in VA Beach, the Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay. The Piedmont is also beautiful but you can't judge any state by one small section.

Other than “sketchy” local politics [nepotism, cronyism, ‘good ol boy’ mentality, and developers with the City Clowncil in their pockets], NON-synchronized traffic lights, and over-development of housing [McMansions in the ‘protected’ areas …. “Sure, just sign/pay here and we’ll grant an exception -wink-wink], it’s STILL a decent place to live. I love having many choices of shopping at commissaries and military exchanges, and Portsmouth Naval Hospital is near enough to still use the remaining ‘benefits’ I earned in the service.

I'd have to look it back up, (it might be in the description) but whatever source I used was obviously wrong. The tunnel you showed was not the CBBT rt 13. You showed the HRBT Rt 64 to Hampton. The CBBT is 17 miles long. It consists of 2 different tunnels. They have 2 way traffic in the tunnels. The toll is about $17 each way. It's a wonderful drive up north. Fyi it's worth it so you do not have to drive rout 95 through DC and Baltimore. I live in Chesapeake. I do not like VA beach as a resident. It's too crowded. Not just the resort area. But, when we have guests, we play tourists. That is. Fun to do. The sound of freedom aka jet noise is always a hit. Park by. Oceana NAB. You can watch the planes taking off and landing. A free air show every day. Its pretty cool.

Chesapeake Bay has some of the best sailing in the world because of the wind. Hurricanes aren't fun but unlike earthquakes and fires we get warnings. Lots of good restaurants but many pricy. Houses cost a lot if you live on the water as are taxes. Great city workers.

    I was born in Princess Anne County. Now Virginia Beach. In 1963 when the tiny city of Va Beach an PA County merged to make the city. The promise was that it would not effect realestate taxes. And life would remain unchanged. HA. That didn’t happen. Not only did taxes go up, but we were hit with a sales tax which we didn’t have before. And regulations were rampant. I am 81 years old, and 35 years ago I moved to Chesapeake, a neighboring city, which was better then.....But now it’s business as usual.
