- Dr. Carmen Gispert discussed the biology, damage, and signs of infestation of Western grapeleaf skeletonizer. She discussed a pilot project to validate a flight sensor trap which was used to monitor the Western grapeleaf skeletonizer in wine grape vineyards. The flight sensor trap uses artificial intelligence, is wireless and has a unique sensor with a learning algorithm that recognizes the pest, and once detected, delivers alerts as text to a smart phone application or a web dashboard. Dr. Gispert discussed flight sensor traps as a promising alternative of sticky traps to monitor insects and quantify insects in real time data. The presentation also touched on control methods such as natural enemies and organic treatments.
The webinar was recorded on May 8, 2024 and targeted to growers and pest management professionals.
