White South Africans do not regard themselves as European. White South Africans developed their own language, religion and culture outside of Europe. There are 4.6 million white South Africans - more than the number of whites in New Zealand! White South Africans have mannerisms that are similar to Australians and Americans, unlike whites in South America.
***** Afrikaner is the Dutch language with a accent .. and allot of Boeren come to Holland to see there roots ,.. how do i know ?! I am Dutch my self and i understand everything she says .
Kyle Bennett And also for you Afrikaner is the Dutch language with a accent ,.. and Boeren have the same culture as us ,.. offcourse with a twist but never the less Dutch culture ,.. sometimes i understand the Afrikaners better then some dialect languages in my own country .
Ek het nou net hierdie pos gesien en my amper morsdood gelag toe jy vir Ellen vra of sy nie rokke dra nie!! Charleze, ons is baie trots op jou, Sussie!!
@TissieBacke94 Yes, Afrikaans is a West Germanic language, spoken natively in South Africa and Namibia. It is a daughter language of Dutch, originating in its 17th century dialects, collectively referred to as Cape Dutch. - Wikipedia. I totally understand everything. Cos I'm from Belgium and we talk dutch here too :D
Ellen: I don't know what this is, but KAH!! Lmao! And omg Charlize you are the most perfect woman on earth, just look at that face and that build, she's like a greek goddess seriously. And the talent she has.. Simply perfect
:) I'm south African and it's so very easy for me to understand dutch and flemish speakers, as long as they speak a bit slower and try speak more "standard" without much slang or dialect ;)
@dan1979geboren 1) hey dan!it's so interesting to see how diefferent but also similar languages can be.like dutch, german and afrikaans for example are similar to each other,well,dutch and afrikaans more than german and those two,but as a german i can understand really much of dutch and afrikaans.i don't know if you know the word "plattdütsch"?it's a little like dutch,but a german dialect.have a friend in southafrica and her parents just can speak afrikaans, so i am not able to talk to them...
If your wondering what Charlize said, "What does this dress look like on me, Does it look good?but why don't you wear dresses? You have pants on today. So how are you today"? Ellen:"Yes".
@MrPrevo1984 well,then it's like german and the old german dialect called "plattdeutsch" or "niederdeutsch". there is no translation for that in english. well, it's like dutch and the "17th century dutch" you are talking about :-) .it's pretty interesting to learn all that about languages. before i had the southafrican friend (name: alta) i didn't know anything about these issues. greetings again from germany.
Ik versta er alles van, sounds indeed alot like dutch, i'm flemish so it's a bit more easier for me to understand because it just sounds like she is from another region to me.
that's because afrikaans is derived from 17th century dutch. the dutch used to control south africa, which is where she's from. but it doesn't sound sweet
Actually her mother is of German and French heritage, and was born in South Africa not in Germany, so thats why she speaks Afrikaans, which is the most common language spoken by white South Africans, followed by English.
@TissieBacke94 true, I'm duch and I can understand everything she said. Some words are different because of the other influences, but most of it sounds practically the same :)
I know exactly how it is being accused for something i'm not. I get that a lot, But I am Afrikaans, so I have to live up with being accused all the time. Everybody is against Africa for no reason. I am just defending my country. I am sorry if I did something wrong, or you took it the wrong way. But everyday, here in Africa, we have to live with the insults and racism we get. So when someone insults my country, it's like a built-in instinct to start defending it. I'm sorry, but I'm used to it.
I love how Charlize Theron still embraces here Afrikaner heritage and that she still proudly speaks her language!
Her heritage is Dutch, but okay.
I Am Simply Too Smart Nope, Afrikaner. No connection with Europe.

stiekem zijn wij vanuit nederland ook trots op haar
verspreid het afrikaans en daarmee ook een beetje het nederlands
She always seems so earnest and shy. So its very funny to see her like this.
@EmilysStar Lol!! That's how swahili sounds to the south african language sotho!
funny, how Ellen tries to get more animal noises from Charlize.. Lovely Clip and so funny.
i could just keep listening to her for daaaay! gorgeous woman
Zo raar om haar Afrikaans te horen praten (als Nederlander versta ik het gewoon allemaal natuurlijk) maar wel lachen
afrikaans sounds just like little dutch children who are beginning to speak, so funny :D
@Napoleon501ste thank you so much.. :)

Ellen is sooo funny! :D aND Charlize is AMAZING!
Ik versta er alles van, sounds indeed alot like dutch, i'm flemish so it's a bit more easier for me to understand because it just sounds like she is from another region to me.
@TissieBacke94 yes, it's very similar to dutch, but i think not exactly similar.
the interview is so Hilarious

Damn she's gorgeous! And she speaks Afrikaans!:)
@TissieBacke94 yes its similar
i'm from belgium and i understand almost everything what they say
I've always wanted to learn more than one language so I think, other then German I'll learn Afrikaans because it sounds so cool.
@TissieBacke94 Yes it is.
"So how's it going with you today?"
"YES"
Charlize; "So hoe gaan dit met jou vandag? Dit gaan goed neh?"
that was so disrespectful. im sure charlize wasn't having any of it
Yeah Ellen was pretty rude. Thats an actual language? Wow.
haha I'm from Belgium so I could understand every single word she said in Afrikaans. So weird :D
@lesskivvy
haha dit is zo raar om te lezen
het lijkt zo veel op nederlands maar toch ook weer niet
@ambylious that's because afrikaans is based on dutch and english :)
This is so funny, all those animal noises *lol*
ahahah dat was nederlands : ) BIG SMILe ...
Hoe gaat het met jou vandaag? ahahah LOL.
that's because afrikaans is derived from 17th century dutch. the dutch used to control south africa, which is where she's from. but it doesn't sound sweet

Actually her mother is of German and French heritage, and was born in South Africa not in Germany, so thats why she speaks Afrikaans, which is the most common language spoken by white South Africans, followed by English.
Her mother is of dutch and german heritage, her father french and dutch. Charlize is mostly dutch, like most of Boers/Afrikaners
@NJMoviemaker thank you for your concrete answer, neighbor :D (cos I'm from Germany) ;)
@TissieBacke94 true, I'm duch and I can understand everything she said. Some words are different because of the other influences, but most of it sounds practically the same :)
why didnt they spell her name Thron in english? that would be a more accurate translation of the actual pronounciation
@dado724 No when she speaks Afrikaans it sounds like a South African. But her Enlgish speaking doesn't sound South African at all.
Afrikanns is derived from netherlands and netherlands is derived from german... thats it (I speak both languages)
