Ms. Chisholm had more courage and heart than a lot of men in congress. I am glad, proud that she was in congress for so many years and...she was from Brooklyn as I am.
Rest in peace and birthday wishes to Shirley Chisholm 11 30. I am glad I was young when I heard her speak. There has been such a light in my life ever since
Today most people are remembering Martin Luther King. He was great an all but today Im remembering Shirley Chisholm, first black woman ran for president. Because I feel unlike the black male revoluntionaries, she is either forgotton or unknown by most.

She made us, some of us, proud. Being well ahead of her time. Those of us who got it. Learned some things I didn't know about her in this wonderful, candid, interview. Thank you for posting it. History revealed.
It's so extremely good to see her face again. My role model when it comes to shaping yourselves for the real Black journey in this European patterned world. Barbara Jordan was another pioneer in politics that the US was afraid of. Both are my HEROES when it comes to the Black movements that took and takes place in crooked America. Much Love Ms. CHISLOM AND Barbara JORDAN. Other than Yashua, my mom, you two rank highly in my life. BRAVO!
-Decades before Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, there was Shirley Chisholm. As the first black woman to run for president for a major political party she was years ahead of her time. ... She was a pioneer for her generation, a woman of many firsts - the first African American ..
While I didn't see eye to eye with her on everything politically, I have a tremendous respect for her and people like her and I think that she would've made a great president.
Maybe through her they saw redemption, from the sins of the past, this Powerful, Strong, Intelligent, Compassionate Woman, they didn't listen then, now they have no Choice!!!
I love Ms. Chisolm. May she continue to R.I.P. She gets over looked as one of the first Blacks to run for president. I love how she calmly and politely says she told Mayor Lindsey ...." no this is my time".
Too funny. Yes, Shirley was black, but Shirley certainly wasn't a female, lol. We Americans were easily fooled back then and NEVER considered that a man would actually pretend to be a woman. We all know better, now and the joke is on us!
Shirley Chilson is an American hero. She should be as well known to our kids as MLK is, and it's a tragedy to my mind that this is not so. Especially to our daughters.
She would have been one of the Great presidents. What a great lady, so ahead of her time. Integrity. She had it.
+Mitchel Evans Yes!
Mitchel Evans SO TRUE. SHE WAS BADDDDD (as in INCREDIBLE) THE late 60's, 70's !

I voted for her in the first presidential primary that I was legally eligible to vote in.

You're absolutely right. I am just finding out about her because of Regina King. She is making a movie about her life.
