  • I love a plant that will survive a Texas winter and flower 12 months out of the year. For my part of Texas, that flower is a begonia. If I forget to water them in the boiling summer, they may give up on me, but for the most part, water and shade along with an occasional trim keeps them blooming year round. I don't like to spend a lot on a pot of plants that is going to remain in the pot, simply because it means that I risk losing money should I forget to water them. I don't know why but since I retired, I often forget my potted plants. I love to find healthy plants on clearance, but it doesn't often happen. I feel blessed that I got the petunias on the cheap.

We do not have a specific yard waste day here. We have large garbage days periodically. They give notice with the water bill on what day it will be-- usually last day of the month every quarter. I always keep my eyes open on my walks. I would love to find free plants. I found two lantana's growing in the ditch this morning outside a vacant lot and went back to get them as they will soon be mowed when the city mows ditches. I put them in a pot to keep them from spreading across my whole yard. 🙂
