My life wont be complete until my van gets featured on one of your videos!
A very good detailed sum-up TMF. My XE replaced a Speed Twin early this summer and can sum-up very simply - far from perfect when analysed - but without doubt he most enjoyable bike I have owned.
Wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment Farmer. My only negative after 3k on this bike, the seat! Quite uncomfortable after a couple of hours in the saddle.
Scrambler better than Speed Twin?
Ummm 🤔 better, best etc are all strong words - they are very different bikes - however the Speed Twin needs to be the probably coming R version to compete - particularly brakes and suspension - for me The Scrambler is more suitable for UK roads and just more fun !
Moved from a GSA to a 1200XE and it feels light by comparison!
Spot on review imho.
I bought the scrambler 1200xc for all the positives you highlighted and I'm 6ft so speed twin is a bit too small.
It's funny how the feeling one gets from a machine has the final say in the decision making process. I couldn't decide between the MT-10 SP & Speed triple RS. Got on the XC and it made the decision for me.
It's a looker and even the most uninterested in bikes people comment on how good it looks.
Took a couple of pics in Henley this summer alongside a super duke R. Both bikes look amazing snapped together.
PS. I also have a white transit van. Sorry about that !
Nobody’s perfect...!
Morning, Andy!
It’s great to hear your thoughts on the Scrambler 1200, but your van ‘review’ at the end had me chuckling away 😂
All the best,
Andy 🏴
Glad you stuck around for it Andy!
Mr Flyer you never cease to make me laugh heartily. That “White Van” montage at the end , was over the top funny. Oh and the review...... well...as always a fair and honest take. I’ve come to expect that of your channel. Thanks 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸
I appreciate the detailed review on the XC. Most of the reviews so far are on the XE.
Which is why I borrowed the XC 😉
That ending... just classic!
When I first bought mine, yes, moving it around was not easy but I soon got used to it and my driveway is on a slope and difficult to navigate. I would also like to add , living in the Blue Mountains nr Sydney Australia I do a fair amount of 'off road ' riding on sandy firetrails. On the straight sections I sit comfortably at 50kmh and not once have I felt like I was going to lose it. Awesome both on and off road.
Neil, have you experienced any excessive heat from the engine or pipes? So many bikes I've tried lately produce too much heat for me. I live in Texas - it is hot here!
@@CarlB558 some heat from pipes but not to the extent it worries me. I wear a decent pair of full length adventure boots (forma) which really helps too. I did a 6hr coastal ride last week and it was fairly hot days no problem at all from pipes. Only negative was seat. You're bum thanks you for a break after 2hrs riding. Otherwise very comfortable riding position!
23,000 miles in with heated grips here, wearing nicely, did have to replace left one at 7000 miles button stopped working
I love watching all these videos by TMF, he's honest, believable and a "normal guy" like most of us I guess. . But my heart skips a beat every time he takes his mitts off the bars when talking.
Sorry about that Andy!
Looks & sounds great. Love the van thing at the end 🤣
Thanks for sticking around until the end Cotti!
Triumph has never been on my radar because several irate Triumph customers (one lady was screaming that her husband bought a brand new bike and it wouldn't run long enough for them to get it home after several tries) were in the dealership when I bought, serviced, visited that dealer for my Ducati a couple of decades ago. So many people complaining about the Triumph bikes, I just thought they must be crap.
Before your videos, I would never have stopped by and checked these out at one of the local dealers. I was holding out for a GS, but now....I don't know.
Good analysis. However, once this bike is in motion off-road, it is incredibly agile and easy to chuck around. I'm coming from a KTM 690 Enduro which only weighs 320lbs, but is very tall. The Scrambler blows it away for fun and ease on dirt roads in California. It also looks ridiculously sexy compared to any adventure bike. Ive kept my klx250s for super hard trails, but i can't wait to jump on the big scrambler 1200 for anything else.
Has anyone else noticed the proliferation of white vans since TMF started posting? Clearly, what’s needed is a TMF series of white van comparison reviews; chats behind the wheel and video walk-arounds included. Indeed, I’ll put off buying one until it happens!
Actually I’m quite tempted!
Very enjoyable video, the piece at the end had me laughing with the vans. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your deliberations on the Scrambler 1200 XC, TMF; I think we concur. I want to add another Triumph to my stable, which includes a 2009 Street Triple, and I have been considering both this machine and the Speed Twin. I've test ridden both the Scrambler 1200 XE and the Speed Twin, and this summary has convinced me even more that the Speed Twin is the bike for me. 👍
Depends what style of riding you wish to do. My xc is awesome on and off road and also loads up well with roll bag and single pannier. If I were looking at purey day trips on road I probably would have gone the st.
Not so many "white vans" at weekends!
Agreed feels top heavy & tall but a beauty to look at! Good final summary TMF
Cheers as ever Iain....
Can you please start a series on food , wine , and beer ?Perhaps, a cooking show, thank you ! Your recent series from Spain was great ! Please consider. Good day.
You’ve single handedly rekindled my respect for Great Britain....at least for motorcyclists.
Glad to hear it!
thanks mr flyer your reviews are the best.
I think these look great other than the mirrors, they'd have to go for some bar ends. Nicely done again TMF, thanks as always.
I considered this on mine but these mirrors work extremely well and I opted for function over form in the end.
Oh yeah Baby! Silver Van! I did enjoy the Van-outro
Good last review Tmf the bike looks great and I would buy one in next 2/3 years time .thanks from Danny
I had one for a day didn't take to it. My str was in for it's mot. but I do like the look of them
Great review of the Scrambler . I must admit I like a bigger bike but that’s probably a bit heavy. Nice to see you’re a van expert now as as well! Can we expect a review or two? 😉😂
Not the first to suggest that!
This weekend is a Triumph demo day. Looking forward to trying the speed twin. It is certainly top of my list to upgrade my ride to.
This is a sign from higher forces that you should do a review of a white van ;-). Great review TMF
all my bikes are too heavy, I agree with you, great video's thanks
I have to agree. Tall seat height and weight would be a deal breaker for me too
About the weight issue.....strange how people have different views.....I had an Africa Twin which I did find heavy but I don't feel the same issue with this bike. Im 5 ft 8 and around 12 stone........the bike doesn't feel top heavy to me.
Another great summary...thanks!
Good final review Andy. Two things, your point about the weight is not IMO nit picking, it is a very valid point. By stating this fact, from the perspective of an average height person you give others the ability to look at new purchases with sufficient knowledge to make informed decisions. Lets be honest, we all look at new bikes with Rose tinted bifocals and its too late to find out that your new bike is top heavy after you have dropped it and scratched the nice shiny paint just maneuvering it around your driveway (unlike a Boxer twin Triumphs fall ALL the way down.
And number two. Just think, after Brexit all the vans will be the same model of British engineering cause no one will be able to afford all those exotic European jobbies because of the exorbitant import duties.LOL.
As a Transit Custom short wheelbase (high roof) van owner just wondered if you had a particular favourite van to be stuck behind?
Great question! Hadn’t really thought about it really....leave it with me....
Just as a regular biker, the VW Transporter . It looks nice and isn't too big.
@@SuperchargedLlama If it were the 2.0L TDI I'm not sure TMF would stay with one of those
@@Banditmanuk yeah they shift don't they!
Fog lamps - "not sure if they are standard". It's a Triumph, you are lucky to get an engine! The lamps cost a mere £305.
Cheaper than BMW ones!
Weight. I love my Speed Twin. Recently got a second hand Street Triple S. It is oh so much easier to manually handle. Weight does make a big difference.
Sure does - one of the key factors when I consider a bike....
Yes I would have the Speed Twin over the Scramblers too. Pretty much the same reasons you say.
Plus high exhausts are not to my taste. Saying that the Scramblers are nice machines.
What I really need is a Thruxton like seat for my Speed Twin that I can swap out for when I am solo.
Don't think you've told us much about the Sp Twin yet, like how you come to choose it when you had a RE on order and what's the story on the personalised number plate.
Maybe a vid overdue on the merits of the ST?
Yes there'll be more to come on my Speed Twin - stay tuned!
You must have known that I decided to take day off lol another good watch 😎☝️glad you loved the scrabbler such a good road bike as well as off-road 🇬🇧🏍 I took to your channel having watched so many others , but your reviews , opinions , and feedback are always honest , and pretty much spot on 😎☝️you should have been a development test rider , 😎☝️🏍👌 🇬🇧🏍 look forward to the next instalment,
Thank you BB appreciated!
Thanks for that. They are great engines aren’t they relaxing ride, although I only have my T120 to compare it with. Yes I was thinking watching that your Speed Twin, which is under 200 kg, is a lighter option and perhaps easier to keep clean. Mind you, if your start adding a centre stand and other accessories the Speed Twin will get heavier.
Yes the Speed Twin works better for me for sure - hence why I have one rather than the Scrambler.....
Great review, again, I'm 5' 7" with a 29" inside leg so this model could work for me, but get rid of your gravel drive, I hate moving my 300klo+ Thunderbird on that stuff!
I don't have a gravel drive any more - for that very reason!
Would you recommend a 1700 storm model
Yes Dan I would, lovely unstressed ride for engine and rider, 1600/1700 are great really, but the LT 1700 has strange engine sounds from the pistons called clacking! So have s listen before buying those!
Fab videos again well pleased with your content and I noticed are you wearing new gloves 👍
I highly recommend the 900cc Street Scrambler. over the 1200. On paper the 1200 might be better but i think the 900 is a more consistent bike. Not as heavy, more easy and more fun to ride...
Perhaps on, but off road? Better suspension, ground clearance, off road rider modes, I could keep going.....xc is a much better all rounder.
As Harley owner I find it amusing when people say the Scrambler 1200 is a heavy bike. Having owned a 300 kg bike for a couple of years I really am thinking how it would feel making trips with a feather weight bike like the Scrambler 😅
Another great video TMF keep them coming. Recently I’ve been riding my partner’s CB125F and due to the bike’s low weight it’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, it’s easy to maneuver and filtering is a doddle. In future reviews would it be possible for you to include some riding footage shot from an observer’s perspective? It would be useful to see you riding the bike so that we can get an idea of a bike’s size.
Sadly as a one man production crew that’s pretty hard for me to do....otherwise I certainly would. Thanks for watching!
Most of my travelling is 2 up these days. Any chance of adding the pillion and loaded up option to the review?
Good stuff.
Happy travels
Ps. As for Van's, have you never pulled up alongside one at the lights and thought," Ah, the meaty throb of a direct injection turbo diesel. If only I could know more,,"...
Very nice van montage
I look forward to the white van comparison video. Would be a good release for April 1. I do agree about the weight of the Scramblers, major turn off for this Bonneville owner.
You wait for a comet to fly by, and at last some WV review berthage. Now we need the specs of each one, for the careful buyer.
You should have a secondary Missenden Van Man channel.
I’m starting to wonder if I should!
I hope you are going to review the new 900 street scramblers as they are claiming more power overall and more low end torque. Thank you for reviewing this one. I am your height and was wondering about the top weight
I’ve heard that Triumph will produce smaller capacity bikes which will hopefully be much lighter. I don’t know why Triumph push big 1200cc bikes that are too heavy. I would like Triumph to build smaller twins that are capable of going off road. Maybe 650 to 700?
👍
Watch out for RE, surely about to do something in this segment and a good deal cheaper than the street scrambler currently on offer
Still probably the use of steel as opposed to Alloys makes a lot of bikes heavier.I am surprised that some motorbike manufacturers still cannot minimise weight by using more high tech materials that can still look good
Steel (of which there are many, many varieties!) is still generally better for these kind of frames: less vibrations than aluminum, and stronger w.r.t. torque effects. A Scrambler 1200 is only about 20-30kg heavier than most liter sports bikes (an R1 is 203kg wet and a Scrambler 1200 about 230kg) - 13% heavier. Noticeable for sure, but a lot of that is in the larger engine, heavier wheels, and extras.
How does this compare with the ducati 1100 scrambler? is the ducati lighter with a shorter seat height ?
Yes and yes! Love the looks of the Triumph but the Ducati was easier to live with for me…
I didn't realize you're so close to Hinkley. I had a German bike and it went back to Berlin , but I think it just changed planes.
Not sure I follow????
TMF, As you are a van magnet, can you publish your routes ahead of any excursions so I can avoid the area...you could offer it as a service to the rest of us!
:0)
Great summing up.
Thanks
Is that *another* set of gloves and different jacket? Kit Corner is going to be good this winter...
Nice One TMF, have to disagree with you saying you're knitpicking, far from it, struggling to move a heavy/tall bike is a fundamental blocker to a purchase.
It is for me Jeff for sure....hence why I went Speed Twin....
One day you’ll find yourself following a white van with a TMF sticker on the back!
How cool would that be!
TMF ~ White Van Connoisseur Extraordinaire (W'VC'E) 👍🇬🇧
Thks.
I like the scrambler style. I've recently ridden a Ducati scrambler (803cc) around Mallorca. I wondered what your opinion was of this Ducati and if you've reviewed one? The main thing for me was the low seat as I'm a bit of a shortie at 5' 6". Incidentally, there's some great mountain roads in Mallorca with fabulous views.
Yes I have reviewed the Ducati Scrambler...and yes, Mallorca is biking heaven (I got back from there two weeks ago!)....
Lovely review, Have seen all your reviews regarding Scrambler XC.
Thoroughly enjoyed.
But tell you what, the Speed twin wont take u places as this one will.....
And those side double barrel exhaust❤❤
But I’m a lot less likely to drop the Speed Twin and more likely to get it out of the garage 🤓
Now which white van should I get next....mmm
Nice honest review and it really is a handsome package. Good job! And when is your "TMF book of white vans" released for Christmas? Oh, and why don't you turn it all around and review a white van one day, just for fun.
You’re not the first to suggest that!
I think you should do a review of a white van! How many coffee cups and copies of The Sun can you get on the dashboard etc.
Many people are asking me for white van reviews - I may just have to bow to pressure!
Royal Endfield make good retro biks as well, but yes the Scrambler is a great looking bike.
Indeed they do!
The bike is exactly what it appears to be from all indications. I've sat on one at the dealership and do like it. The ending montage of the vans had me laughing. Well done!
Lovely bike, but I still prefer the looks of the Street Scrambler and I wonder, in view of your comments any the size/weight of this bike, whether its a better option for a retro scrambler. Any chance of a review of the updated 2019 model?
Yes possibly - stay tuned!
It must be awkward when a manufacturer lends you a bike for review, and you have some negative comments about it. But the only reviews worth having for the public are honest reviews, and at the end of the day it's only your opinion, but if it involves a part of the bike that clearly has a problem then everybody wins when it's sorted out.
Can you get the seat lowered? For me my problem is my 30 inch inseam :(
There’s always a way! Might be difficult though...
Good video TMF
Will we see you at the motorbike show this weekend at the NEC
Regards
Paul
+James Taylor think he said he's 'on tour' and will only be at the show on the last Sunday (from a previous vid) On his ear protection sponsors stand.
Correct - I shall be at the Nec on the 24th on the CFG stand from 12:00
I think I’ll go for the Silver Mercedes, 😊
Nice choice!
Great review. How about adding a van reviews to your bike reviews ? As a (silver VW transporter) van driver I would welcome it :)
Be nice to have seen it side by side with the speed twin. Guess It’s an excuse to pop down to the dealers 😯
I recorded this before I bought the Speed Twin....
Hey fella, would you be able to do a review of the Benelli Bn 302? Looking to get one after I pass my test but no credible source has reviewed one, well other then MCN but I feel you'll give a more enjoyable take on it. :) Cheers.
Sadly I do t have access to one - if I did, I would!
You should do a video on vans😉
You’re not the first to suggest it!
Oh bother🤪
How is it to drive with passengers?
Dunno!
hi where is your speed twin it must feel neglected anyway nice reviews thx
It’s quite happy - more videos coming on that soon (probably!)....
Van central! :D
Lovely looking bike! Would be interested on your take of the new Street Scrambler now it has a bit more power and better brakes. Significantly cheaper than the 1200 over here in NZ, not to mention lower and lighter too. Clearly not as powerful or well equipped, but perhaps for the real world - without any serious off road requirements - it's all the bike that's needed?
I agree!
It's pretty, but I wish it was a bit more scrambler-y...
Great video, I had an idea for a fun video... if you could compare a 60’s triumph Bonneville or Scrambler with a new one! I like them both looks and sound but not sure about the ride? Cheers.
If you have a 60's Bonnie to lend me bring it on! ;0)
I’ve been looking for one reasonably priced in good condition!
I nice bike , mite wait until the warmer weather to try 1 👍🏻
Ps when’s the gold top leather jacket 🧥 going to be featured
As you said on 1 evenings bike meet ; a wait with baited breath ☹️
Cheers🍺🇬🇧 mark.
Yes I really must get around to that!
TheMissendenFlyer yes please
A do fancy 1 of those jackets 🍺🇬🇧👍🏻keep up the good reviwes
another good review with the typical; "....another white van", "walk around in the usual way", LOL
Hi TMF , ever heard of benelli? They made a bike that I swear looks like ducati diavel but it's a 500cc A2 licence friendly. It's called 502c . I swear this is a major turning point for all benelli fans. Review pleaseeeeeee. Only 5000£!!!!!!
I believe it's actually a Chinese bike with benelli written on it i wouldn't trust it to ride well or last long
@@stuartb1963 I think is a chinese wallet but italian build quality. Which is probably as bad as chinese lool. I would love to see an honest a true review, hence I turned to TMF. Will see , i want to give benelli the benefit of doubt. Might backfire since i am very seriously thinking of buying one.
TMF you most defiantly have a van fetish ! Seek help !
Nice video about the scrambler, cheers.
Have you fell out with your gs
Certainly not! Just don’t get much chance to ride it these days!
You have to do some white van Merchandise TMF
PS : Had a good laugh at your article in MCN
Glad you saw it!
Ah, top-heavy...whatever. I have a BMW K100RT and you can't even sneeze, breathe or turn your head while you maneuver that around in the garage - it will take you down before you even have time to let go. I don't drop it anymore, but it scares the crap out of me, like it's tipping over, pretty much every time I touch it.
That’s e of the reasons I love the GS - low COG wins every time!
This is one of the best looking bikes I've seen in years IMHO. Just one question ,did Triumph call you an Uber to get home?
:0)
I just viewed this, i also am short of space and moving bikes is my biggest issue, i wonder if you have tried a centre stand dolly? Plenty on the market your bobbly garage floor wont be an issue with some, i want yo buy one bit dont know which one the Americans seem to be ahead of the game with CSDollys bit shipping costs are ridiculous as always, we left the EU and failed to capitalise on our best market 🤷🏻♂️ they still want to charge import fees from the USA 🤦🏻♂️ but not China, makes no sense
Indeed! ...and no I've not tried one but love the idea of it if it would work on my textured floor....
Nice bike & vid but not really my cup of tea tbh. There are are many other Triumph's I'd have over this first. Plus I'm pretty much the same size as you so height & weight are always major factors for me too when considering a bike. Anything over about 220kg wet starts to put me off.
Dear TMF, enjoyed the final review however,I note with interest the countryside in your area looks remarkably er Summery! Whilst the rest of us are freezing to death and or learning to Kayak!it seems to me that your part of the world looks positively tropical! Trees in full verdant display ?Climate change in Bucks really has had a profound effect!Just an observation.😁
Well spotted - I record well in advance of course, I think this was done back in June!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Of course, always enjoy your posts and thanks for getting back to me.Paul
Maybe TMF may be branching out into van review's soon?
No chance....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Would lead to particularly dull walkrounds outside the PMs abode
I’ve narrowed my next bike down to two. This and the Bonneville T120 Black. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to test drive a Triumph in my US State so I’ll ask: if you could only choose one, which would it be?
,
I’d take the T120....
Thank you for posting. A quick question and then an unrelated rant. :) Why do you think the scrambler is so much awkward to handle than the SpeedTwin? Don't they have the same engine, basically, the same transmission, hardware and setup? Interested in your take. Now the unrelated rant. Have the folks in the UK experienced the new RUclips layout? To me it is horrible(would like to use obscene language but I am afraid of being banned). I have, easily, hundreds of "recommendations" (when prior to the change I had near zero) from RUclips that must be removed manually one at a time. Incredibly frustrating. I only subscribe to maybe 15 channels. I have no interest in gossip channels, no interest in cat channels, music channels, etc... Please make it go away!! I know you can do it. :) End of rant.
Basically size and height - Speed Twin is lower and easier to manage imo....
