Yes, I like you slowing down and showing your process. There are tons of fast, perfectly edited videos. They give the impression that you just snap your fingers and in 30 minutes see up a perfect garmet. Those of us who have sewn for years know that is not reality. Look forward to watching the upcoming videos.
I love sewing creators who slow down and really show more of the in-depth process. For me, so much more interesting than a start-to-finish 20 min video! Loved this video so much-very relatable to how many of us create. 💛
haha, I have definitely worn a thrifted coat, before washing 😂 I enjoy the planning part of sewing, but I still find myself thinking "now what?!" or "where do I begin?" sometimes, so I really appreciate you sharing the prep process of your projects. Also, thank you for talking about sewing for your style vs. just sewing what's trending. I'm excited to see how your projects turn out!
Thank you for sharing your planning, prep and thought processes. It’s all learning opportunities for those of us starting out or just getting back into sewing again after an absence. Plus, it’s Saturday morning here in Australia and the perfect video with a cup of tea❤️.
Made my coffee and cozied up to watch your video! I love this style. I don’t think many sewers crank out projects like many RUclips videos would lead us to believe. Sewing clothes takes intention, time, and money! Don’t feel like you put pressure on yourself to make start to finish 20 minute project videos. While we do love them, making those consistently isn’t sustainable in the long run and could cause RUclips video making/sewing burnout. I love this intentional sewing video and it gives me ideas for my planning of future projects. For instance, what a good idea to order swatches!! Never occurred to me for some reason. Lol. Anyway, loving your content ❤
Yes, yes, yes to everything you said! I also realized that I absolutely LOVE watching other RUclipsrs who are just continually working through long projects and not always finishing them in one video (and I especially love watching/listening to people share their creative process!). So I am glad it is interesting! Thanks so much for the comment and for watching!
I liked seeing your process, especially how you approached copying the thrifted blazer. Your calm demeanor is very relaxing to watch. Looking forward to seeing the next steps. 😊
You have some great projects to work on! It was cool to see the swatches, I've never ordered any but I can see how valuable they are when making an important fabric decision! You mentioned re-lining your thrifted coat - if that's a process you'd like to share I'd love to see it! I have a coat with ripped lining and I was just going to try stitching it back together or maybe patching it, but it would be great to re-line it entirely! And this was the first time I've seen your dog - so cute ☺️❤️🐕
Glad you liked seeing the swatches! I really love looking through them. And it just gives me ideas for more projects (not sure if that is good or bad haha). One day I would love to share the process of re-lining the coat. It needs a little TLC! Thanks so much for watching!
Watching you fabricate a pattern from your blazer was extremely interesting. I enjoyed watching your process. I like the way it demystify’s the construction of the garment. I certainly look forward to seeing the rest of your progress. The wool samples looked gorgeous.
I recently recommended your channel because you present so much information, you're very realistic about how long it takes to make a quality garment, and instructive about the details of the process (not overly aspirational or bordering on fast fashion to push out content) so I like these kinds of videos a lot! I am also glad you decided to go for more of a trench- inspired coat. I find that the less shaped garments aren't as flattering on me because of my shape and as a taller woman, I feel like I look too bulky in them. Going with the idea of a trench but with tailoring to suit your shape makes so much more sense.
Thank you so much for recommending my channel! So glad to know you enjoy what I am putting out here :) And I totally agree with you about the less-shaped garments--I always feel happiest in a more tailored/fitted garment. I am also tall so I feel like oversized silhouettes make me look like an amazon woman haha.
THANK YOU for showing how to change a yoke to a dart. Pivoting out darts are like those old geometry problems where if someone shows me the answer it’s obvious, but I can get very stuck working it out for myself.
I LOVE patterning videos and getting to see your thought process as you make mods. I'm going to try the push pin copy technique on a shirt. Good stuff!
Great video!! Watching the process of modifying existing patterns makes me feel able to tackle that. Showing the process of making a pattern from a ready made garment was great to learn. I am a longtime sewer but never really tried doing this. More like this please.❤
I would love to see more videos of you using your Lutterloh system and adapting teaching how to use it with your existing pattern pieces that you've used.
I learn to slow things down when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Disease. It doesn’t effect my hands. I have problems standing and stooping. After my breast cancer diagnosis I embraced life with laughter and attitude (like I didn’t have that before). It scared my husband and children. Since I am a survivor and never have felt sorry for myself it has brought my blended family even closer.(this also includes my step children’s mom). Embrace the failures as much as accomplishments.
I would love seeing more of your technique on resizing / tweaking vintage patterns and I can't wait to see how you make your coat...BTW, I absolutely love the GREEN wool fabric. That is such a rich color green and I bet it will look fabulous on you. I used to have a green suede coat back in the day and I wore that thing out. Well, I'm excited to see all your plans come to fruition. Oh !!! I've made two Lulu Cardigans now, one with the peplum and one without and I love them. You are a master at drafting patterns. Ok, have a good week. Thanks for all the time you put into sharing with us. 🪡
Ok good! I hope to share more on fitting the vintage pattern soon! And I love the green wool too. So far it has been a viewer favorite! Thanks so much for making Lulu! So glad you are enjoying it!
The Dark Green Alberini wool/cashmere is THE ONE! I really liked the double-faced wools as well .. have you looked at the unlined, wrap/tie coats that are so popular in the UK this fall? I think it would suit your style, and, since it needs height to wear well, it would look great on you.
I think you may be right! I love the green! And I was thinking that wool double cloth would be so perfect for an unlined wrap coat with a shawl collar!
I really enjoyed this video. I'm a huge fan of you slowing down and showing us your planning process. Also, I loved what you said on the last video about the empowerment that you have found from sewing your own clothing. I've been sewing my clothing for the last four years and have found the same to be true.
I love love this video. I really like the in depth approach and research into making your chosen garments, and using clothes you already have has a basis for a pattern, even down to ordering the samples, which is something I never do but should, especially for more expensive fabrics. Always look so forward to your vlogs, they do inspire me. Look forward to continuing on your journey with you 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for your video Casey, inspirational as always. The pin use is very good to know. I love that you work backwards from what you want to wear, it's ace 👍
Ahh, I feel this in my bones, multiple started projects that’s in the works now. I agree with the commenter, it takes me forever just to make a short Reel. Thanks for making the effort to create ones with multiple angles and long form. I went to Mood In NYC over the summer, took pictures of the lot number and fabric only to see that quite a few was not listed online. I have FOMO about ordering swatches but then have it sell out when I go to buy the actual yardage. So my plan is to go to Toronto using the Just Get it Done fabric store location list. There is SO many in Toronto. With the strong USD, i think now is a good time to buy in Canada.
Oh, I have tried TikTok and it is so much WORK! haha I feel old now because I literally edit videos for RUclips weekly, but reels and tiktok feel so overwhelming to me. I also worry about fabrics going out of stock...hopefully they'll have what I want when I order (probably tonight because they are having a sale!)
Thank you Casey for another great video. I’ve been struggling with my sewing lately and this video has really helped and inspired me to just slow down and go with the flow. You are such an inspiration. I look forward to seeing your progress on theses projects whilst working on my own. ❤
I am really enjoying listening to your thought process and watching you go through deciding on fabric and patterns as until I actually cut out a garment it might be a totally different pattern that I had originally planned. I also liked the process that you went through with the trench as I have a JJill jacket that I love and fabric that I actually wove but I've been too cautious to think about copying it, but you've inspired me on that one!! It's just nice to follow someone that I see going through the same project planning as I do at home!! Suzanne
Thank you, Suzanne! So glad you enjoyed that. I was kind of anticipating that copying the blazer would be too frustrating, but it ended up being so enjoyable! Hopefully when I make a muslin, it will fit the same as the actual blazer haha.
So fun, Casey! Thanks for sharing! I love that grey fabric...like a dove grey. A recent preference of mine. I thought I couldn't wear grey but got my colours done recently and turns out I can. Yay. Anyway, I'd love to see how you copied the sleeve from your jacket. I've had two sewing fails this week and I'm feeling like I suck, but thankfully that doesn't happen too often!!! I'll enjoy your sewing week while I forget my own! Looking forward to your next instalment! x
Ah, sorry to hear about the sewing fails! Glad you enjoyed the video and I may try to show how i drafted the sleeve in an upcoming video (it was a little more involved than the other pieces and I was thinking while drafting it that I should share it but I was too lazy to film it haha).
I love watching your process- I really relate to your way of planning, I’ve got a lot of projects in my brain too, this inspired me to do some strategizing to get the ball rolling on all of it ❤️
I love the format of your video, just planning and prep towards your projects. I am with you on the slow careful sewing. I have been really sick the last 3 weeks and am trying to get caught up on my quilting business as it is now way behind. I have my garment projects calling me and really can't wait to get back to them. I have 3 things cut out ready to start sewing. Guess it will be a couple weeks before I have time again.
Love the slowing down and enjoying the creative process and not being in fast productivity mode. I think it makes it more accessible to new sewists to see ALL the steps and considerations involved in making a garment, and all of us who have been doing it for awhile are saying "YES!". Silly question: Why is there a penny taped to your curve ruler? Is this a sewing secret??
So so glad! Thank you! And the pennies raise the ruler off the paper so it doesn't smudge the marker/pen ink. I learned that in architecture school! haha, just one of the many things that translate to sewing from my first career! :)
I enjoy process videos that are not only start-to-finish tutorials become that's not all sewing is. I often roll around many different ideas and pattern/fabric combos before I choose what to make so I like seeing your process. I have a dark green coat I love so I'm kinda hoping you choose that first green fabric for your coat. (But I also have a grey coat I wear a lot too so you can't go wrong either way!) Thanks for sharing.
I loved going through the fabric and pattern selection for your next projects with you!! It helped me to follow your thought process and give me ideas of what to think about as I make those decisions. The green wool you picked for the coat is beautiful! I also loved the grey houndstooth and would love to see that made into something!! I’m so looking forward to seeing the projects as they evolve!! Have a great weekend!😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed that! I love looking through the samples. Gives me all sorts of ideas! Now I have to pick a fave or two, which is tough haha. Thanks for following along! :) Have a nice weekend!
I loved that you showed us all the samples and sharing with your thought process. You seem more relaxed knowing you don't have to finish a project in 30 min. or so. I like when you share what you are thinking because it feels more intriguing to us. I esp. love when you show how to do things exactly like restyling your jean pattern. Now, I was disappointed you didn't show enough on making the jacket pattern since a lot of us hack as well. I could use all the tips you could share. Thanks again for an informative and entertaining video.! I also would have to choose between the green and grey. I made a lined trench coat and it is a great addition to my wardrobe. I'm looking forward to your coming makes. P.S. If it isn't too personal: what do you do on your job? You have had and have an interesting life.
Thanks so much, Lavada! Glad you enjoyed seeing my thought process. And I design sewing patterns and run this youtube channel as my full time job. I used to be an architect, but stopped doing that about 8 years ago after starting my own business.
It takes a lot of planning and organizing to do any project. I’m planning two projects for my new granddaughter due in December. I’m planning a simple blanket and a keepsake box that I will burn in her name and decoupage.
I enjoyed this video! I’m always thinking about balancing quick win projects with the big exciting pieces that have a more daunting process. The swatches were really helpful in thinking about what kind of coat I want to make!
Hi, really enjoyed the video. I adore your work I feel like your meeeee . I too am trying to get a coat done before the weather takes its toll. Mean while looking forward to watching more of your work while sewing in comfortable surroundings ☺☺☺👍👍👍🙏
I like your plans! I too, enjoy figuring out what I need or want, research patterns and fabrics and then make a schedule for sewing through things! This week I sewed one shirt, which had 12 pieces, and I don’t like it😅! Oh well!
Looking forward to your next video. Thank You so much for sharing your skill in drafting. I’m sort of drafting a pair of trousers for myself from the book Patternmaking for fashion design by Helen Joseph-Armstrong … taking me a long time, but throughly enjoying it mistakes and all. The only thing I need to work out is the extra fabric on lower bum and how to make it vanish. Wish me luck. There are so many skilled people on RUclips like yourself that we can learn from. Again thank You so much 🐶
I live in West Tennessee so we don’t wear anything wool. It’s too warm even in December to February when it’s the coldest. We are known to have all four seasons in a 24 hour period. We even have tornados in December. I love the look but for the price it doesn’t make sense to invest. I still know I can learn from this video and when I get to that level I can use a different fabric.
So, I bought the Byrdie pattern, thought very much of myself because we have a plotter printer at work and I didn’t have to print so many pages at home, printed them so I could sew it up this weekend, and… figured out I printed two of the same page, lol. Oh, well. I’ll try again next weekend! I, too, have many ideas in process. I like seeing your thought processes.
New sewer here. Find vision , planning, shopping, preparing longer than sewing and kinda more fun than actual sewing. Again newbie sewer. Use to do stain glass. Many ways same process but instead of sewing machine use sadder iron.
They elevate my ruler off the table so that I don't drag pen/marker lines across my paper when drafting...learned that in architecture school! :) Thanks so much for watching!
I love the way you teach. I have a problem. I am getting back into sewing and I have a double breasted jacket pattern but it doesn't include lining layout or pieces. Can I just use the pattern to cut out lining? It wold be great if you could make a tutorial on this as It might be useful for many.
Thank you! And yes! I will actually go over that when I construct the trench...the lining is basically the same as the shell, except some of the pieces will be broken up for the facings. I will show that process in the coming weeks so I hope it will be helpful.
I am really leaning toward that green and it seems to be a viewer favorite! The inspiration images I pinned for it are still my faves...so I might have to just go for it!
I would like to make a winter coat this fall, as I own several coat patterns. Are you planning on making a coat sewalong for the coat that you're making?
I'll be sharing the process here for sure! Will mostly be focusing on technique and not so much a specific pattern, but hopefully it will be helpful for other coat projects :)
Thanks! My favorite thrifting spots in Lansing are the St. Vincent De Paul and the Volunteers of America stores. I almost always find stuff at both of those and they are so well organized (today I was at St. Vincent and found a bunch of vintage patterns for .25 cents each!). And the pennies elevate my ruler so it doesn't drag through my pen or marker lines :)
Hi! Love the video and you sharing your thought processes. Curious as to what you are using to draft your pattern pieces? Some of the brown paper I have found is really heavy and I have tried the exam room tissue also. That’s good but does not leaks lay flat well. Thanks!
The sample swatches are $1-$3 (not the fabric yardage). If samples are available for the fabric, there will be a button to click that says "order swatch" :)
Haha, would be a lot cooler if it was karate! I had my wisdom teeth removed and that's where they put the IV in...I have shy veins and I always get a little bruised for that kind of thing!
Yes, I like you slowing down and showing your process. There are tons of fast, perfectly edited videos. They give the impression that you just snap your fingers and in 30 minutes see up a perfect garmet. Those of us who have sewn for years know that is not reality. Look forward to watching the upcoming videos.
Ok I am so glad to know that, thank you! I enjoyed the process so much more this week, was so much more manageable for me.
I love sewing creators who slow down and really show more of the in-depth process. For me, so much more interesting than a start-to-finish 20 min video! Loved this video so much-very relatable to how many of us create. 💛
So glad to know it! It definitely makes it more enjoyable for me too! Thank you!
These “process” videos are a great reminder to me that what I love about sewing IS the process. Plus, I learn something every time. Keep them up!
Thank you, Barb! Yes, being able to slow down and focus on the process is why I love this hobby!
I love slow sewing. It really helps me enjoy the process of making something I will love.
Me too!! It is so nice.
It's wonderful how you stay true to yourself, that way you know you will wear and get real good use of what you really like.
I try so hard to do that...it's taken me years to figure out what I like! haha :) Thank you!
haha, I have definitely worn a thrifted coat, before washing 😂 I enjoy the planning part of sewing, but I still find myself thinking "now what?!" or "where do I begin?" sometimes, so I really appreciate you sharing the prep process of your projects. Also, thank you for talking about sewing for your style vs. just sewing what's trending. I'm excited to see how your projects turn out!
Ok I feel better about not cleaning the coat haha. :) So glad this was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your planning, prep and thought processes. It’s all learning opportunities for those of us starting out or just getting back into sewing again after an absence. Plus, it’s Saturday morning here in Australia and the perfect video with a cup of tea❤️.
So happy to share and glad you enjoyed it! And I love Saturday mornings with my coffee and RUclips shows 💕 glad I can be part of yours!
The pattern drafting is above my skill level. Impressive to watch.
You have some great projects to work on! It was cool to see the swatches, I've never ordered any but I can see how valuable they are when making an important fabric decision!

That was very enjoyable! I would've loved to see how you traced off the sleeve patterns. Can't wait to see the finished garment!
Thank you, Kay! And I think I will show how I did the sleeve in the next video...I got a little lazy on the filming for that part haha :)
Watching you fabricate a pattern from your blazer was extremely interesting. I enjoyed watching your process. I like the way it demystify’s the construction of the garment. I certainly look forward to seeing the rest of your progress. The wool samples looked gorgeous.
Yes! Demystifying is a great way to put it and I love copying my RTW garments for that very reason. So glad you enjoyed that. Thank you!

I really like your down to earth content. It’s not about how much or how fast you go but enjoying the process and staying true to yourself
Thank you Trisha!
THANK YOU for showing how to change a yoke to a dart. Pivoting out darts are like those old geometry problems where if someone shows me the answer it’s obvious, but I can get very stuck working it out for myself.
You are so welcome! Glad that was helpful!
Really interesting to see your thought process about the fabric + projects.Found this a very relaxing video 🙂
So glad it was relaxing and that you enjoyed it! Thank you!

I have a couple of other projects in the kit I definitely want to try and will share them here when I do! It is such a fun system!
It’s very helpful to hear you talk through the planning process. Thank you for sharing!
This is great! I appreciate getting to see your planning process and how your projects and plans evolve in these early stages - thanks for sharing!
That hunter green looks amazing with your coloring. Thanks for thinking out loud for us. It’s so helpful!😊
Thank you! I really like the hunter green a lot!

You have whetted my appetite- I love to see you creating patterns and I can believe that it was therapeutic. I can’t wait to see your progress.
So glad to know it!! Thank you!! :)
You are absolutely refreshing and inspirational. Thank you.
Thank you, that is such a nice thing to say!!!
It takes a lot of planning and organizing to do any project. I’m planning two projects for my new granddaughter due in December. I’m planning a simple blanket and a keepsake box that I will burn in her name and decoupage.
That sounds so nice! Congratulations on the new addition to your family! :)
I enjoyed this video! I’m always thinking about balancing quick win projects with the big exciting pieces that have a more daunting process. The swatches were really helpful in thinking about what kind of coat I want to make!
Yay! Thanks, Danielle! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Now I have to pick a fabric--not gonna be easy because they gave me so many ideas! haha
Thank you for the new content Casey. Really looking forward to seeing these projects when completed. I think green will go with more colours 🙂
Thank you, Lisa! I am really leaning toward the green I think :)
Loved this video. Great to see how you draft your patterns.
Thank you!
I like seeing your reasoning on your projects, helps my process.
I'm so glad!
Hi, really enjoyed the video. I adore your work I feel like your meeeee . I too am trying to get a coat done before the weather takes its toll. Mean while looking forward to watching more of your work while sewing in comfortable surroundings ☺☺☺👍👍👍🙏
The d😂ark green/black herringbone pant would be beautiful. The gray is too medium a color for a winter. The light gray jacket you made is gorgeous!
Oh man, I keep thinking about that dark green herringbone...it really is so nice!
I like your plans! I too, enjoy figuring out what I need or want, research patterns and fabrics and then make a schedule for sewing through things! This week I sewed one shirt, which had 12 pieces, and I don’t like it😅! Oh well!
The planning is sometimes the best part! Argh sorry you don't like the shirt--and 12 pieces! Hope the next project is better!
Again thank You so much 🐶
Thanks so much for watching, so glad you are enjoying it! Best of luck on your pants drafting! It is challenging but so rewarding!
I grew up in Mississippi, so I totally understand that! :)
Thank you for buying the pattern! I hope you enjoy it! :)
New sewer here. Find vision , planning, shopping, preparing longer than sewing and kinda more fun than actual sewing. Again newbie sewer. Use to do stain glass. Many ways same process but instead of sewing machine use sadder iron.
Haha honestly, I feel that way a lot too! The preparation and being able to wear something I made are the motivating factors for sure!
why do you have pennies taped to your ruler? and you are my new sewing inspiration!
Great inspirational video. Watching it Saturday in UK …
Thanks so much, Sue! :)
Your sofa recover looks to be holding up well :)
It is!! I have a few things I'd probably update when I have the chance, but overall it has held up so well! :)
I recently subscribed, I really enjoy your channel 😊 Keep them coming!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'm so glad, thank you!!
Enjoyed the process 😊
So glad! THank you!
BTW, I really like the dark green wool, although just got back from Paris and there's a lot of both grey and dark green out there on the streets
I am really leaning toward that green and it seems to be a viewer favorite! The inspiration images I pinned for it are still my faves...so I might have to just go for it!
All of Mood's wool suiting/coating is on sale this weekend via online only--20%off!
I saw that today, yay!!! It's a sign i need to go for it :)
Great video! Thank you for sharing your process and for the reminder to allow down.
Thank you! :)
Great video
Thank you!
@@PatternScout thx so much 🤗
Enjoyed this. Where do you thrift? And I am wondering about the pennies on your ruler.
Great idea using the pennies. Try the Salvation Army in Brighton. It has lots of clothes. The place is huge.
Why do you wash your material before you cut it? Is to to avoid shrinkage?
Thanks! 😊
Absolutely!
Yes, I always wash or pre-treat my fabrics in the same method I plan to use to clean the final garment to avoid shrinkage :)
@@PatternScout thanks for taking the time to answer my question. 😀
Hi! Love the video and you sharing your thought processes. Curious as to what you are using to draft your pattern pieces? Some of the brown paper I have found is really heavy and I have tried the exam room tissue also. That’s good but does not leaks lay flat well. Thanks!
Thank you, Shawnie! I have just been using brown kraft paper. There is probably a better paper out there, but this has been working ok for now.
Mood Fabric for $1-$3? I didn't find anything. They have very expensive options ($30+) as well. Do you have a secret doorway on the site? 😂
The sample swatches are $1-$3 (not the fabric yardage). If samples are available for the fabric, there will be a button to click that says "order swatch" :)
What's up with the bruise on your wrist??? You ok? Or was it from blocking a kick from karate practice.
Haha, would be a lot cooler if it was karate! I had my wisdom teeth removed and that's where they put the IV in...I have shy veins and I always get a little bruised for that kind of thing!
♥️
I'm so glad, thank you for watching! :)
Why is there a penny on your drafting curve ruler? 😂
Process videos are fine. I do not need to always see finished projects.
