  • Mission Name: PREFIRE & Ice
Launch Date: 05 June, 2024 NZT
Launch Site: Launch Complex 1, Mahia, New Zealand
    Customers: NASA
    Payloads (Satellites) Launched: PREFIRE
NASA’s PREFIRE mission, short for Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment, is tasked with measuring heat loss from both the Arctic and Antarctica, in an aim to help researchers better understand Earth’s energy budget.
The Arctic and Antarctic help to regulate Earth’s climate by radiating a lot of the heat initially absorbed at the tropics back into space. But for regions like the Arctic, about 60% of that heat escapes to space in the form of farinfrared wavelengths that haven’t been systematically measured.
Changes at Earth’s poles can influence global weather patterns and affect sea level rise. The climate data collected by PREFIRE will help to provide a more accurate read of the future of some of Earth’s coldest, most remote regions - and in turn, the future of our planet

Like many of you. I came for the launch, but I am really impressed with the awesome prelaunch presentation about PRE-FIRE. What a noble, important, and URGENT mission! And so happy to see NASA place its confidence in Rocketlab!

Yes indeed, a flawless 49th launch of ELECTRON. As a RKLB shareholder, a relief, as Space LAUNCH enthusiast, very exciting. I noted on the screen, 320 kg lift to LEO, up from 300 kg. And I appreciated the effort to convey to shareholders all is well with ARCHIMEDES at Stennis. These clips I had not seen before, the engine looking beautiful, and impressively complicated - as one would expect with a REUSABLE engine, rather than a simpler, DISPOSABLE engine. Yes, there were many techs about, looking busy. The presenter was saying, hot fire in the coming weeks, making me guess July. After that I would expect months of engine iterations to hit the right numbers for required efficiencies. Fingers crossed.

@@xlynx9 But, the elephant in the room? Well, instead of fixating on Space Services since 2021, and instead on NEUTRON, with Sir Peter's old, LAUNCH baby LAUNCH passion! NEUTRON could already be flying today, raking in $60 million per launch, instead of pennies on the dollar from Space Services, in comparison. I'd be rich. So now I hold onto my RKLB shares, fingers crossed.

@@Vacra_Graha The company needs to both diversify AND differentiate. Going headlong into SpaceX on launch services only is a fool's errand. It's also going to be, by far, the lowest margin of all space system revenue/product streams going forward. Further to the cost/profitability, launch requires massive infrastructure and presents virtually all of the risk. The direct competition blows you out of the atmosphere in terms of capacity, performance, and pedigree. Neutron will be available WHEN THE PAYLOADS ARE AVAILABLE. SpaceX is primarily launching their own satellites now. Yes, they do good business now, but adding a competitor will just slash prices. SpaceX can afford to trim their launches likely into the red if needed for a period of time to stave off any real competition to F9. Competitive constellations are just not ready for launch, but they will be soon. Just in time for Neutron. If you're so sad about the share performance I'll take them off your hands ;).

Very well done with another launch, racking them up.
    Electric Weather Mechanics-
The results from the satellites will eventually confound those who still think that it's the differences in temperature that is the cause of changes in weather and climate (albeit the data will no doubt try to be be fudged to fit the model). Rather than being a by product of the changing electrically charged input into the earth, with the earth being the load on the sun/earth electrical circuit.

Wackjobs like this are so sad. They learn a few science words, I think it usually starts when they have a bad experience with like a science teacher in highschool. Then later in life they have a complete mental breakdown about a difficult political or scientific topic. Remember, these armchair experts really think they are experts, while everyone else is a secret fraud.
