- Between the 1920s and 1930s, many of the steamboats of Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho were burned. To understand why anyone would burn these steamboats, we have to go back to the beginning...

Thank you. I had never heard this piece of history before.
As a local of the area, and a history nerd, its awesome to see some coverage on these vessels! Its a shame they all met such a sad fate. Its also the shame the vessels of the rest of North Idaho's lakes have practically become lost history. I love your work here!
Thank you!
Alex, great storytelling and narration. Wasn't this a "Members Only" video a while back.
Thanks to Alex the Historian for his time, hard work and posting.....
Yes, it was publicly posted before, but I recently had a copyright issue with it, so I corrected the issue and re-uploaded with a new image thumbnail to try to entice more viewers.
Awesome video, Alex! I was hoping you could find more information about steam boats ❤
It's such a small world. I've been following your videos for so long on the Queen Mary, being a SoCal resident, and an aficionado of Ocean Liners . As soon as you did a video about my home town of Coeur D' Alene, I almost had to do a double take. I always heard about the steamboats there, but never has the history been explained to me. Thank you!
Thanks! I'm really happy you had a connection with this video!
Interesting - nowadays would be a great preserved tourist attraction.
Alex this is just incredible. this is breathtaking the amount of quality in this video how in the hell do you have below 100k subscribers?!
Thank you!
Excellent video 💯💯💯
Thank you!
Nice vid! Excellent narration
I havent heard of steamboats in a while
Her boilers, paddle wheel frame, and tons of other parts should still be at the bottom of the lake, more then likely unrecognizable but I’m sure there’s people out there that will be able to identify it and place them as her parts
Great Video! Thanks!
Interesting. The ending was kind of heavy. Burned up a piece of their history.
It's very unfortunate that they were all destroyed. Preserving such things for the future is a fairly new idea in western cultures.
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice.
cool
Interesting Alex you would think the timber could of been used.
They were surrounded by logging operations, used lumber just didn't have any appeal to them.
Interesting! Here is an odd question: Are the artworks on the Queen Mary copyrighted by the artists that made them even 80+ years later.?
The art works were commissioned by Cunard for their ship, meaning that Cunard owned the rights to the artwork. When QM was sold to Long Beach, she was sold "as is", everything onboard became Long Beach property including the art works, which means if you tried to print posters of QM artwork and sell it for yourself, Long Beach could take you to court. Long Beach also owns the "likeness" of RMS Queen Mary, which means you can't film a TV show or movie on the ship without their consent.
The reason I am asking is because there might be artworks that are missing pieces, so they are not complete. But could you look up the completed artworks and replace the missing pieces with replica pieces?. So the artworks could be complete again?.
I'm not sure what that question has to do with the previous question, because no matter who owns the copyright to the artwork, if a work needs restoration, it could be done regardless.
But to answer your question, if the restorer knows what the missing piece of the artwork looks like, they can replicate the broken piece, but if they don't know what it looked like, they have to guess.
Mph for riverboat speed?🧐
It's definitely odd, but that is the speed measurement listed in my sources, so I am only repeating back what is documented.
@@AlextheHistorian you the man! Thanks Alex for the upload!:)
They should’ve kept them and put them on NRHP list! Good riddance! 😮
