  • Earth Day has become one of the most significant occasions that has increased in size, ever since it was first celebrated in 1970 in the United States. On April 22, 2024, we will mark the 54th Earth Day, which will take place at a time when our planet is breaking heat records on an annual basis and pollution levels have reached unprecedented levels that have never been seen before. In order to commemorate Earth Day, millions of people all around the world organize Earth Day movements and make commitments to work toward a more sustainable environment for the planet. Gaylord Nelson, a senator from the United States and an environmentalist, and Denis Hayes, a doctoral student at Harvard University, were the persons responsible for the initial organization of the event.
This year, the event is being celebrated with the theme "Planet vs. Plastics", to raise awareness of the harms of plastic pollution for human and planetary health. In today's world, plastic is found everywhere on earth. For the sake of their own convenience, people are using it nonstop. But nobody seems to care about the damage it's doing to Earth. In order to put an end to plastic pollution, we must first become conscious of the results. The use of plastic should be discouraged from an early age in children. Also, grownups need to double-check each other on this. Also, the government needs to act quickly to prevent plastic pollution before it's too late. Plastic is now among the most used materials. It has recently gone mainstream, appearing in everything from shops to average homes. The problem is that plastic consumption is increasing rather than decreasing. First and foremost, plastic is quite inexpensive. Compared to alternatives such as paper and fabric, its cost is lower. Because of this, it is widespread.
