Favourite shuffle? I like those slow blues/rock shuffles, such as in Led Zeppelin’s “You Shook Me”. That slow groove, and the way they play and sing it, just kills me!

This is awesome, I’m glad you said this. I’ve always wanted to ask someone without a “Musicians ear” what something like this sounds like. You’re the first person I think I’ve seen type it out eloquently. So thank you 🖤
@@andrewrogers1838 Yesterday, listening to a reactor at VoicePlay, they mapped out how each step of the arrangement didn't do what our ears expected. Something lovely and gorgeous, but not expected. Sometimes as simple as an unexpected pause. I'd figured out that they never do a chorus or verse the same way twice, and that it creates a hunger to hear the whole thing again because that one passage was so good, and we only got it once. But I didn't realize how they use anticipation all of the way through. It was an incredible moment of things falling into place. The other two "big" a cappella groups don't hold my attention, I'm bored. This is how VoicePlay keeps me riveted to my headphones. I think that it is probably true of Dirty Loops, Snarky Puppy & Dimash too. When I know that riff or note or harmony isn't coming around again I'm compelled to stay focused. This was all news to me. It's been driving me crazy trying to figure out WHY I'm so gripped by some musicians, and enjoy but am indifferent to others. I hear the beauty, but until someone talks to me about it I don't understand why that moment was so good. But I think this is also why "non-musicians" don't like some artists. I had to google it when I first saw this video because I had no idea what it was either. Never knew they made double bell horns of any sort until then.
The rhythmic and key changes they made to this classic while maintaining the original sound is pure genius... not to mention their incredible fills, solos and breakdowns.
Aaron with his fills!😳 Henrik with the groove Jonah and his milky smooth vocal Corey and the steady chunking Hornheads with their exceptional tightness.
This was my favorite kind of reaction. Informed, thoughtful, emotionally engaged, just a treat. Love the run-backs-I'm here for a "reaction" and these run-backs let me see and hear what is hitting you and that is kind of the point. Well done and you've earned my sub. Looking forward to more of your reactions.
The three of them are long time friends and attend Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. It is the Juilliard of the USA. Outstanding musicianship and an obsession with perfection. Then you couple them with Quincy Jones who put Michael on the map with the album "Off the Wall." I said it before, the best thing that happened was that David Foster sold their contract to Quincy Jones. He knows what he has and he does not have to perform with them. He can set them free. You are gonna hear some amazing things from these guys. They are a real blessing to us.
Brilliant reaction. Thanks! I really like that you're stopping and going into details like that, because no matter how many times I listen to this song, there always seem to be some new little detail that I've missed. That horn section is just so ridiculously tight and Michael B. Nelson with a double-bell euphonium is just too cool for words. As far as I can figure it out, that interlude is some kind of 3/2 on top of the 12/8. There's definitely some kind of 3 to 4 thing going on, but if you want to know exactly what bass and drums are doing, I think you will have to get the bass and drum books that Henrik and Aron released (I think the link for that is in the description of the original video) for the Turbo album. :) There are three more songs, from that album, with videos (Follow the Light on DL's channel, and Turbo and Ring of Saturn on Cory Wong's channel), but I'd recommend at least listening to the other tracks as well. They did the whole album collab over skype, and at the time of the album release (and as far as I know still to this day) they've never even met in person. Cory and Aron geeked out over filming equipment and setup, to make sure that they had films that Aron could put together to make it seem like they were in the same room. Cory talks a bit about it on his podcast (WongNotes) in the episode where he has Henrik as his guest. Henrik also said, in a Swedish podcast, that they had Aron's girlfriend posing as Cory, so they'd know where to look when filming. :D
Yeah Lotta, for me, listening to this whole podcast on Spotify was a real eye opener. Henrik and Cory chatting so casually about that whole writing, arranging, recording and filming process for this album, the whole collaborative process of it, and all of it over the phone and internet - sheesh, it’s just ridiculous.
Hey DrumRollTony. Big fan of your reaction videos. I’m a fairly good musician but when I first heard this band I almost retired lol. To get 3 guys of this standard in one band is off the scale. Never seen Dirty Loops live but it’s a bucket list. I have seen Snarky Puppy, probably the only other band I can listen too after a Dirty Loops ‘session’. Have you heard Snarky Puppy? Keep the vids going, great job 😊
@@antrivers46 Hey Anthony, saw DL live for the first but hopefully not last time on Tuesday this week. Got to shake Aron's and Henrik's hands and thank them for being. And got a signed DL-shirt! And the show? My goodness, they started with Follow the light and that alone was worth the entrance. Golly. Hope you get to see them soon!
I'm just here for the double-bell euphonium!! LOL I can imagine the impish grins on the DL guys' faces when one of them pipes up with "let's take one of the most iconic pop songs ever.... & swing it in 12(mostly!), with a huge synphonic movie soundtrack interlude towards the end" Cue much giggling & nodding. *So* much talent to be able to pull off something this intricate & music-for-musicians-ish.... & yet still have it be satisfying to a wide audience. How killer are Cory & his horn section tho?! Anyhoo, I'll let other folks pile on more DL requests, & instead I'll ask you take a look at Scary Pockets doing their funkify thing to a Daft Punk cover, in this case alongside one of Europe's finest big bands, & the always excellent Steve Swatkins doing his thing thru a talkbox. This too is #Transcendent in its own way imho. ;) Link in reply. You're welcome btw! ;p

You’re so good man seemingly not ever running out of analytical superlatives. I typically do halfway through any of Dirty Loops’ tunes. They are totally unique. And not just unique for its own sake which can often get boring; their songs are incredibly approachable and melodic (catchy) for the masses. I’m actually a bit disappointed with Quincy’s team because these guys need more global exposure.
The double bell euphonium is a duplex instrument based on the euphonium. The larger bell produces the mellow tone of a standard euphonium; the second smaller bell has a brighter tone, similar to a baritone horn or valve trombone. The instrument is sometimes dismissed as a novelty, but has had a small number of enthusiastic adherents, although few professional musicians use it as their sole or primary instrument. The smaller bell can give more appropriate tone in the higher range of the instrument. The two bells can also be used for special effects, such as echoes, and using the distinctly different tone of the two bells for a single musician to give the effect of call and response
Thanks Randal, found this very interesting. It might be one of these instruments which, like so many others, were ingenious musical developments at the time but turned out to be too cumbersome to play in the longer run, and gradually ‘died out’. Still, it’s use here on this track is just soo good :)
I played one once, pitch and range are identical for each bell, but the larger bell is a conical bore and the smaller bell is cylindrical until the bell flare (like a trombone bell). The shape of the bore creates the difference in timber between the bells. It is a piston valve to select which bell is on use, so it is one or the other, not both at the same time. I was playing marches when I played my friends double bell euphonium so when I got to any Om path part I played the Ooms on the large bell and the Pas on the little bell of course.
If you're interested in that beautiful horn section ("The Hornheads", former horn section for prince), I'd recommend checking out more of Cory Wong's stuff. for some horn-heavy older stuff I'd recommend: "Cory Wong // Work It Out (feat. Antwaun Stanley)" and "Cory Wong // "Click Bait" (feat. The Hornheads) " and for some newer stuff (no less horn-heavy): "Cory Wong // "Direct Flyte" (feat. Victor Wooten) " and "Cory Wong // "Concrete" (feat. Mark Lettieri) " Cory Wong is probably my most listened-to artist in the past 2 years. He's also part of the INCREDIBLE minimalist-funk band Vulfpeck. He (and Vulfpeck) have also collaborated with some absolute legends such as David T. Walker, Bernard Purdie, James Gadson, Nate Smith, Victor Wooten, etc.
Yeah, apart from the music I love to see and hear Cory in podcasts, YT lessons and so on, his energy and wonderful personality puts me in a good mood every time.
Hi Tony, that was one dope reaction, - and shout out to Big Pookey! ☺️👍 As others were saying, Cory Wong’s interview of Henrik on his podcast Wong Notes sheds a lot of light onto the collaboration and the making of this album, and this track in particular. Some musical geniuses at work, for sure ;) The writing and arrangement of it was done by Dirty Loops, Cory Wong and Michael Nelson (leader, composer, arranger and the trombonist of the Hornheads). It’s just so good! I’m glad you pointed out the background vocals, all by Jonah. They’re stunning, as is everything else… (Incidentally, you’ve both times missed him putting on his ‘Stevie’ sunnies during that bridge section 😉 before channeling some more of Stevie’s vocals -hilarious!) What does so much for me on this track is the amount of ‘little things’ going on underneath in the bass, guitar and horn riffs, whilst most of the time Aron is laying down this relentless 4/4 beat… it’s super busy, often syncopated -, and you can still groove on with it. And at 6:29! 🤣😂🤣 I love how Dirty Loops first blow your mind, then blow it some more…. then just drop you back down into the funkiest groove as if nothing had happened ;) To listen to this with you, for me is just super fun and super instructional, and adds so much to my understanding of this music. Again, thanks so much, Tony 🙏 Their tracks “Follow the Light”, “Turbo” and “Ring of Saturn” from the same album, all with visuals, are also highly worth checking out and reacting to (as are all the others, albeit without videos). So much more to look forward to!
My brother introduced me to fusion in late 80' ( he's a drummer) so after learning about guys like Coliutta, chambers, Gadd, weckl, etc. and my favorite guitarist of the genre, Allan Holdsworth, I can really appreciate what's going on here! They're making very complex music very palatable for the masses...BEAUTIFUL STUFF! Also, don't ever apologize for rewinding, your reactions are perfect!
I'm a decent bass player, but these guys, wtf. I've loved their shit for a long time now, and many other killer composers and players. For me, the the #1 aspect of this was the arrangement. Of course, you have to have players that can play that arrangement, and they do, in spades. I don't know who arranged this but I suspect that the core members were heavily involved in it. That horn section was on point, they were killing. I saw Maynard Ferguson big band years ago in concert in Jacksonville Florida, they were killing it too. This was just like that. A superb horn section and excelled in ensemble playing. I've heard other great horn sections as well, probably my favorite from Tower of Power. I don't know to fawn over the bass drums and vocals, because we already know they stick the landing, every freaking time. Great track. Love your reaction to it. It was kind of like my own when I first heard it. WTF.
In the description of the video it says "Arranged by Dirty Loops, Cory Wong & Michael Nelson" and in the credits at the end of the video it says "Horn arrangements by Jonah Nilsson, Aron Mellergård, Henrik Linder, Michael Nelson, Cory Wong", so yeah, they seem to have done all the arranging themselves.
Turbo and Follow The Light from the Dirty Loops/Cory Wong-collab are also extremely amazing, and if you haven’t heard those, I highly recommend those two
Fun fact: cory wong and his crew were filmed and recorded on the other side of the country to dirty loops and then got mixed together to have this final masterpiece
The other side of the OCEAN! Cory in Minneapolis, MN……Loops, Stockholm Sweden! Most of the Dirty Loops, videos are edited by Aron (Drums)! This one was. Amazing!
Yeah, a couple of folks have already gotten to the first part of that unusual horn -- the double-bell euphonium. My understanding (and I don't play brass) is that the horn transitions from one bell to the other depending upon the pitch -- lower notes from the big bell, higher notes from the smaller bell. I think the harmony you heard was from one of the other horns.
Almost. The smaller bell is indeed used to get a better tone in the higher register, but you switch between them with a valve, so the player have full control over which bell to use where. :)
Uhh, nice! My favorite cover of all time! Ok, maybe up there with Sound of Silence from Disturbed. To your question: there can be only one - Rosanna from ToTo.
That was so much fun! Really hope you do more DL stuff soon or down the road. 😃👍🏻🙏🏻 Follow the light has the same crew but is an original, could be à logic next thing to react to.
Great reaction! This is pure genius and a double nod to MJ. It's Thriller but done in a 12/8 shuffle like The Way You Make Me Feel. These guys are just on another level...
This is absolutely amazing! EVERYTHING is so tight and synched up. I know there is post production, but the engineers have to have excellence to START with for it to come out like this. Back in the day (70s) I was a semi-pro trumpet player. At my very BEST, I wouldn't belong in the same room with these guys! Spectacular re-imagination of a classic! MJ meets EWF meets Steely Dan meets Jacko, meets who knows else!! WOW!! Great reaction!
Aarons fills on this thing are unreal! Great reaction vids, my man...as another drummer myself, I completely get every reaction you make.....check out the balance of the Cory Wong/DL collaboration...every track is hot fire!
Hey dude, nice video! in the middle instrumental section, there is a sense of metric modulation marking 4 on the ride cymbal while keeping a 12/8 half time feel shuffle which makes it tasty and very interesting , keep it up brpther.
when I'm enjoying/experiencing re-arrangements like this ... I honestly LOVE watching people react to a familiar song that is is "reinvented" or expanded. especially Live. as a drummer and also writer, its fascinating to see "common folk" and "civilians" in complete confusion. They know its changed up, but have no clue why they love it more. THAT friends is when musicians have done their job. Giving honor, credit, and dignity to the original, and expanding it. Too often people say the reinterpretation was a "remake" NO! Artists, TRUE musicians never seek to "improve" a performance. They simply "reimagine" and hope to touch the essence of the original. ~R.
Tnx for a very good reaction. You really perceive all the magic that Mr Tasty (Aaron) delivers from the drums. Note that during the stick (7.35) aron plays straight on the riding cymbal even though everything else is twisted .. brilliant. hope you check out "coffeybreak is over" where DL really twists and turns the beats
@@DrumRollTonyReacts dopest track! 👍 Shorter and very different, but man, those three minds at work there in their usual fun and fire way, takin the mickey out of us… 🤣
That there is a double belled euphonium. One side sounds more warm, the other side sounds more bright and brassy. They were used in the early 20th century but kind of fell out of style just before mid century. Surprise the hell out of me to see it in this video, but the guy sounds damn good on it.
Sooo...12/8 in the break, but half-time. If you count 1-and-a two-and-a '3' is the snare hit and the downbeat of that feel will catch up with you when the trumpets come back in the last 8 bars. Bass is resting the downbeat and playing the and-a. The symmetry and precision of Aron's right-hand doubles actually make me think of how a DCI drumline vet would play them. Great reaction. Thanks, Tony.
So many little things to discover. Eg, a sample drops on the snare throughout the song. Every 8th snare in chorus, and every 2 and then every 4 elseware. This sort of stuff just keeps their tracks so re-listenable.
Great reaction love the comments, knowledge, energy and your production values are top-shelf. Two things the horn you're referring to is a Double bell euphonium and these guys were so tight and at the time of this recording the musicians on Corey's side had never met Dirty Loops in person. This was recorded independently in Minneapolis-Corey and crew and Stockholm, Sweden-Dirty Loops. How is that for just sick skills?
Fun fact, They weren't in the same room while this was filmed or even produced, same goes for their whole album. Corey and the horns were in the US while Dirty Loops were in Sweden, They just found the same kind of background and filmed separately.
I think they filmed it all against a green screen and just agreed on lighting and positions, and added the background later. I've read somewhere that Cory's girlfriend was standing far to the right all the time while filming in the US so that he would keep himself sort of looking at the space where the Dirty Loops part would later be. Also have a look at who was doing the video editing in the credits. He's multi-talented.
@@RobertClaeson I don't think so. I heard an interview w/Cory where he said they had to look high and low to find the same lights that Dirty Loops have used in a number of their videos, so that they could set them up in the background for his and the horns' half of the screen.
@@RobertClaeson Mike Kobb is right, no green screen, but setups as similar as possible on both sides, and then Aron stitched the films together. Cory talks about it a bit in his podcast (WongNotes) in the episode where he has Henrik as his guest. I know, from a podcast with Henrik, that Aron's girlfriend was posing as Cory for DL's filming, but I've never heard Cory say anything about having his wife do the same for them. Where did you find that gem of information? I'd love to hear/read the whole of that interview or statement. (Yes, I am a geek. I can't help it; they're just too good, hahaha.)
Hey Tony, enjoyed your "reaction" and commentary on this. Often not the case with these types of videos. Nice to share this with an intelligent musical mind that gets just how extraordinary this s**t is. This is a masterpiece of a cover and the arranger of it is legendary, whoever that is. Someone like Jacob Collier comes to mind. Anyway, I just revisit this and other posts of Dirty Loops to get the max hit of technical execution and precision, incredible arrangements and absolutely blow mind production. Doesn't get any better than this...how could it!
The only thing that compares to the huge ensemble here would be Snarky Puppy... Would love to see Cory et al and also Dirty Loops both get a turn sitting in with Snarky.
There is something very weird going on with this shuffle, in how Jonah sub-divides his vocals in the choruses. He seems to divide stuff that realistically cannot be divided. Or something. I usually figure stuff out sooner rather than later, but this still puzzles me to no end. One day… :D
The most amazing thing about all these videos is that it looks like they're all in the same studio, well they're NOT. This was all done in two different locations and two different countries! FACT! Mad props to all the production personnel involved! Leo de los Reyes Percussionist/Drummer Fan & Subby of your Channel California, USA
As far as I know the horn arrangement is written by the trombone player. Vocal arrangements is written by the singer. Most of the horns (not Grace Kelly) are Princes old horn section ..
Brain fart, imagine them getting a complete group together of perfectionist, preforming at half time at the Super Bowl. No one would take time to piss.
You gotta hear him live. The video's good, but he is classically trained and don't put him behind a piano and let him sing. They were so good live, I almost crapped my pants. Live they have one additional keyboardist that is badder than all of them. The best concert I have ever seen and I got to meet them in Dallas, TX. I am so glad they got away from David Foster. He had no ide what to do with them. Quincy had them now and he is letting them fly. That's what you get when Quincy gets a hold of them.
Everybody can't jump on Michael Jackson. Quincy knew he had the right group. Jonah Nilson, lead singer and he studied theory at the Swedish Conservatory of Performing Arts so changes are, he is the aranger, with Quicy overseeing the whole shabang now. They are the youngsters gleening from the master so everything is amped. That is Jonah all the way. It's like taking off in a spaceship.
You have to understand the arranger, Jonah Nillson, singer, keyboardist, is in his environment. Plus, now you have Quincy lending all his years of experience to the arrangement.
Great reaction! If you haven't heard it yet you should check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Morgan James doing Aerosmith's Dream On. Totally re-imagined, but still recognizable, and really awesome!
Yo! I work on Gameday as the AV lead for the installations around the stadium. Let’s meet up! Just found ya and would love to find more music people as I’m new to the Seattle area!
Their going to end up at the end of one of the DC comics movies. They write this superhero shit that you marvel at. That is all Jonal Nilson leading the charge. He is one bad brother and I can say, he is the nicest young man. He stopped and had a converstion with my daughter when she was 7 years old. I have a picture of the whole group on my Facebook page when they came to Dallas, Nov. 7 2014. I was there with my daughters and my sister-in-law and my nephew, who plays with The Chics( formerly The Dixiechicks) and they blew us away. 500 people max when they first got started. The Kessler Theatre. That was when David Foster had them.
I strongly suggest you to check Tool band. Great drum feels, very noticeable bass lines, tempo changes, polyrhythmics.. you can find there everything. Start with 'The Pot', 'Schism' or 'Pneuma' (last one is live with camera set on a drummer, Danny Carey )
This is a certain flavor of reaction and a valuable one. You do well in highlighting the true genius of these mad lads. To take on perhaps the most hallowed pop song of all time, make it distinctly yours and create something additive without drastically altering the pop tone… it’s not something very many, if any, musicians can pull off. They did, and honored Stevie Wonder in the process. Also I wonder whether they wanted to nod to ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ when framing the cover in the shuffle feel. Maybe I should check out these podcasts people are mentioning
Excellent reaction to a superb cover. I much prefer your "back-up & repeat" with something to say than listening start to finish with a reactor only adding _"That was great. Tell me what you thought below..."_ You likely know him, but if not, maybe react to Jacob Colliers Grammy winning covers: _Jacob Collier - All Night Long (Official Video)_ his "Magnum Opus" _Jacob Collier - Moon River_ a cappella. Opens with 150 people in his phone book who replied. _Flintstones - Jacob Collier_ a cappella plus a melodica solo (very popular instrument in schools) Grammy nominated but didn't win: Jacob Collier - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) [keep for Christmas?] One of the covers which got him noticed by Quincy Jones: _Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing - Jacob Collier_ he was a teenager then. If you don't know Jacob Collier, he never uses autotune. Everything you hear, he can sing live. He also records, engineers and produces his audio, and usually his videos. Jacob Collier and Jonah have performed together live. Also Jacob Collier performed in studio with Snarky Puppy, and on stage live with Cory Henry. Best Wishes. ☮ RUclips sent me here!
Another commenter is correct, it's a double bell euph. They're cool looking but outside of extremely specific unaccompanied solo pieces it's kinda pointless because the difference in timbre between the bells is so minor it would be drowned out by the ensemble. Seems more like a flex on the players part because that horn is probably 80+ years old and crazy expensive.

Cory talks a bit about it on his podcast (WongNotes) in the episode where he has Henrik as his guest. Henrik also said, in a Swedish podcast, that they had Aron's girlfriend posing as Cory, so they'd know where to look when filming. :D
Wow. Like WOW. The power of Skype and a conversation
This too is #Transcendent in its own way imho. ;)
Link in reply.

So wild! Thx for the info
@@edharris6456 great, thanks for all that detailed info. Sounds like fun :)
The Hornheads)
"
and for some newer stuff (no less horn-heavy): "Cory Wong // "Direct Flyte" (feat. Victor Wooten)
" and "Cory Wong // "Concrete" (feat. Mark Lettieri)
"
Cory Wong is probably my most listened-to artist in the past 2 years. He's also part of the INCREDIBLE minimalist-funk band Vulfpeck.
He (and Vulfpeck) have also collaborated with some absolute legends such as David T. Walker, Bernard Purdie, James Gadson, Nate Smith, Victor Wooten, etc.
Yeah Lukas, Cory is dope (and THE nicest guy), and so are all the people of Hornheads (during Prince times known as Hornheadz :)
Yeah, apart from the music I love to see and hear Cory in podcasts, YT lessons and so on, his energy and wonderful personality puts me in a good mood every time.
Ah, the double bell euphonium! The horns are incredible on this.
Your reactions are so good! Educational and fun.
So enjoyed your reaction. Thanks, Tony!
Hi Tony, that was one dope reaction, - and shout out to Big Pookey! ☺️👍
As others were saying, Cory Wong’s interview of Henrik on his podcast Wong Notes sheds a lot of light onto the collaboration and the making of this album, and this track in particular. Some musical geniuses at work, for sure ;)
The writing and arrangement of it was done by Dirty Loops, Cory Wong and Michael Nelson (leader, composer, arranger and the trombonist of the Hornheads). It’s just so good!
I’m glad you pointed out the background vocals, all by Jonah. They’re stunning, as is everything else…
(Incidentally, you’ve both times missed him putting on his ‘Stevie’ sunnies during that bridge section 😉 before channeling some more of Stevie’s vocals -hilarious!)
What does so much for me on this track is the amount of ‘little things’ going on underneath in the bass, guitar and horn riffs, whilst most of the time Aron is laying down this relentless 4/4 beat… it’s super busy, often syncopated -, and you can still groove on with it.
And at 6:29! 🤣😂🤣 I love how Dirty Loops first blow your mind, then blow it some more…. then just drop you back down into the funkiest groove as if nothing had happened ;)
To listen to this with you, for me is just super fun and super instructional, and adds so much to my understanding of this music.
Again, thanks so much, Tony 🙏
Their tracks “Follow the Light”, “Turbo” and “Ring of Saturn” from the same album, all with visuals, are also highly worth checking out and reacting to (as are all the others, albeit without videos).
So much more to look forward to!
Haha, I noticed the same thing! Tony looked away both times he played the bit with the sunglasses. Something to spot on a future playback. 😄
@@MikeKobb 😎😎😎
-that intense listening, though….so much’s happening musically at that point.
Oh and the graphics at 6:49 -on point 😉
Turbo and Follow The Light from the Dirty Loops/Cory Wong-collab are also extremely amazing, and if you haven’t heard those, I highly recommend those two
That bass is delicious. The brass section is equally good - been playing with Prince and such.
Amazing!
True i saw Cory podcast
Yeah, a couple of folks have already gotten to the first part of that unusual horn -- the double-bell euphonium. My understanding (and I don't play brass) is that the horn transitions from one bell to the other depending upon the pitch -- lower notes from the big bell, higher notes from the smaller bell. I think the harmony you heard was from one of the other horns.
Almost. The smaller bell is indeed used to get a better tone in the higher register, but you switch between them with a valve, so the player have full control over which bell to use where. :)
@@lottawiklund8606 Ah, cool, thanks!
8:45 sounds like a shuffle half timed to make it sound like 6/8.
yes, but in reality its 4/4 on drums hahaha
That's what made them famous. They could take a song and make it Dirty Loops song.
Uhh, nice! My favorite cover of all time! Ok, maybe up there with Sound of Silence from Disturbed.
To your question: there can be only one - Rosanna from ToTo.
Check out Follow the Light which is on the same lp as Thriller. ❤️🇨🇦
Ok thank you!

That was so much fun! Really hope you do more DL stuff soon or down the road. 😃👍🏻🙏🏻 Follow the light has the same crew but is an original, could be à logic next thing to react to.
"SHUFFLE!" Exactly Tony. Much more than triplets. Thanks for your great rhythmic ears!
Great reaction! This is pure genius and a double nod to MJ. It's Thriller but done in a 12/8 shuffle like The Way You Make Me Feel. These guys are just on another level...
Great reaction man!
Maybe Dirty Loops/Cory Wong - TURBO next? 😃
Great reaction!! 🙏🏻
Can not wait! :)
Hey dude, nice video! in the middle instrumental section, there is a sense of metric modulation marking 4 on the ride cymbal while keeping a 12/8 half time feel shuffle which makes it tasty and very interesting , keep it up brpther.
I love that stuff!!!
when I'm enjoying/experiencing re-arrangements like this ...
~R.
I better level it up past common people and civilian status 😆
Tnx for a very good reaction. You really perceive all the magic that Mr Tasty (Aaron) delivers from the drums. Note that during the stick (7.35) aron plays straight on the riding cymbal even though everything else is twisted .. brilliant.
hope you check out "coffeybreak is over" where DL really twists and turns the beats
Thanks for the nice comment. I'm not familiar with coffee break is over so we will have to do that!

Oh....that's a fluglesnork...the man from Nantucket played one and also the Grinch....😜
That there is a double belled euphonium. One side sounds more warm, the other side sounds more bright and brassy. They were used in the early 20th century but kind of fell out of style just before mid century. Surprise the hell out of me to see it in this video, but the guy sounds damn good on it.
James Bond!
great reaction ,from the heart
Love it👍
Sooo...12/8 in the break, but half-time.
The down tempo horn sektion in the middle is fantastic!!! The is doing one thing off while som handclap thing is doing 1,2,3,4z!!!! Love ii!!!!!
So many little things to discover. Eg, a sample drops on the snare throughout the song. Every 8th snare in chorus, and every 2 and then every 4 elseware. This sort of stuff just keeps their tracks so re-listenable.
Love that, like an extra reverb effect… 🔥
That horn is a dual bell bflat Euphonium! It is awesome !!!
10:30 - How long did he hold that note? Lungs of steel!
FYI the trombone player writes the brass charts
I am a retired touring sound engineer after 43 years and 25 million miles. I would come out of retirement to mix these guys.
Yeah mate. You’ve got it bad. It doesn’t seem plausible to be able to produce such magnificence does it ? this fries my brain just as much as yours 😎
One day… :D
hackapump, let me know when you’ve figured it out, I’d be most interested 😉

Cory’s horn section may well be the hottest thing of its kind today. And that’s a double bell euphonium…
Amazing 👏 !
How they recorded this in two different locations (Minnesota/Sweden) I'll never fully comprehend.
That's why they are called "Dirty Loops"!
As far as I know the horn arrangement is written by the trombone player. Vocal arrangements is written by the singer. Most of the horns (not Grace Kelly) are Princes old horn section ..
The background vocals is 99% Jonah Nilsson, you should hear his version of BAD.....
Sweet. I def need to do that
Brain fart, imagine them getting a complete group together of perfectionist, preforming at half time at the Super Bowl.
The horn you are talking about is a double bell baritone.
You cannot take an iconic song with an iconic bass line and covert the whole thing from 4/4 to 12/8 time. No way!
Unless you re Dirty Loops. 👍
Hello Mr. Tony. That is a double bell euphonium. Sure, why not??
Everybody can't jump on Michael Jackson. Quincy knew he had the right group. Jonah Nilson, lead singer and he studied theory at the Swedish Conservatory of Performing Arts so changes are, he is the aranger, with Quicy overseeing the whole shabang now. They are the youngsters gleening from the master so everything is amped. That is Jonah all the way. It's like taking off in a spaceship.
You have to understand the arranger, Jonah Nillson, singer, keyboardist, is in his environment. Plus, now you have Quincy lending all his years of experience to the arrangement.
this horn thing I reckon is their interpretation of the Vincent Price rap.
GOTTA check out Jason Richardson and Luke Holland. Upside Down or Tendinitis. Upside Down has Tim Henson (from Polyphia) as a Feature.

That's cool they were so humble
It is the pocket. Quicy oversaw it but they od all of their own arrangements.
Deion Cole on lead trumpet..
double belled euphonium. or duplex Bb euphonium.

Jacob Collier - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) [keep for Christmas?]
One of the covers which got him noticed by Quincy Jones:
_Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing - Jacob Collier_ he was a teenager then.
