I've never had the joy of seeing Derek live... he's easily one of the most important guitarists to ever grace this planet and too esoteric to be reasonably appreciated by most -- sadly. A colossus and true one-of-a-kind gift to this world who left behind a body of work that will stand the test of time, as long as civilized human beings exist.
Dominic Lash, the English bass player, wrote a dissertation on Bailey's technique, but it's almost impossible to describe his sound; it has to be heard, so it's a shame that the pieces have been removed from this broadcast.
Then you're not truly listening! Learn to listen, then you'll be able to hear and make sense of things. Otherwise, you are wasting your time, and should listen to something less "challenging". Some people will never learn how to so...nor do most want to!!
He changed no doubt. Either substance or thought of as music joke once thought, fried twice..Tattooed brain scribbled silly string tight, eskimo chain wipe
Derek Bailey is the goat 🐐 such an innovator, thanks for this upload

Feralsanders What a great name
Brilliant! never heard him talking about his playing in depth even after 30 years of listening to him
Nice to hear that he kept his Sheffield accent! Hope the great man was a Wednesdayite.
That bit where he talks about playing improvised music and starts pulling in and out from the mic and making stops and breaths is unbelievably cool.
This is amazing. Thank you so much for uploading !~!
Great interview with Derek. Thanks.
It's beyond Thinking .
Wow, this is great. Thanks for this.
He was a real artist
Downs Road in Clapton was a pretty edgy location in the late 80s!
One word: brilliant

Dominic is also a guitarist.
still love it!!
"Bach and the Fine Young Cannibals" :)
1989 would have been around the time of 'She Drives Me Crazy'.
excellent!
18:44 So weird hearing him play a major 7 chord
Also thank you for uploading this!
Really ! For a second there I thought “oh shit ,he’s about to go into Misty ! Hahaha
Bailey has the most british voice I've ever heard
It's a Yorkshire accent, very different from southern England!
@@liamnoble4394 Also, he talks at a nice even pace - I managed to listen at 1.75x !
It’s a Sheffield accent. He was born there and sadly virtually no one knows who he is there. A true artist a true genius
As a closet guitarist, artist, musician ...this guy has resonated with me ....nice one....👍
Thuns up
when we talk we improvise, what is an interview other than an improvisation?
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤❤❤❤❤

Oh no

Wow, it seems alot of people like random notes being played.
A lot of people like listening to Derek Bailey. If you don't get it, that's OK. He wasn't just doing random stuff.
