I knew a little bit, but this vid went well into depth. My main question, when I did the search and found this vid was, does Lightroom or PS do it, or do I need an independent program? And you answered that. Thank you, sir. As usual, your delivery is fun and informative.
Dear RC, You should check what is "focus breathing", you didn't necessarily moved your tripod…Focus breathing of your lens can cause framing variations. Cheers
Great vid RC, as usual, however you might mention that even if you are half serious about focus stacking, there are two programs far superior to PS - Helicon Focus and Zerene Stacker. Secondly, adjusting focus for focus stacking, by definition, introduces distortion. Having a camera on a macro rail and moving the subject or camera rather than changing focus maintains constant magnification. Lastly, there is a defacto standard piece of gear for doing this - the Cognisys StackShot System. Just FYI!
(Not trying to troll) Should have 1) used a remote -reduce risk of camera moving from clicking shutter and shake especially with slow shutter speed 2)manual focus -live view is weak with exception of 70D, but also going from near to far helps to avoid missing point 3)could have been clearer that live view shows shallower depth of field because lens is wide open Liked the software portion though which is why I wanted to watch the video. Hoping it works with elements.
Question PS is crapping out when attempting to focus stack images that are FullFrame RAW. Im doing some product photography - Jewelry. Would you recommend shooting in jpeg instead. yes ill loose some editing wiggle room. But shy of building a super computer I dont know what else to do. i have 8gb RAM and I still get RAM errors when aligning and blending. Thoughts?
Thank you for taking the time to show us the entire process of focus stacking! I am now ready to shoot something! ;)

Wecome back RC.. well missed!!..
The live view is showing the image at f/2.8 which is why the DOF looks so much shallower than the actual photos.
I hope they add this to Lightroom, with all the other new Photo features they added in version 6! fingers crossed
Thanks RC.
Thanks for sharing!!

Tripod probably did not move. It's called focus breathing.

Or just use Kuuvik Capture's focus bracketing.
