I'll watch the black and white for the artistic value. But I'll probably stick to True Hue on a rewatch, just as I'll probably only watch Werewolf by Night In Color from now on.
@DarthTingleBinks Werewolf at least has some merit in watching both, as the color version is made to look more like the 70s Hammer style vs the original's Universal look
@bastien-Well, also, the original does have color in it, mainly from the Bloodstone, before eventually washing the entire thing in color for the last scene. Still, I just prefer to watch things in color. I appreciate the black and white for the artistry, as I said, but not necessarily as a viewing experience. Although I have yet to watch the "Justice is Grey" version of ZSJL, because in that instance it does feel unnecessary.
THIS is the role Nic Cage was born to play! And it’s also great for him, considering the fact that he is a massive comic book nerd himself. He even named one of his sons Kal-El after Superman.
I know man, After realizing he was a clone, Scarlett Spider created this identity by combining Uncle Ben's first name with Aunt May's maiden name, Reilly. So, He adopted this alias to distance himself from Peter Parker while living in exile. I have watched Ultimate Spider-Man iny childhood, where Aunt May gives this name to him So I ain't wrong, It's just a funny coincidence😅@grassyhill5830
Nicolas Cage walks the line between meme and legend, with every appearence you can't do nothing but smile, you can feel how much fun he had while on screen
I am so happy! But also sad because the Voice Actor who voiced both Noir Spider-Man and Nic Cage in my country passed away just a few days ago He was also the Voice of Jango Fett, Boba Fett and the Clone Troopers
I heard that Cage (maybe he's a producer? I admit I don't know) was behind this. It was always intended to be both. Its not normal color. Its hyper-saturated color, like Technicolor, or comic book art when its well printed. Go back and watch the Dick Tracy movie. Like that (except that ONLY had the hyper-saturated color and no B&W version).
I think it's smart to release in both. Not only does it appeal to people who don't like black and white TV and film, it also encourages those who like the show to rewatch it. Seems like a net positive for Sony and Prime.
I think releasing both is a good play, they did the same thing for Werewolf by Night and while I prefer the black and white version, the colour version is great as well, seeing man thing in all his swampy green goodness just feels right, but again the black and whit just fits so well
I was a waiter in Vegas, where he lives, and he would come in once every few weeks when noone else was there and i would take care of him. Super nice, always tipped well. I felt bad because I was taking care of him on Mothers day and he had brought his wife and kid, and the entire time he was nice enough to take pictures. Cool guy. He was surprised that Mandy was my fav movie
Ben Reilly. Ben as in Ben Parker, Reilly as in May Reilly. Also the name of one of Peter's clone brothers, Chasm fka Scarlett Spider. The premise of the character is that his whole universe is in black & white (in Spiderverse, he becomes obsessed with a rubics cube and takes it back with him). So b&w is the only authentic way to watch.
Ben Reilly is a Spider-Man in the comics. They just can't use Peter Parker because of legal rules in place of what they can and cannot do with Peter. A lot of the Noir setting kind of breaks those regulations. Spider-Man Noir I believe is Peter in the comics though.
@warhawk_ytcorrect on everything. Which kinda sucks because I don’t really like when they merge characters lol but I was wanting him to be the spider noir from ITSV lol
3:56 Ben Reilley is Scarlet Spider, a clone of Peter Parker intended to fight him but later on became his ally. Interesting that they chose Ben Reilley when in the Spider-verse movie Spider-Noir introduced himself as Peter Parker.
It could also be a pseudonym this version of Peter is using since Ben Reilly was made up by the clone who became Scarlet Spider because it's a mix of Uncle Ben's first name and Aunt May's maiden name.
It has to do with certain regulations that are in place of what you can and cannot show Peter doing. They are very strict and certain things commonly found in Noir settings breaks those regulations. That is probably the main reason. Things like showing Peter do drugs and alcohol is one of the big ones and in this trailer he is drinking.
I'm fairly certain that Sony doesn't have rights to portray Peter Parker anymore in live action, with Marvel having lending rights to live portrayals of Peter. So either Marvel didn't approve of them using Peter for this, or Sony didn't bother asking Marvel ahead of time because it's Sony.
Definitely looks like it was meant to be watched in black and white, it looks like the cinematography of the 40s and 50s noirs! You guys gotta watch in black and white!!!!
He's not his own version of Uncle Ben. He's Ben Reilly. In the "main" Spider-Man story, Ben Reilly is a clone of Peter Parker. In the "Spider-Verse" movies, there is a "Scarlet Spider" voiced by Andy Samberg. That's the "real" Ben Reilly. He's the ultra dramatic Spider-Man, monologuing in the rain, and posing angstily. Spider-Noir is a 1940s variant of that Ben Reilly, it would seem.
It’s because there’s a deal with Marvel and Sony that Peter Parker isn’t allowed to do drugs or kill (except when he’s in a symbiote suit) in stories. So Ben Riley makes sense.
For the guys since yall are wondering about the lighting process [The series was created for release in both black-and-white and color. To achieve the two versions, on-set footage was captured digitally to then be split and processed separately. The team coined the term "True-Hue" to refer to how they went about creating their Technicolor-like color version, with Cage saying that version was made to look "super saturated" and Uziel noting it was as if the black and white film had been colorized. Cage likened the style of the color version to the painting Nighthawks (1942) by Edward Hopper. Anthony Breznican at Esquire felt each version resulted in different vibes for the series, "with the color version veering more toward the lighthearted comic-strip crime capers of Dick Tracy, while the black and white conjures the sinister moral abyss of the novels of Raymond Chandler”]
*”I beat up some guys in a bar, then I got PLAS-TEEEERED.”* Literally, no one else could deliver such a simple line in such an extremely entertaining way other than Nic Cage!
I'm definitely going black and white. I love Spider-Man Noir a ton from the comics. A problem recently though is a lot of writers other than David Hine (the creator) don't seem to actually get the character. They just write him as the mainline universe Peter Parker but in the 30s. From the trailer, I'm getting the feeling that they don't get him either. I'll still be watching the second it drops because I'm a huge fan and it looks really awesome. Looks like they're switching things up and making it Ben Riley instead of Peter. I'll forgive them for not sticking completely to the source as long as they're able to at least give a really good show. Please!
The “Ben Reilly” name in the comics was used by a clone of Peter Parker who went and has his own life, combining Ben Parker with May Reilly, Aunt May’s maiden name. There was actually a version of clone Ben Reilly in Across the Spiderverse - the guy with the “well defined musculature”.
The black and white version looks so good! You can see they produced it specifically to be shown without colour. The contrast gives so much focus and style to it.
well as someone who has collected every single Spider-noir comic book I can't express how happy I am that it looks so good. I am definitely gonna watch you guys react to it first when it comes out.
I was drawn in by Nicolas Cage to see the trailer but became very interested when I realized that this is the first time we will see Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) in a live production.
So excited for the black & white viewing for Spider Noir. Side note though, can we please have a high & dry for Van Helsing one day 🙏🏻! It would be so much fun
thing is when you think B&W film, your colors that will be turned to B&W need to be special, it's not like you film something without a color thinking palette that, when turned into B&W, will create a certain style in B&W. Lots of contrast matters also that will force you to choose colors when filming that would make no sense in colors but will create a differencial in B&W, hence something watchable.
Ya, Sony Television doesn't really have their own streaming service anymore (Core doesn't count, it's on so few platforms and has no original content) so they produce the stuff and whoever wants to partner with them / the highest bidder gets to air it, that ensures stable profitability as its up to whoever buys the airing rights of the program to figure out how to monetize it. Sony gets a bird in the hand and the airing partner gets the 2 in the bush, if they can catch them.
I saw a comment somewhere that they should do Black and White but also have certain " important/standout" things show in color like lipstick, lit cigarettes, the electric hands. Think the red coated girl from schindlers list type coloring. I think it would be interesting. Definitely watching it in BW first
Wow they had faith in just keeping the black and white, that was the trailer I watched. And I didn’t even want nor anticipate a color vision versions. But oh well!
There’s no question about it.
Black and white all the way.
It looks incredible.
Definitely watch it in black and white. Hope they watching the show in it.
I'll watch the black and white for the artistic value. But I'll probably stick to True Hue on a rewatch, just as I'll probably only watch Werewolf by Night In Color from now on.
They clearly shot it all with B&W in mind as the intended medium. The lighting doesn't work as well in full colour.

It really does look BETTER in black and white!
Agreed.
THIS is the role Nic Cage was born to play! And it’s also great for him, considering the fact that he is a massive comic book nerd himself. He even named one of his sons Kal-El after Superman.
And to avoid accusations of nepotism he changed his last name to cage, as he is a fan of Luke cage
@Shumngus This is how I found out he's the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola
@e@ericlayton8888 Yea I was surprised learning that too like what😂
4:50 How is this possible that no one catch that, Ben is coming in May 😅😅😅
Wrong ben its Ben Reilly whos the name of peters clone scarlet spider
I know man, After realizing he was a clone, Scarlett Spider created this identity by combining Uncle Ben's first name with Aunt May's maiden name, Reilly. So, He adopted this alias to distance himself from Peter Parker while living in exile.
I have watched Ultimate Spider-Man iny childhood, where Aunt May gives this name to him
So I ain't wrong, It's just a funny coincidence😅@grassyhill5830
IT LOOKS SO PERFECT
It’s so cool that they’re releasing both noir and color!
No it isn't. Should have done either one or the other.
@flaggerify nothing wrong with giving people options
@flaggerify Getting mad at nothing
@Romapolitan Voicing an opinion ≠ getting mad.
@Greenhawk4 It suggests artistic insecurity. What's next? Alternate endings for movies to give people options?
I saw where Nick talked about this and said his performance was seventy percent Bogart and thirty percent bugs bunny. Sounds good to me.
Rick’s reaction to him saying plastered is just what I came here for
Dropped the ball having them react in color first
I can’t believe how good this looks. Black and white viewing is a MUST
Nicolas Cage walks the line between meme and legend, with every appearence you can't do nothing but smile, you can feel how much fun he had while on screen
This made me so happy it looks incredible
Putting the guys in Black and White too is so funny
I am so happy! But also sad because the Voice Actor who voiced both Noir Spider-Man and Nic Cage in my country passed away just a few days ago
He was also the Voice of Jango Fett, Boba Fett and the Clone Troopers
This is why we needed a Spider-Gwen spinoff
Black & White is the intended experience. They're probably releasing the colour version too because they're scared that B&W will put people off.
I heard that Cage (maybe he's a producer? I admit I don't know) was behind this. It was always intended to be both. Its not normal color. Its hyper-saturated color, like Technicolor, or comic book art when its well printed.

@Wiley_Coyote hyper saturated color is how you shoot when intending to convert to black & white
@ethanp1348people who don't like to watch black & white shows or films. Aka children (derogatory).
1:47 ELECTRO'S HERE!!??
I was a waiter in Vegas, where he lives, and he would come in once every few weeks when noone else was there and i would take care of him. Super nice, always tipped well. I want a Spider-Man 2099 movie either animated or live action
B&W all the way
Nicholas Freakin Cage OK! I'm a cat. I'm a sexy cat."

@warhawk_ytAlso since marvel is using Peter Parker at the moment they aren’t gonna let anybody else use him lol
Love whenever Rick is in a reaction 😄
Really clear and helpful, this made the topic easier to understand in just a few minutes
Definitely looks like it was meant to be watched in black and white, it looks like the cinematography of the 40s and 50s noirs! You guys gotta watch in black and white!!!!

I like that we're getting both versions
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
I'm definitely gonna go for both versions : 1st B&W ,later Hue-Colored.
*”I beat up some guys in a bar, then I got PLAS-TEEEERED.”* Literally, no one else could deliver such a simple line in such an extremely entertaining way other than Nic Cage!
BLESSED BE THE CAGE
looks realy good, i cant wait to see this spider-noir show, i will watch in black and white for sure
Se viene el mejor Spider Man desde Tobey Maguire!. Siiii!!!. Saludos desde Argentina!
So nice ... you had to see it twice!! 😅😅
As someone said on Twitter, "If it's good, we all win. If it's bad, the memes win", which is a good way of looking at it.
I can’t wait to see Spider noir
I love the fact you reacted to the black and white trailer in black and white 🤣🤣🤣
I'm definitely going black and white. I love Spider-Man Noir a ton from the comics. Spider noir ! Yessss I love how this trailer feels so nick cage coded 😂
Andy Samberg
Leeets goo from italia🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Nic cage now has his role as spider noir in real life awesome!
Ever since into the spider verse I’ve been saying we should get a spin-off of Spider-Man noir
They actually started discussing the possibility of a Noir series back after Into the Spider-Verse.
a 10/10 trailer DANM❤🔥
I hope he brought his Rubik's Cube.
Wait I’ve never seen Aaron without his glasses before, bro lwky looks terrifying. 🙏😭
How did they not know about this? It's been known for awhile and was announced at least 2-3 years ago.
Looking good! A blend of The Shadow & Darkman 👍
Nicolaus Cage!!! YEESSSSSS!!!
After this they should do a Spider-Ham series.
I thought yall knew about this already
Somehow watch both colour and b&w at the same time😂
I'm gonna watch it in black and white then colored lol
Comes out on my brother's birthday. Wish it was 2 weeks earlier for my birthday 😂
Excited to watch it will watch it in B&W
Looks sooooo much better in black & white
Many are speculating in the overhead shot of the alley, it's Mr. Negative following someone. He's the perfect character for B&W.
This looks AWESOME!! Can't wait!! Definatly gonna watch it in B&W!
The black and white version looks so good! You can see they produced it specifically to be shown without colour. The contrast gives so much focus and style to it.
We have neil breen series just like that we need a string of cage movies
Will be watching it twice.. first in black and white🔥
I low-key kinda excited with this. It looks amazing.
well as someone who has collected every single Spider-noir comic book I can't express how happy I am that it looks so good. I am definitely gonna watch you guys react to it first when it comes out.
Van Helsing reaction!
black and white in theatre! plssss
It feels so much like Darkman
Please react to Dhurandhar trailer Just once ❤️❤️❤️
I think I'll watch it both ways, because I can't decide which is better right now.
So Nic Cage has now been Superman, Spiderman, Ghost Rider and Big Daddy in Kickass. Guy just gets all the fun with Superheroes
it looks so much cooler in black and white
All i can say is YYEESSSSS! 🎉❤
meant to be watched in black and white
Please react to Person of Interest
i really hope yall react in B&W. (you could do a patreon exclusive for the color version maybe?
put out 2 reactions. one in color and the other in B&W
I was drawn in by Nicolas Cage to see the trailer but became very interested when I realized that this is the first time we will see Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) in a live production.
LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!!!
So excited for the black & white viewing for Spider Noir. Side note though, can we please have a high & dry for Van Helsing one day 🙏🏻! It would be so much fun
6:55 PLEASE REACT TO VAN HELSING😭
Imagine if this is actually the Spiderman Noir in Spiderverse😂
Cage played Ben in National treasure and his friend was Riley. 😂
thing is when you think B&W film, your colors that will be turned to B&W need to be special, it's not like you film something without a color thinking palette that, when turned into B&W, will create a certain style in B&W. Van helsing mentioned Les goooo
It is meant to be watched in B&W. Proper Sin City Vibes
I get the B&W thing, but I just enjoy seeing the color of everything.
Nick Cage was was exceptional in 'Art of War' and 'Face off' was fun too.
I would love to see the original Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider, maybe played by Jack Quaid
It is law that Blind Wave reacts to Nick Cage stuff eventually.
It would’ve been neat if they did color while he’s Ben and black and white while he’s Spider-Noir
🕷️🕸️😍
I saw a comment somewhere that they should do Black and White but also have certain " important/standout" things show in color like lipstick, lit cigarettes, the electric hands. Rick!
Wow they had faith in just keeping the black and white, that was the trailer I watched. And I didn’t even want nor anticipate a color vision versions. But oh well!
Getting Darkman vibes
