They’ll give him the title shot again anyway, even though he hasn’t earned it. There’s a storyline there, it’s the fight DDP wants and everything.
I give DDP a very good chance of winning, the wrestling of course is a big factor he will definitely try to keep Izzy down. I also see Izzy being too rangy and technical, chewing up his legs and not letting him cut the cage too often, or overextend and let DDP in on easy takedowns. It’ll be a good fight regardless, DDP won’t let this be a 2 leg kicks per round fight, he’s gonna dictate pace. I’d rather see this than number 9 ranked Chimaev who’s beaten a total amount of zilch in the MW rankings.
Adesanya in no way deserves another immediate title rematch. How can you be 1-2 last 3 and 4-3 last 7, coming off of a completely other different immediate rematch title fight and get schooled for 4 of 5 rounds and end up with another title shot? These guys will do anything for Izzy not to fight Khamzat but you can always have the Dricus fight after that Win or lose. If he can beat Khamzat or Dricus that works and will push him in but this guys been given more Dana White privilege than Dana White😮

Couple things: First of all I am not a fan of the way the rankings work currently. I think it would be healthy for the sport if rankings were taken more seriously and losing champions were put at the back of the queue. But we are in the entertainment industry in a sport that has athletes competing 3 to 4 times a year at most, so keeping talent at the top is important to the business model.
That being said, Israel Adesanya is the most accomplished middleweight since Anderson Silva. That is a fact. Other than the current champion, he has fought everyone in the top 6 of the middleweight division (and some of them twice). So with the way rankings currently work, it would make sense to have Izzy fight either DDP or rematch Strickland. And since DDP is (understandably) asking for the Adesanya fight, that fight is not nonsensical to make. And at the same time it would make sense to match Strickland (who did not hold on for the belt for 1 fight) up with rank 9 Khamzat.
Also. it is not fair to call Khamzat a fraud at this point. While he has not proven himself at middleweight yet, he has clearly proven that he can hang (and more) with top welterweights.
