I make a mimosa cupcake that absolutely needs to come to room temperature before eating. All of the reduction is absorbed by the sponge and it becomes hard when chilled.
Ok hear me out! If you get a Publix specialty cake instead of the ones In the cold storage it’s much better. Publix has a Chantilly one that’s pretty decent. And Kroger is not good at cakes.
I agree! My wedding cake came from Publix and it was incredible! The cakes that are available ready to buy may not be as good, but my made to order cake was amazing. I've never regretted it
I love Publix bakery. Their cakes are wonderful when you serve it non-frozen. I especially love their butter cream frosting. So good. I usually don't get one from the cold storage. I get it from the table.
Chantilly frosting from Publix is 😘chef’s kiss. Their cake with fruit and Chantilly is much better than Whole Foods and much larger for the same price!
I’ve had them ordered fresh more than once and the vanilla cake just isn’t good. Almost inedible. Maybe I’m a little picky but I come from a family of good bakers. Their specialty cakes and other bakery items are top notch.
Y’all should try Swiss Meringue Buttercream! It’s so good and tastes like vanilla ice cream and isn’t as heavy as American Buttercream. Once you’ve had it, you’ll never want to go back to grocery store icing. I’m a home cottage baker and have never had any complaints about it. Keep being y’all! Hugs from SC!
I challenge you, to order a freshly made Walmart cake and using their whipped topping instead of frosting. I pretty much guarantee the score would go up… as a Sicilian it’s one of the only few places where our family here buys their cakes for special occasions, but having one made with the whipped cream topping instead of sugar frosting is an entirely different cake experience
I had a Strawberry Cream Cloud Cake from Trader Joe’s recently and it was so light and the icing was like whipped cream. And it was only $6.00! If you ever get to try an Ermine icing? It the best icing. It’s a cooked icing and usually goes on a red velvet cake! Happy belated birthday! 🎂🎂
Publix usually also sells cake slices (cheaper and probably better for a tasting and not frozen, ready to eat) Publix aside from their classic buttercream is also known for their "whipped topping" (less sweet and fluffier frosting.) Publix also has their own Chantilly cake (you have to go to the cake display, where they showcase the fancier cakes - not the run of the mil American Birthday cakes in the freezers). And yes, for a fair rating all cakes should be fully room temp and the same type of cake. A Chantilly cake can't really be compared to an ordinary vanilla, buttercream cake (they aren't even in the same texture or flavor profile). You want the best of what Publix has? Order your cake! Place an order and pick it up, Publix has the best velvet soft crumb texture to their cakes. Sams Club has good cakes (they are just HUGE) or used too, haven't had one in years. Our go to is Publix or homemade by me.
My sister is a bakery and pastry chef. She works at Walmart in the bakery and does specialty orders. They are actually made fresh and decorated in house.
I prefer to buy cakes from local bakeries that are small business. It can cost less than whole foods or as much for bigger and tastes so much better. The bonus is your helping the small business owner who has a harder time making it than the chains.
Chinese style sponge cake. Often found in Chinatowns around the US, but there are some chain bakeries as well as Asian supermarkets that might have a bakery section. They're not super sweet and often have some sort of fruit filling inside the cream.
13:07 Walmart cakes are actually really good for the price. I'm not a cake person, but I'm an educator, so I've had my share of birthday cupcakes and baby shower cakes 😂. Costco is best for a sheet cake. Walmart or Wegmans for a good small cake or cupcakes. Cold Stone for ice cream cake.
My birthday was August 3rd and I had seen some videos about how good the Chantilly cake at Publix was so I asked my family to get me that cake. They did and it looked exactly like the Whole Foods Chantilly cake you all tried and I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it especially since it was a store bought cake. The cake itself was moist and it had good flavor and good texture but that frosting is what made it it's soo good! I'm someone that doesn't like too much frosting or overly sweet frosting but with that cake it was the perfect blend of tart and sweetness. My cake didn't seem like it had been frozen but I have also read that most if not all their cakes are frozen buy if it tastes as good as it did I don't care at all. 😅
I wouldn't be surprised if the cake rounds themselves come in frozen, however, all their specialty cakes are decorated in house, many with delicious fillings and frostings.
You should have purchased a fresh cake from Publix. Not the same as a cake from the freezer thawed. Also, you should compare a Publix Chantilly to Whole Foods Chantilly.
Game changer for me on cake & cookie frosting & decorating is a white chocolate butter cream recipe i found for making Easter cookies back in 2010 for my kids. And the pampered chef piping kits & tools used with it. Also making boxed cake mixes even better by added ingredients, if not making from scratch cakes. I dont buy store bought cakes often, but will buy them from local home or non commercial bakers who cater or have a small home or store businesses. My neighbor in my youth did that & the smell of her cakes wafting in our driveway.... She had kids close to my age so I'd go over to play with them. But i would wander off into their moms kitchen and watch in awe while offer to help and taste & ask her her techniques etc. She made my birthday cakes every year as a gift & they were phenomenal taste & amazingly decorated. I'd request fashion, perfume & designer logos or famous art decorations in my teen years & she pulled them off. So home bakers over commercial bakers like kroger etc is the way to go if not homemade. Unless dont have time for ordering or making a cake in advance. I surprised my youngest son with a Buddy Vlastro Cake Boss cake one year for his bday. (Because we watched the series together that year). And it was phenomenal.
I never do store bought. My favorite is carrot cake. I do the box cake and add about 3/4 cup of extra carrots, walnuts, and raisins and a little extra oil. This makes for a denser cake. The frosting has to be home made with cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a few table spoons of lemon juice (I like this better than vanilla). Put some walnuts on top (I love walnuts). I hate sprinkles. Why would anybody ruin a cake (or doughnut) with sprinkles. It is wax, Crisco, and sugar and they taste like they are 20 years old found in the back of grandma's cupboard. Just nasty.
My grandmother & mother used to make what was called a “sunshine cake” with fresh whipped cream frosting and sprinkled with colored dots for our birthdays. It was the most delicious cake in the world 😋
Great video ❤ Never had a Whole Foods cake but looks delicious Love you all and the reactions to the different cakes Take care and d see you in the next video ❤❤❤❤ Happy Birthday Alessio 🎉🥳🎊🎂❤
Buon compleanno Alessio. Spero e prego che abbiate entrambi una meravigliosa festa e che la vostra famiglia abbia pace. hai avuto modo di provare una torta di compleanno di Suzie Cake?
@stayathomemommy100 Honestly depends on which flavor you get. Their red velvet cake? Highly questionable, they ruin the texture by putting hard chocolate chips in the batter. The white chocolate raspberry? Absolutely scrumptious, a study in cake perfection.
Just a quick FYI: If you go to the site for “nothing Bundt cakes” and scroll to the very bottom, there’s a link for “Prop 65 Warning” which takes you to a warning that reads: “Consuming this cake product can expose you to acrylamide, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.” I noticed it last week when I was looking to purchase one for my daughter’s birthday.
I'm commenting before viewing. I just want to say I have included you both in my weekly prayers. While I've been laying here recovering from medical conditions I went through myself & watched Jessie's journey too. It reminded me of me in my younger days. I too had severe endo, 3 laperscopys then a full hysterectomy after a orange sized fibroid ovarian tumor ruptured on me while at work back in 2009. And I had a lump on my breast as well. Luckily I had 3 children but after the 2nd was told if i wanted a 3rd do it now as my endo was severe. Well 7 years later my miracle surprise child was conceived & born. But Jessie's journey has been so hard too. I feel your pain physical emotional relatability. Your miscarriage story too... mine was different as I had an ectopic pregnancy no way for it to survive & I could've died too when the sack ruptured as it was on my tube vs uterus so they did a medical abortion aka DNC vs natural method you had to endure but i had the same brown bleeding after. My deepest prayers are that your body is in full ripeness to sustain the healthy embryos implant (more than once) that leads to a full pregnancies without complications, deliveries without complications, healthy baby(s), & easy recovery(s) after for Jessie. And after having your first baby the endo is in check therapeutically after childbirth without future complications. After my first 2 children were born i had no endo issues for 6 years & no painful cycles in that time either. You two deserve to be loving nurturing devoted parents as you are those attributes to each other. I'm praying for your journey to parenthood & Jessie's journey for no more pain or suffering of reproductive organ issues. Your story has touched my heart. I came to your channel for the amazing Italian food but found kindred spirits too. God bless you both.
Perfect. The cake with NO Flavor was so entertaining, but I don't want to try a -1 cake! LOLI have never seen a "Sprouts" store & now I don't want to...~
Kroger's cakes taste like you made it with a box mix and frosted it with the frosting on the shelf in the plastic container. They changed from the brand they used to have and they are not as good. Just like the fried chicken is not as good as before in our Kroger's in Mississippi. Kroger used to be my favorite store but not anymore. I don't have a favorite.
I had a cottage bakery in Colorado before retiring to the Appalachians. Colorado pallet is more refined with frosting/dessert of whipped cream, mascarpone, cream cheese, etc. I still take orders from word of mouth. I’ve had to switch up my options to compete with homemade cakes that are delicious but also appeal to the region. I also make European style breads made from ancient wheat. Slowly but surely I’m breaking the barrier with different but delicious bakery items.
Publix Chantilly cake is my birthday cake of choice. They put more fruit on top than the one you got from Whole Foods. If you get the sheet cake, they'll even write Happy Birthday on it for you. That you do have to pre-order, and it is a rather steep price (almost $50 for the 1/4 sheet cake size). However, it would be worth it to me. I've never gotten a cake that was frozen at Publix.
Publix cakes are my favorites! Both my daughters’ wedding cakes were from Publix and they were fantastic. One was white cake with fresh strawberries and the other was a carrot cake.
Hi guys! Happy Birthday Alessio! In defense of Kroger, you bought the worst cake they have. If you had bought their $27 vanilla/vanilla cake you would have experienced something way different! For my birthday my husband bought their $27.99 vanilla/vanilla buttercream 4 layer cake and it was the most amazing store bought cake I have ever had! No artificial icing taste and the cake was super moist! If you had compared that to the wholefoods $27 cake it would have won!
That tiny cake is actually at Walmart and Kroger, it's only $5 at Walmart. I'm not a fan of the vanilla, but the chocolate one is actually delicious and fudgey. I'll get it as a small dessert, one small serving a person and leftovers don't get wasted.
Alessio's😂multiple fork stabbings of😂 each cake😂🤣🤣🤣. HAPPY BDAY🎂!! (Actually, Costco has fabulous cakes, but I understand why they were not included here, probably due to the membership requirement.)
Guys, coming from a former Kroger employee in the bakery department… that cake is one of the ones they send already boxed and frozen. The ones in the cake case are a safer bet!
Happy Birthday Allessio thank you both for making me 😂laugh I love your energy 🎉and the Teo of your are a blessing to my life because I smile every time
We have a southern California grocery store Stater Brothers. They have the best cakes the best and then they do seasonal cakes like I had a got a watermelon cake for Fourth of July and Cinco de Mayo. I got a taco and the tomatoes were little pieces of licorice and the lettuce was shaved green coconut. They are on the joblike nobody thinks let’s go to a bakery. We think Stater Brothers and if it’s a big party it’s Costco just for the cheap convenience and they’re not bad.😊
@habslover2306 and when you know somebody that works there friends and family discount 10% off at Allstate Brothers items the only thing it excludes is the sushi and during the holidays you get 20% off isn’t that awesome thank God I know a couple people that work there
You know there’s an expression that I live by. You get what you pay for Whole Foods has a much better cake than any other grocery store. It’s the quality of the ingredients that go in it.
If you want traditional Italian cake go to Carlos. They have locations everywhere now. The family who runs it is originally from Altamura from the southern part of Italy. It’s near Bari. The person who runs the show is Bartolo Valastro and yes he speaks Italian though not completely fluently as it’s been a few years since he last was in Italy.
My favorite cake would have to be the tres leches or three milk cake I think you both should try the infamous tres leches cake it is so good 🌻♥️🌻but when made right
You guys are so funny. I love your videos, but I begged it for you could never have too much frosting, especially my own lol Walmart’s carrot cake is really pretty good
Ciao ragazzi! Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel! We’re working on next week’s video. New England… you’re up next! 😈
If u order cake Publix. It’s wonderful
New England?!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi from New England!
People seen to like Publex
Try the whole foods gluten-free cakes. Sometimes you have to request them. They have them in the back.
They are so good.
As a cake decorator, I would always recommend eating buttercream frosted cakes at room temperature.
I make a mimosa cupcake that absolutely needs to come to room temperature before eating. All of the reduction is absorbed by the sponge and it becomes hard when chilled.
I would never have thought I could spend 20 minutes watching 2 people do a taste test and enjoy it so much every time but I do!!
😂 I breezed thru to the tasting and scoring😂
@nrs3772nooo the journey to the end is the fun part!
Publix cakes you need to get made to order in order to get that better flavor and fluffyness
0:49 the cake from Whole Foods is one of my favorites with the berries
Ok hear me out! If you get a Publix specialty cake instead of the ones In the cold storage it’s much better. Publix has a Chantilly one that’s pretty decent. And Kroger is not good at cakes.
I love the Publix Chocolate Ganache
Yes, this! The publix Chantilly cream cake is very good, and their cannoli cake is even better! Both made fresh to order, not shipped in frozen.
@christinemazur7795Publix also has pretty great carrot cake!
I agree! My wedding cake came from Publix and it was incredible! The cakes that are available ready to buy may not be as good, but my made to order cake was amazing. I've never regretted it
Publix deserves and needs to be redeemed! Try the cakes from the bakery counter, not the freezer! Lol😂
The Chantilly cake from Publix is out of this world. It’s my favorite.
Out if this world for the us or in general 😂
I bought one for my wife, and she won't buy another.
@marciestoddard730 no
The Publix cake would have been sooo much better thawed out. It’s so soft and the buttercream is super fluffy too.
They should have given the cake a chance, not eating it frozen.
Kind of an apple and orange comparison, Publix does a chantilly cake so I feel the comparison wasn’t fair.
I agree I love Publix chantilly and peach sensation cake ( vanilla and cake ) with fruits between and on top. They’re the best on cake
Publix cakes are usually great, IF you order one fresh! Not from the refrigerated case.
I’ve had them ordered fresh more than once and the vanilla cake just isn’t good. Almost inedible. Maybe I’m a little picky but I come from a family of good bakers. Their specialty cakes and other bakery items are top notch.

Same
I think they wanted tk specifically review grocery store cakes. Let's face it... you know the husband is going to an Italian bakery for a cake.
Chinese style sponge cake. Often found in Chinatowns around the US, but there are some chain bakeries as well as Asian supermarkets that might have a bakery section. They're not super sweet and often have some sort of fruit filling inside the cream.
I actually love frozen cake 🫣 my favorite is a Caroline’s cakes smith island,(gf version unfortunately. )

Hey, do a chocolate cake throw down. Aldi has a little chocolate cake that's not bad. Publix might be able to redeem itself?
Best birthday cake I've had was for my 12th birthday; instead of frosting it had whipped cream over a vanilla cake-all
homemade by my grandmother.
Homemade, especially made by a grandma, is the way to go! 🎉
My grandmother & mother used to make what was called a “sunshine cake” with fresh whipped cream frosting and sprinkled with colored dots for our birthdays. It was the most delicious cake in the world 😋
Thats so sweet you remember that and her
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALESSIO!!!
🎉🎂🍧🎈🎁
Come onnnn ya must have Ellesio try a homemade tres leche cake! It is what every Hispanic has for their birthday and it is excellent!!
I’m Colombian and that’s the best cake ever
@julianavasquez2810I've been baking for 40 years and tried to make one. I don't know what I did, but it was like soup.😢
This showing up on my birthday is awesome!
Happy birthday Steve ❤🎉
Have a Happy birthday, Steve!
Happy birthday, Steve! It's my birthday, too!! 🎉🎉
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday
You two give me the giggles! Alessio and his balloon gavel 😂 and your faces when they were awful lmao
Great video ❤
Never had a Whole Foods cake but looks delicious
Love you all and the reactions to the different cakes
Take care and d see you in the next video ❤❤❤❤
Happy Birthday Alessio
🎉🥳🎊🎂❤
Now we need ice cream cake taste test
Happy Birthday, Alessio. My mom's birthday was also this week. I see the resemblance.
Soooo funny story, most of those are made at the same factory. My husband used to work there lol. The ingredients are really REALLY bad 😅😂
Buon compleanno Alessio. Spero e prego che abbiate entrambi una meravigliosa festa e che la vostra famiglia abbia pace. hai avuto modo di provare una torta di compleanno di Suzie Cake?
Happy belated birthday Alessio!!! 🎉🎂
I wonder if the Sprouts cake was a baby "smash" cake??
You have to try Costco and Nothing Bundt Cakes!!!!!
My wife and I _LOVE_ NB Cakes! The white chocolate raspberry is sublime. 😋
Nothing bundt cakes are nasty
@stayathomemommy100 Honestly depends on which flavor you get. Their red velvet cake? Highly questionable, they ruin the texture by putting hard chocolate chips in the batter. The white chocolate raspberry? Absolutely scrumptious, a study in cake perfection.
Just a quick FYI: If you go to the site for “nothing Bundt cakes” and scroll to the very bottom, there’s a link for “Prop 65 Warning” which takes you to a warning that reads: “Consuming this cake product can expose you to acrylamide, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
I noticed it last week when I was looking to purchase one for my daughter’s birthday.
I love buttercream frosting. I know it’s not the most popular anymore but I love it.
I LOVE Berry Chantilly Cake!! I had that for my last 2 birthdays!! Very light & delicious!! 🩵💜🩷
I like the berry Chantilly cake. We use it as a birthday cake for someone who doesn’t express a preference for another flavor.
Having worked in several grocery store bakeries, Everything cones in frozen!! Cakes, icing, cookies, pies... Everything!!
Facts!
Buon Compleanno Alessio… dopo tutte ste torte, un bel grappino è quello che ci vuole.
I always made my kids' birthday cakes, they were not fancy...... but they tasted better!
I loved Allesio banging his balloon around, I was dying laughing!!!😂He needs to have a balloon smacker for all taste tests🤗
You too are so amusing. Thank you. God bless

Alessio should make a real Italian birthday cake and show everyone how they make it. They put all kinds of fancy fruits and stuff in it.
I had my wedding cake from Publix and it was amazing! I also order all my birthday cakes from there. So custom is the way to go!
Yay!!!! Happy Birthday!!!
You guys should have tried the Publix chantilly cake, not the premade vanilla cake.
Perfect. The cake with NO Flavor was so entertaining, but I don't want to try a -1 cake! LOLI have never seen a "Sprouts" store & now I don't want to...~
Shoprite in New Jersey takes the cake, literally. My family always buys one for parties and they’re so damn good!
The Whole Foods coconut cake is AMAZING. It will blow your mind.
My favorite cake from Publix is a white cake with fresh strawberries in the middle & whip cream frosting 😋
You two are adorabile! 😊😊
Buon compleanno🎉🎉🎉. P.S. the very french chantilly creme is obviously Alessio's favourite 😂
Grazie mille
I had a cottage bakery in Colorado before retiring to the Appalachians. Whole Foods has beautiful baked goods so I'm not surprised it was good; Alessio knows his icing!
Should have got the Chantilly cake from Publix it’s my favorite.
What about ice cream cakes? Carvel! Friendly's! Cold Stone!😊❤
You gotta throw DQ in there if you're doing ice cream cakes.
I find Carvel cakes to be absolutely tasteless
I love Carvel cakes.
@CarlGorn
This!
Happy birthday, Alesso!! 🎉🎂🎊
Grazie
My daughter had her wedding cake with less frosting around the cake sides. It is called the naked cake 🍰
If you had compared that to the wholefoods $27 cake it would have won!
such an effervescent Leo, Alessio is 😄
I had a feeling that would be a Leo.
me too!
Ice cream cakes are my favorite!
Try Krogers private selection vanilla bean cake with buttercream icing. It’s amazing. The only problem is not every Kroger carries them.
Publix cakes in Florida are not frozen. They are very moist and flavorful.
That tiny cake is actually at Walmart and Kroger, it's only $5 at Walmart. I'm not a fan of the vanilla, but the chocolate one is actually delicious and fudgey. I'll get it as a small dessert, one small serving a person and leftovers don't get wasted.
I swear that is the most delicious little cake.
Alessio's😂multiple fork stabbings of😂 each cake😂🤣🤣🤣. HAPPY BDAY🎂!!
(Actually, Costco has fabulous cakes, but I understand why they were not included here, probably due to the membership requirement.)
That cake from Sprouts looks like a SMASH CAKE that you buy for babies first birthday.
Wow! The past owner is such a nice man! Thank you for this video!
Est ce que le sucre nest pas interdit pour vous et pour lendo et le transfert ca augmente l'inflammation
Guys, coming from a former Kroger employee in the bakery department… that cake is one of the ones they send already boxed and frozen. The ones in the cake case are a safer bet!

Agree. Stater Bros. has a great bakery. Cookies and pies are also great.
@habslover2306 and when you know somebody that works there friends and family discount 10% off at Allstate Brothers items the only thing it excludes is the sushi and during the holidays you get 20% off isn’t that awesome thank God I know a couple people that work there
Tanti auguri Alessio! Happy Birthday! Siamo LEONI 🦁:) - anche io..
I'm looking forward to this being a pleasant video, because who doesn't like birthday cakes.
We have a great supermarket here in New Jersey called Shop Rite and they have a super bakery
Happy Birthday to Alessio!!! 🎉🥳🙌
And thank you for the Whole Foods cake recommendation, that is good to know!
NOTHING CAN EVER BEAT THE “OOEY GOOEY BUTTER 🧈 CAKE” 🎂 HOMEMADE ❤❤❤
Thank you for that amazing tour through France. ❤
The Whole Foods chantilly cake is the best store bought cake, for sure!
We always get the whipped icing from Kroger... it's not as sweet.
Fresh (not frozen!) Publix cake is like a cloud! Sweet and spongey.
The Whole Foods cake is what I was thinking of when I saw this love that cake.
I hate to say it but, the best birthday cake I've had recently came from Walmart. It had the whipped frosting and the cake was incredibly moist.
Tanti Auguri Alessio!! May your days be filled with good news, and Alessio Approved food and wine
You know there’s an expression that I live by. You get what you pay for Whole Foods has a much better cake than any other grocery store. It’s the quality of the ingredients that go in it.
I’d like to see him try authentic tacos 😂
You have to try a DQ ice cream cake! LOL
You always request a cake and have them make it- never but the ones already made lol
I’m pretty sure that Alessio likes the Red velvet cake, because he likes the one from Whole Foods
Red velvet cake is very sugary I don't think Alessio would like that.
So, Alessio is a Leo. ♌️ 🦁 Checks out. 😂😂 Happy Happy Birthday Alessio! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
My favorite cake would have to be the tres leches or three milk cake I think you both should try the infamous tres leches cake it is so good 🌻♥️🌻but when made right
Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your taste testing videos. Steph from Australia.
You guys are so funny. I love your videos, but I begged it for you could never have too much frosting, especially my own lol
Walmart’s carrot cake is really pretty good
