The song is essentially in two parts. We have the two chords being strummed/picked and then the picking part down in the open position. Both demonstrate a great approach to Drop D tuning (where the low E string is tuned down a whole step to D).

I’m having trouble with the eight notes strumming on the intro and verse. Any tips on how to pick out the individual strings?

Maybe focus a little time on picking the strings with the up strums and then try to add it back into the chord strumming. Have a good look at how I'm doing it It's kind of hard to give any more advice than that, sorry!
