  • This week we present our review of a lithium power station and solar panels from Big Blue.
    Must say I like them. The power station has similar performance and price to others I have seen. But, what I think really shines is their portable solar panels. They seem real good and are cheaper then what I've seen offered before.

    I have a 73 VW bus with 200 watts of portable solar. I would never permanently mount them to the bus. I have a 20 foot cable and then another 20 foot extension if needed which allows me to keep the runs short. 2 big bonuses with this setup is that you can follow the sun by moving them and you can park in the shade.

    I have the jackery solar generator. I like it. I wish I had done more research on it because the solar panel won't plug into anything else and you can't use any other panel for the generator.

    Per my marina manager, I just got our DC/AC delivered to my boat in Rio Dulce. I'll be flying down in December to look at the installation. If this one goes well we'll plan on getting a second, possibly a 3rd for all the cabins. Thanks!! I do have a BBMS question I just emailed you. Thanks for the great content.

    Those small, foldable solar panels seem like they'd be great gear to have in a go bag or life raft to allow you to keep your phone/gps, lights, and/or other electronic-based safety gear working.

    Thank you for making another calm relaxing video. I have a question : On a scale of one to ten, How would not having a phone impact your life ?
    I was inspired to pose this question after seeing your video which showed a person hiking with a solar panel on their pack charging a mobile phone.
    My thought on the matter is that hiking in wilderness is about leaving modern life behind and doing without. I'm not against technology although I do not have a mobile phone. It wouldn't work here anyway. I just wonder why people feel compelled to always be attached via umbilical to the outside world. Please don't misunderstand me, I am all for having 2 VHF's, a HF and Inmarsat C on board any vessel - I hold a GMDSS GOC. There's a wide chasm between safety communications and being able to check your facebook whilst staring at a polar bear (and sending picture of said polar bear to your Instagram followers).
    For clarity, to iterate and to bring it back to the subject of this video - How important is it to always be able to charge one's phone ?
    I wish you both safe travels and good health.

    Aye m8s! What do you reckon about the durability/longevity of these canvas panels?

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  Год назад +1

      Better then the "flexible" panels I put on the roof of the camper. They could be stronger but then they would weigh more. I think they are about right.
      I don't yet know if the facing will get milky as I've seen with flexible panels but since these aren't in the sun every day I expect them to do fine.

    Hello, I was looking at bigblue chargers and I see that some have different panels than in your 36W. They don't have those thick silver stripes and they're made of like 2 modules for one panel with cut corners. Are the strip panels in your charger newer and more efficient than the other ones? I will be grateful for your help. Regards

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  Год назад +1

      I bet what you are seeing is their new design. I know nothing about these. But, their battery station got better. I'd assume the current panel offering works fine.
      And it's 36w of course

      Li isn't great at starting loads. The lead part of the system is for that kind of thing.
      I've included a feature for just this kind of thing where if too much is drawn from the li bank it disconnects it until the engine starts up and starts charging.

    I've been using cheap flexible solar panels that everyone recommended against. They've been working great for a year and a half now and even survived the lesser half of hurricane Ian 80+mph gusts. They are still working perfectly. If we waterproof some of the components it could be combined into a dragon wing. I hope you would consider developing such a product. Thanks again for all your research and great work. ⛵🏔️

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  Год назад +1

      I've used flexibles before and after a couple of years the front plastic got milkey. Still worked but I wondered how long until I lost performance. Sold them.
      I'm hoping these have a better "lens" layer.
      I don't see us making awnings. The BankManager is more work then I ever imagined and I contracted out the air conditioner because I didn't want the work.
      If you make one please publish how it worked for you or just send us pictures and such.
