    Seen so many of these(literally 100) using 5 or 6 cans of spray glue and always thought it was a bad idea but the answer is string wow mind blown !!! cheap effective and doesn't poison you or the atmosphere Good Job

    Hi! I am going to be doing very similar with our van, I’m curious - with the wooden blocks - how did you attach those to the van floor? Just glue?
    I’ll likely be using preexisting bolt holes for the main attachment to the frame and then using small blocks to screw into to ensure no warping of the wood.
    Thanks for all the helpful info!

    I've been advocating for both wool and cork and wondering why it's not used more often. So thanks for this instructional video. I have old fur coats, horse hides, and lambs wool garments, goose down bags which you'll always smell when you stick your nose in it. The smell will not dissipate 100%. Just learn to enjoy it and keep it dry.

      Yeah we are, can’t comment on how it compares to other types of insulation but it definitely makes a big difference compared to not having any insulation

    Nicely done folk's
    Couple of points, firstly blocking up any holes in your floor is a bad idea as if you get a burst pipe or spill you have no place to go, secondly wood block's have an R factor of 1, better to use xps hi density and load bearing, then ply over the top,that way when glued down you won't get any thermal bridging 😊

    Hi guys, fantastic video, thanks :) I'm currently in the process of converting a low roof vw van with sheep's wool insulation for the ceiling & walls & had considered cork for a thin layer of insulation under the floor. I have heard it can be quite heavy though which is a concern as I need to keep the van under 3500kg. Can I ask how you have found the cork insulation so far & what mm thickness you used? Thanks a million, Rosa

    • @adaptivetravel
      @adaptivetravel  3 года назад +2

      In our experience, the cork was very lightweight! We used 6mm cork which we bought in 3 rolls from B&Q. Can't really comment on the insulation just yet, but it was very easy to work with. Hope that helps! 😀

    Hi guys! Hera Anto, from Argentina. First of all, thanks for your videos. I was wondering how wool and cork insulation had worked for you? As we are planning to used the same sustainable material and we have a similar van (t4)

    • @adaptivetravel
      @adaptivetravel  Год назад

      Hi! Great that you want to use sustainable materials. We really like the wool insulation, we think it makes a big difference for both keeping the van cool when it’s hot and helping it stay warmer in cold weather. We also haven’t had any problems with moisture behind our walls with wool insulation but we’ve heard that can be a problem with other insulations so I guess it’s working out in that respect too. It was also super easy to work with when we installed it. We don’t think the cork is as good at insulating as the wool is, we’ve been in vans where there’s wool under the floor and it feels warmer underfoot compared to our van but when you have a van with a low roof there’s not really any better option than cork. Hope that helps and hope the van conversion goes well

    This is awesome. I’m in the beginning stages of building a tiny house that’s around 28ftx11ft which I know is different from this but still a significant downgrade in size for me. I’ll be interested to see how living in such a small space and traveling with the chair goes. Love your channel :)

    Bloody awesome guys! Really happy to be watching this series and seeing the van come together nicely. Love that you’re doing it sustainably too. Is the sheep’s wool expensive?

    • @adaptivetravel
      @adaptivetravel  4 года назад +3

      Thanks! We're really enjoying making this series too. Sheep's wool is definitely more expensive compared to other types like mineral wool etc but it wasn't that bad - at least not for a small space like a van, think it was about £30-40 more so for us it was a no brainer for all the benefits and less environmental impact

      Yeah, they took a while to get used to but now I find them quite easy to use! It's definitely nice to be able to drive, but it's difficult to put the wheelchair in the van by myself (since it's so high up).

    This is just what I needed! I was considering wool for the floor but cork, what a nice idea, no need for framing! Did you glue it to the van floor? And did you glue the top cork layer to the cork strip?

    • @adaptivetravel
      @adaptivetravel  3 года назад +1

      Not sure how it compares to wool in terms of limiting heat transfer but cork is super easy to use. We did glue the bottom strips down to the van floor but the top layer we didn't, it's just held down by the ply floor

    • @marineperceval7251

      @@adaptivetravel I see! So i assume you didn’t glue the plywood to the top sheet either, just screwed it to the small wood strips you placed? The simpler the better!

    You're using sound proof insulation, right? Sound proofing is also fire proofing. A paper cutter would have probably been much easier. Next time maybe. That custom flooring seems pretty cool! It's neat that exists! Clair, I love those socks! Where did you get them?

    • @adaptivetravel
      @adaptivetravel  4 года назад

      Yeah sheep's wool is non-flammable. What do you mean by a paper cutter? Those ones that you slide the blade along? We did try using a knife too but the scissors were way neater. It is great that the flooring and other pre-cut parts exist, it makes our lives so much easier! Not sure about the socks, which ones do you mean/what's the timestamp?
